I really underestimated this game, when i saw it in some youtuber's video, i ended up wishlisting it for later.
But it's only when my friend gifted it for me that i really realised how good this game is!
I love the story, i love the characters, but most importantly... i love the gameplay!

When you're playing the main story gamemode, once you complete a level you can instantly retry it and do the first challenge (theres 2 challenges for every level) or you can just move on to the next story beat and the next level.
When i was playing personally, i ended up doing a bunch of the challenges, but i really wanted to keep some for later, and the game is really chill about that!

Without any spoilers, i can really reccomend this game for anyone that likes games that can reasonably be completed, but can be replayed a lot! It has a lot of post-story content, and challenge levels!

I love the characters so much aswell.

This game is definitely alright, but theres a lot of small things that just sour the experience for me, so this review is bound to change if those things get fixed.

Again this game is good if you want what's on the pictures.

Here's some things i'd love to see different, i doubt they will change as most havent changed throughout the playtests, but i'm crossing my fingers:

-The skill tree is full of barely noticeable upgrades that don't have any statistics written down. So while you're slowly upgrading your character, you get filled full of upgrades that you either can't notice, or don't even know the difference. I think there's a big difference between and upgrade giving you 2% slide distance and 10%.

Now some of the upgrades are unique, and actually provide noticeable gameplay differences, but it's for those minor upgrades that i would love to hear details to know what to prioritize, especially when there's no option to reset and re-spend your points.
I don't want to use external sources just to know those stats!

-If you get downed, then killed during a match, there's no ability for your team-mates to revive you even if they win every fight.
I think it's partially fair, but also a major annoyance when the time-to-kill is really low, and there's almost no downside for the enemy to take you out of the game as soon as possible. And then you're kinda forced to wait as the match finishes.
I would love to see a way possibly get brought back into the match, something time consuming and fair in cost.
Or at least a way to carry my team-mate's loot to the elevator and have it sent to them? Kinda like the field depot caches?

-There's no unstuck option for when you're crawling, i've gotten stuck on some pipes and some rocks and i think it would be nice to be able to unstuck yourself when the map geometry is troublesome.

-It would be really nice to have a button to track individual items in a crafting recipe, as i'm already encouraged to hoard most of the items as they're used in quests an crafting, it would be nice to be able to track a single item, instead of the ones i already have.

-It would be nice to have more voice menus, one agressive and one positive, so i can tell people to go away

Most of those issues i don't believe are subjective except from a few, and i hope they get adressed at least to some extent as the game progresses, especially because the game is very pleasant in a lot of ways!

Early Access Review
I cannot express how moved i feel by this game. I was a little scared at first when i first saw the youtube shorts.
However this fear quickly faded as i played the demo, and i cannot express how beautiful this game is.

In both gameplay and visuals, BaionLenja is a work of art, it captures pure emotions and feelings, just to put them onto your screen, and via this methode, you will experience something that hasn't been made before. Hallways and rooms taken straight from a dream and put into a game.

The game isn't all art however, and the gameplay is solid, the challenges are often very doable, but sometimes they leave you with a feeling of "i could have done this better".
And as you focus on those parkour obstacles, you will explore a megalophobic facility.

The game is also very well written in my opinion, the lore has me genuinly curious for the world, and the little jokes sprinkled in the game don't feel too intrusive. Ironically enough, everything is very humane.

I tend to give a lot of feedback and complaints in my reviews, however this time i will not, because you deserve to go into this game unsoiled and uncorrupted from useless nitpicks.

And to you developer, keep doing what you've been doing, because it's good.

I would have never expected Golden Light to be such an Artistic game before going into it.
I had seen elements of the game and it's bizzare nature beforehand, however i've never really been in contact with any of it's story or the more abstract ideas of its world.
It was explained to me as "A dungeon crawler where you eat your weapons because they're made of meat".

I had no idea the world was flesh, and the perception of that same flesh.

Golden Light is one of those games that tells a story that is highly influenced by the point of view you're given. As you go through the game it is almost natural to ask yourself if "this is really happening" Or "if it's all in the head", You do not go more than a minute free of what the game wants to show you, elements that make you doubt the insanity of the journey you've been going on.

Golden light is not abstract, everything is smudged to be something else, every part of the game, every idea, every wall, every enemy, and even the story. But it is not without sense or reason.
And it's important to say that it both makes sense and doesn't at the same time.

But the most commendable thing with this game is that you are the recipient of emotions, to the point where you stop knowing if a game mechanic is clunky due to poor polishing, or if it was meant to be this clunky so that you feel the way that you do.
This is often felt in scenes aswell, you lose any idea of conventional game devlopment, you can't guess when the game is loading, and if a scene is supposed to stall for this long.

As you play the game, it connects to your brain in a way your rarely see.
Emotions are being given, images and symbols form connections inbetween your neurons and you are in a way, part of the meat that the game is talking about.

This part has spoilers:
The ending of the game is bittersweet to say the least, but it puts a lot of your adventure in perspective, things now make more sense. And yet it also makes your realise that you can relate to the main character in a way, through emotions, even if you can't feel the exact same biological way... if your brain has an opinion, and emotions regarding this subject, you've connected to the game more than you would have realised

Anyways, i love this game, it is beautiful, stylized, and the gameplay is clunky but its unique in that way.
If this review sounded insane to you, then you kinda get the vibe of the game.

Feel free to leave a comment and yap about what you think!

I think this game really is a work of art, i've said one million times that If the devs already made assets and systems, that it's a good idea to try silly spin-offs. And they did it, and they did it well!

Despite some issues, i've had an amazing time going through the game, discovering everything they have to give, the bosses and the music are great!

A lot of people have voiced their concerns, and i can agree on some points, however i dont feel like they ruin the game, this is still a very unique game that's never been done before even if its a roguelike.

Here are some of my opinions, as i hope this game gets updated, i would to see some of those inclusions:

-Alternative Character abilities, like risk of rain and monster hunter rise, i'd love to see abilities that change up the style of a character, or maybe arts that have different effects and forms, I don't think any character is really bad, but some of the abilities make people less interested in them.

-At some point i'd love to see more weapons, or weapon types, they have a lot of cool types from the elden ring DLC, that could be bought back. However, i think it would be good to be able to Enable/Disable them, so to not bloat the item pool of the original game.

-More skins, most people probably don't care, but i really like some of the skins in this game, and i think it'd be lovely so see more references, or just good looking skins for characters we like, especially because some of the skins are a little underwhelming.

-Just more content in general, i think this game is great, but it lacks some of the elements that add replayability, and i think for this game to prosper, they definitely have to keep working on it, and im crossing my fingers that they do!

-A way to like recycle armaments or something, because you get a lot of stuff, but you don't often get useful things, so maybe having an ability to sell them at the merchant could be nice.

-More bonuses from upgrading weapons, it'd be very nice to get the passive bonuses higher, and it would make sense to upgrade weapons you're not using for their bonuses. Especially because often all my main weapons are purple or yellow and i never use the smithing stones i found.

But yeah, this game is great and i would totally reccomend it, because its a little easier than most souls-likes, yet still very fun to get better at :3

Good luck nighting the reign!

This game is really good, like this is a creation made with so much love and it really shows!

I may have a few complaints, but genuinly everything that i'm not complaining about is good, and i'd love to see where it goes with more polish in the actual game!

Here are a few issues i'm having:
-Glider is the most movement-fun character, from their raw ability, they're easily my favorite, and the others do have movement, but they need to be bought up and balanced a little differently to be more fun without upgrades.
The upgrades are really cool, and i can't wait to discover more and more of them, but i just want the characters to be fun to try out without having to put some time in the game.
I genuinly don't want glider to get nerfed, but i want the other characters to get a little push in the fun direction :3

-Mission pacing: while being in a mission you have to do objectives, and sometimes those objectives spawn enemies or bosses, and thats fine, but enemies are spawning all the time, and it kinda ends up feeling a little bit like a Vampire Survivor game rather than something like DRG where you would prepare for an oncoming wave.

-Damage numbers and types: Sometimes its kinda hard to tell if you're hitting the actual enemy, or one of its legs, and you can't really tell you're doing damage in crazy fights, you're kinda just hoping.
I think it would be very nice to have some kind of combo count for kills like in Helldivers, so that if you kill multiple enemy you can tell you're doing well.
Or have Part damage be grayed out a little bit, and core damage be white?
Because with some weapons and tools you see a lot of numbers but they arent all as important as you'd think.

-Grenades are cool and genuinly useful, but are on really long cooldowns, i think it could just be a demo thing, but i'd love more grenades to fit default playstyles, like "Reusable often, but small blast area" or "Really big damage, but slow cooldown". The elements are cool, but i don't really know what they do without upgrades, and they're all kinda DOT.
I don't think having multiple elemental grenades like this is bad, but maybe it could be a cheap upgrade that still feels unique depending on the element.

And here are some things i'd love to see in the full game, just out of personal preference:

-More things to order with [4], In DRG you can order a ressuply with an in-match currency, and it would be cool to have something in this game to maybe get some sort of turrets, or healing pillar?
It'd be cool to make some sort of temporary safe spot before you have to move again.
And it could fullfill the craving for engineer gameplay haha.

-Some melee weapons or a melee centric character would be very cool haha, i'd love to slice and dice dudes.

Anyways i'm done yapping, this game is gonna be epic, looking forward to the full game.

I've finished the game, so spoilers ahead.

This game is probably the best monster hunter game in terms of Low-Rank story. I've had such a wonderful time, and the final boss is actually wonderful, The hunter and the Palico are really just badasses but still nice people, they know what they're doing, as they've done it before.

In this game, i've grown more attached to characters, erik, olivia, and rove are actual besties, and i hope they get one million wyvern tokens teehee.
Werner sucks tho, i hope he dies in the dlc.

High rank wasnt as good as low rank, the fights were good, and theres good monsters, but the story and the final boss really suck, i finished the game and just ended up disappointed.

In terms of weapons, i had a lot of complaints with new moves for long sword and gunlance, I think it's cool to have extended combos, but they don't really add any mechanical depth to the weapons..

Gunlances gets and extra wyver fire, that doesn't add any depths, you just get to do it again..?
The new big combo is cool, but the only reason not to do it, is that you're forced to do wyrmstake and that prevents you from shielding after the shelling burst if a monster is attacking you..
That's it, you just get a new priority combo.
The focus strike is really cool, and does a lot of damage, but its really hard to land, either pushing you too far, not pushing you far enough, or taking too long, especially when monsters have very short timing weak points.
Also the Dismount attack sucks.
I like the gunlance, i like the fact they're trying to deepend the weapon and make it less clunky, but one combo doesn't add mechanical depth, especially when they removed the slinger bomb, a feature that synergised with itself and other weapons.

Longsword gets their combo freshened up, a really good wound breaked, a lovely mounted finisher.
However the same general loop from world is still present, get your bar up, and do helmbreaker, repeat.
I don't think its as bad as world because they've made the red bar have a better moveset and you have more options to make the bar level up!

For this one, i'm just mad that i keep mising helmbreaker, how do i keep missing it, monsters a huge, am i just having the biggest skill issue?
I know my horrible pc performance is making counters harder, but its just helm breaker and the release.

Also i would love switch skills (not silkbugs) to come back, i think it really aided long sword in Rise, mechanically adding more ways to release the spirit bar and making it level up.

Artian weapons are cool, and i hope title updates add a lot of content, cheers.
