Truly one of the most interesting and exciting multiplayer games to ever exist. I have never played another competitive shooter that has such immersive, well-rendered environments. There is so much foliage, detailed terrain, and complex interiors in this game. The sound seals the deal, so clear and realistic that you can hear every single action in the game, either giving you the advantage against your opponents when you hear them, or giving yourself away when you slip up. Hearing distant gunshots and mentally noting that one of the 12 players present in a given match is off over that way becomes a habit. Mapping the whole map in your mind based on the sounds you hear around you does too. It's incredible.

The highly balanced arsenal is large and unique: most weapons are either single shot or otherwise slow to fire, meaning that--though the time to kill is low and bullets are very lethal--the fight's not over even if they get the drop on you. Maybe you charge with your knife while they're loading their second shot. Maybe you're dual wielding revolvers, so you've got a second chance when you just barely missed. There are so many different approaches you can take to combat. Shock and awe, sniper, silenced and sneaking, trapper, melee. Anything is viable, though the strongest move is always to try and catch your enemy off guard in any way you can. Teamplay is a blast, and can be so dynamic and tactically/strategically stimulating, but playing solo is great too. To me, it yields a very different experience. Much more tension, fear, and trying to remain unseen as a trio sprints unknowingly into the compound you're passing through.

That's all to say very little about the crazy and unique setting that creates such a strong sense of place for this game. It's weird, it's dark, it just strikes something in me that makes me love it all so much more. And so Hunt: Showdown is immersive, fun, great with friends, balanced, unique, satisfying, and tons of other good things. Oh, and well-supported by the devs too. Their passion for Hunt is very obvious and endearing. Easily one of the best multiplayer games of all time, if not my number one favorite at this point.
