An absolute oddity of a game, but it's fantastic! You know what it'll look and play like if you're a fan of Quake. The gunplay is precise and satisfying plus the enemies have good variation and keep you on your toes. I personally like the movement, it's brisk but grounded. If you're a huge Quake fan maybe you expected rocket jumps and lightning speed, but it's not that.

Extremely straightforward, no need for a detailed plot, says it right there on the store page. It's an 80's Soviet Union pastiche with a lot of specific cultural references, down to real world locations, figures and even food, like it's a profession of love to the developer's homeland. Except it's also smeared in brown and it's often very moody and dreary, even getting quite spooky and tense at times.

The levels are very well designed - I only got a bit lost once or twice and it always flowed great. They offer a good amount of variation too, you end up in fever dreams, crypts, Soviet apartment blocks, castles, underground metros, out on the open road on your bike, it was always fun to see what came next.

I love the humour so much in this game. There are so so many gags - being able to kiss posters of Soviet officials, enemies throwing up from radiation sickness, the first level in ep 3, inanimate objects like gym equipment and construction vehicles becoming enemies, turrets making a human grunt noise when killed? It's completely surreal and bizarre but genuinely made me smile and laugh many times even next to the creepy atmosphere.

The only thing I could say against this game - the weapon selection not being very inspired. It has melee, pistol(s), SMG, shotgun + super shotgun, grenades, rocket launcher... yea. The only exotic weapon is the lightning gun (that appears maybe 4 times in the whole game) and the ball lightning launcher I saw and used once. Maybe the crossbow. It's very serviceable and feels great to use, but it doesn't feel very memorable.

Worth it for full price ;)

they don't tell you that you need to make an account or your progress is completely wiped if you uninstall/reinstall :)

Yeah it's pretty great, though it falls off by the end. The nemesis system is great fun but once you've conquered the armies you'd have to die on purpose to mix things up. The game's story (at least gameplay wise) tapers off hard too, it boils down to a very small battle between a few uruk leaders, and the final two bosses being beaten by a QTE/cutscene.

Early Access Review
There's two curves to this game, the visuals and the difficulty. Once you're past these it becomes an acid trip mosh pit of flying giblets and blood as you land a 60 hit shuffled combo and everything is exploding. This game is incredible

Every so often I come back and have fun but that's only in some pvp and stuff with friends. Honestly though the game is a steaming mess and needs to be nuked. It's been nearly a decade since the original Destiny came out and Bungie still struggle to balance and refine an MMO properly, but are still happy to drain your wallet.

Oh you haven't played in a year? Well you have to buy £120 of DLC to be able to play any new content. Oh and all your favourite weapons and armour you farmed for are useless now lolol. This game just doesn't respect the time you put in at all, it's guaranteed that if you come back from time away you need to get rid of your old stuff.

Not to mention the quality of DLC. It's so hit and miss and they can never hit a balance people enjoy for too long. Witch Queen comes out and it's got a good story, great raid, generally people love the new systems with crafting etc. Then we get Lightfall with an embarrassing story with characters nobody cares for and the average slew of new material grind and NPC reputation grind. Oh and weapon crafting got more grindy since it came out, can't let people have these things without investing 100 hours first! Strand is kinda cool though.

Also they sunsetted tons of things I loved playing as well as gear I loved using. Also they laid off a fat portion of their staff they deemed useless. Also they've somehow only gotten worse at this ever since they cut ties with Activision. All this while still making fat cash off of whales buying silver and all the hyper super duper premium deluxe edition DLCs.

Just go play a different live service-a-thon. You'll get at least a tiny bit more out of it. (cough) play FF14 (cough)

Had to refund on Steam due to technical issues, struggling to run on my old PC.

Playing on PS5 and WOW this game is good. Has a beautifully realised world with a ton of consideration put into the art direction and level design. There are unforgettable vistas, looking at the living world and umbral. Combat is satisfying as hell and has all the bells and whistles of the souls games, with powerstancing and tons of build variety to boot.

I've not yet finished the game but one of my only (potential!!) drawbacks is the enemy placements. They get really cheeky with some boss runs and enemies and it can feel unfair, like multiple ranged enemies with dogs etc. Personally this didn't detract too much from the experience but some people won't like it.

Another issue for me is the lack of enemy variety and minibosses becoming standard enemies - this literally happens like 4 times where you fight a hard enemy and then they reappear as normal (with less HP) later on. It starts to feel like you're fighting the same people over and over.

It's a fantastic game that deserves success but if I could sum it up in one word - cumbersome. I'm 65 hours in and nowhere near the finish. It's had so many times where it's slow and choppy and things don't go your way and it's tiring. Combat has practically reached repetition for me even though I've made my characters more and more powerful. You can't be fun and imaginative in combat if you just fail 5 consecutive rolls, oh wait you can savescum except I don't want to do that. Aghhhh.

I can't finish this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game. I didn't even get to the city itself. The story has almost no pull, it's insanely generic fantasy (I do not care about Ketheric Thorm or the cultists at all) but is mostly saved by the individual character's stories and personalities

Positive review anyway because W Larian
