Verdict: Hard to recommend - wespecially at full price. Do not buy this game at full price.

I picked it up for under €10, and honestly, that feels like a fair price for what’s offered here. You can tell the developers at Rocksteady would have much rather made a straightforward single-player open-world game something closer to the Arkham series, but were forced to cram in all kinds of live-service elements. That decision absolutely hurts the experience.

World & Setting
Metropolis is a visually striking and underused setting in games, and here it looks genuinely great. Unfortunately, it’s also completely devoid of life or meaningful activities. Aside from a few Riddler challenges, the city feels empty and pointless. It's a huge missed opportunity.

Story & Structure
The story starts off intriguing enough to keep you going for a while, but it never becomes anything truly good. The premise has potential, but it quickly falls flat due to a formulaic and predictable structure. That same formula seeps into the gameplay itself.

Every mission, side or main, is basically the same: fight endless waves of enemies. Occasionally the game throws in a twist like “only grenade damage counts” or “only crits count,” but it’s still the same repetitive combat loop 99% of the time.

That repetitiveness is ultimately what killed my motivation to finish the game. There are 100s of other games out there that deserve my attetion more than this and so i decided to not bother after a certain point

Highlights
The boss fights against the different members of the Justice League are at least somewhat unique and break up the monotony a bit. The two encounters with Batman stand out as particular highlights. Unfortunately, those moments are the exceptions rather than the rule.

Compare this to Arkham or Spider-Man, where combat is central but far from the only thing you do. Here, combat is everything, and the story or gameplay variety simply isn’t strong enough to make up for it.

Presentation
Graphics: Solid. The game looks good and runs fine. Nothing to complain about here.
Audio: Simple but decent. The voice acting is easily the best part, and the banter between squad members occasionally got a laugh out of me.
Still, it’s nothing you haven’t seen (or heard) a dozen times before.

Final Thoughts
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League feels like a Burger King hamburger. it’ll fill you up for a bit, but don’t expect it to be particularly tasty or nutritious.

At a steep discount, it’s a mildly entertaining time-killer. At full price? Absolutely not worth it.

A very nice little indie game about the quiet life in a small American town, and a woman seeking some time off from her big city life. It would be kinda pointless to write this out in detail, as the description on the store page does a pretty good job at it. So let's just hop into the things I liked and disliked. There will be a bit of a summary at the end.

Here is a list of stuff I really liked in particular:
  • The game features a nice cast of enjoyable characters to interact with. None of them truly feel very deep or groundbreaking, but they are written interestingly enough, that I was enjoying the conversations with them. It does help that the voice acting is actually quite good, especially for a small game like this.
  • The town itself, and the surrounding areas, the lake, and the woods, they are all very charming and the game does a good job at making Providence Oaks feel believable. There's just something about small rural American towns that gets to me, and this does a very good job at capturing this feeling of cozy quietness.
  • The art style reminds me a lot of Firewatch and I think it suits the game very well in creating a certain atmosphere.
  • The Story: I do feel that the gaming world could use more "Everyday Life" stories. Stories in which you don't have to save the world or go on crazy supernatural adventures. Those are totally great too, but I think just regular everyday life can write interesting stories, and this game is a good example of that. Lake's plot is decently written, and I really enjoyed it.
  • I like that there are different romance options. I so appreciate games that are inclusive, and this game does a great job at that.
  • Tons of cute little references to the 80s, including to movies and music.

And it wouldn't be a complete review without the negatives as well, so here are a list of things I didn't enjoy so much:
  • Some ground textures were positioned a bit weirdly. There are parts where the black asphalt clips through the yellow lines of the road, on other places you can see through the map. These aren't very often, but I did notice it so I mention it.
  • The van's rear lights don't function. You have no brake lights for example. This isn't a super big issue, but since it's a game where you spent 99% of your time driving, it does feel noticeable.
  • AI vehicles sometimes behave a bit strange especially when they turn. I had one station wagon almost running over a sign as it was turning at a crossroad.
  • I had some strange shadow issue with electrical poles or rather the cables. They kept disappearing for me when I came closer. That was a bit weird
  • The lip sync is absolutely terrible in some scenes to a point where the character speaks in some sentences without the model actually moving its lips.

And here is a list of things that I am not sure how to feel about. They are sorta good and bad at the same time:
  • The soundtrack: It's actually really nice, mostly consisting of indie-folk, however, the issue I have with it, there are only like 5-6 songs that keep repeating all the time. You will hear the same tunes over and over again, not just on the van's radio, but also in the locations you visit at the drop-offs. I reckon this is a budged thing, with this being an indie game and all. Luckily the game is not long enough for the repetitive soundtrack to get too annoying.
  • The gameplay itself is a very sorta hate it or love it kind of deal. I personally really enjoy the relaxing driving and dropping off of mail and parcels. But you do this all the time. It is a very repetitive game, you also visit the same locations all the time. But I can't blame the game for this. It's simply what mail carriers have to do. But if you are a person who really hates slow-paced, repetitive, unchallenging gameplay, you won't like this. The game is very open about it in its descriptions though, so I would imagine if you bought this, you already knew this. Still gonna mention it though.

Summary:
I really had fun with this game. It's a short game, it took me 6 hours to complete, there isn't that much of a reply value, unless you want to see all the endings and check out all the different romances, but I think one playthrough is perfectly enough of this game. And that is okaii! I think it's a charming little game that tells a story taken right out of everyday life. It's something to play in-between those high-action games, for when you want a nicely crafted relaxed experience. I do recommend it, and to be honest with you, I do kinda like the whole driving around and delivering mail kinda thing and wished the devs would add a sorta endless mode like "Paper's Please" did. Just a suggestion!

I do not posess the right words that would do my emotions and my experience with this game true justice.

But i still feel the need to contribute in making as many people as possible feel the same way, so i will say this, unless you really really really hate action and hack and slay and deep, lore rich games, PLAY THIS.

Also one extra thing...screw the credits mini game, no i'm kidding that's fine too....

First, let me say that English is not my first language so I might make some mistakes here and there.
With that said, the review:

Before I go into detail the TLDR version is:
This game on sale is absolutely worth it. A tactical story-driven game about (surprise) the police. It is a lot shorter than something like "This is the Police" and tactically not as in-depth as "Door Kickers" but you can tell it is a small game made with passion and care. Well worth it for 8 euros. Personally, I think the regular price (14,99) is asking a bit much though. Unlike "Door Kickers" i think this is a game you most likely will not play again after you finish the story. You can see how long it took me.

Now for the more detailed review:

The Plot Summary:
Obviously, I will not spoil anything.
The game is told via flashbacks. Your character is an Officer who, in the 90s, worked with his partner on a strange series of bomb threats to uncover a bigger mystery. I do like the ideas and I see what the devs tried to do but I have to be honest here, the plot twist is very obvious (the whole flashback thing doesn't help with that) and it all ends kinda anti-climactic. It's hard to describe that in detail without spoiling too much. The 18 missions are nicely structured and they do get harder, but it feels like only 5 of them really pushed the plot, the others were more padding. And even though the story is anticlimactic, at the same time it leaves open some big questions the game just forgets to answer, maybe that is intentionally done to set up a sequel. but a "this happened but after that...idk" is not a good way to end a plot.

Difficulty and Gameplay:
This is where the game really shines. I said it isn't as complex as "Door Kickers", and that is the truth, but that does not make it easy or not complex at all. You do have to think and you have to advance carefully through the levels and use the equipment the game gradually offers you. I played on the harder of the two difficulties, and while it was never very hard, I did had to repeat a few missions. And the best thing is that I had to repeat them, knowing exactly what I did wrong. Whenever I failed it was because I rushed things, not because I felt the game was being unfair and hard for the sake of being hard. I also like that enemy (and bomb) placement is random each restart.

The game is a real-time tactical game, if you ever played "Door Kickers" or "Hotline Miami" you got a decent idea of how this might play. You play two Officers from which you actively control one via WASD, and the other one you give orders to via the right mouse button. Things like "Go There" "Cover This" "Door Breach" "Throw Flashbang" "Use the door mirror" (Hello SWAT 4) With this being a game about the police, you have to pick your targets. Shooting civilians is a bad idea and will cost you points (Though as a nice touch, some civilians are "undercover criminals" and will actually pull a pistol on you)
You can shout for people to get on their knees with the E key, sometimes they won't comply and you have to press the F key to make them. (Pro-tip, don't try to run towards a guy with a shotgun and to F key him. No, of course, that never happened to me) Some criminals will give up, some will not. I really like the fact that sometimes you have to make split-second decisions to shoot someone or not to. Arresting gives more points than killing as well.

Before each mission, you select a loadout for you and your partner. I have to be honest, this is not as amazing as it sounds, as you will soon find out that some items are absolutely necessary, while others you will most likely never use. I never used a gas grenade or tear gas in this game, I never used a sensor grenade either. But I would never go into a mission without a medkit or a door mirror for example. You unlock more equipment as you progress through the campaign and all in all the equipment part sounds a lot more complex than it really is in the end. But on the plus side, everything is there that you could really ask for. The only thing I missed was door wedges like in SWAT 4, to block certain access points. But perhaps that was a balance choice, as I can see how blocking in enemies would make the game a lot easier.

Verdict:
In my opinion, it is a nice game, and the idea with the story is nice but sadly the plot falls flat so do not buy it just for that. The gameplay on the other hand is really nice. It is slightly different from Door Kickers but still very fun. I recommend getting this game in a sale but I do like what the devs did here, and I personally would love to see a sequel. Maybe one that explains the whereabouts of a certain someone from the story.

This Review was updated on the 12th of September. My first Review was highly negative due to the horrible state the game was released in. However, since then all the bugs I have mentioned in the said review have been fixed. Which is why I decided to re-review it.

If you don’t like long reviews, check the Verdict at the end of it. Thank you!

Car Mechanic Simulator 18 is the 3rd instalment of the Car Mechanic Simulator Series.
Personally, i only played 2015, so I can’t draw comparisons to the 2014 version. However, after playing 74 hours in Car Mechanic Simulator 15 and now 27 hours of Car Mechanic Simulator 18, I think I'm in a good position to write my review.

What is it about?
If you never played Car Mechanic Simulator let me start by telling you a bit about the game concept. The base idea of the game is pretty simple and straightforward. You will be thrown into a basic garage which you can upgrade, together with an endless amount of randomly generated jobs. These Jobs range from simple stuff like changing the oil to advanced things that have you find out engine problems and fix them. The game also includes a few “Story” Jobs. But the only real difference is that you get a little story text alongside the actual job, so nothing worth talking about really, still a nice touch. The game also gives you the possibility to buy junkers, used, and (since a patch) brand new cars. However, the core gameplay aspect will always be to change parts on cars. Unlike, let's say, Street Legal Redline you won’t have an open world to drive around in and race others, however, they did add a racetrack in one of the patches but as far as I know it is only a time trial. But personally, i’m not too bothered about that. This game is, as the title says, a car mechanic simulator, so I don’t mind spending most of the time in the garage. It's what I expect and what you should too if you buy it :) The game has a perk system as well as a money aspect to it. You get XP and Money from jobs or from fixing up cars you buy. The XP you get to spend on equipment for your garage, or garage upgrades in general (such as more lifters or a path test), the money is mostly used to buy cars and parts. To my pleasant surprise, there are already mods out there, and the devs have announced to add Steam Workshop support in the future. While I come to speak about the devs, I'd like to go into a bit of detail what happened since launch. In my first review, i bashed the game very hard, and I still think it deserved it. BUT I have to admit that the developers have released patch after patch and pretty much worked their butts off to fix it. However, they still don’t get any medals for that. That should be expected, and there's no way I'm going to act as if they did us a favour in doing so. It was their job. But I'm glad they actually did it at least. So while I won’t give them standing ovations like a lot of people seem to do, I will praise them for working very hard and fixing their mistakes.
Anyway, let's get on. Since I would imagine most people played the previous game, I decided to add a section to this review dedicated to what has improved.

What has improved compared to the previous version?
  • There are a lot more parts in the game, and for the first time, certain parts have other parts attached to them. For example, you can take off the wheels, which are made up of Rim and Tires and you have to use a tool to separate both. It does that with quite a few parts which add a lot of depth.
  • Lot more cars
  • The garage is changing visually with upgrades you invest. No more yellow tapes on doors. However, they also stripped you of the ability to change wallpapers, floor colours and stuff like that.
  • Parts are now branded (All made-up brands, unfortunately, but perhaps it could be something people can mod)
  • Interior parts such as seats have been implemented
  • Barn finds have been added
  • A racetrack was added (no AI opponents though)
  • The Junkyard is also a nice little addition that lets you find parts or even entire junk cars
  • Ability to buy brand new cars (honestly I have no clue why anyone would want to but hey it's there)
  • Mod Support (well that was there last year but this year there are actual mods being made :D)
  • Steam Achievements (broken at release, they work now)

Stuff i didn’t like:
No game is perfect and Car Mechanic Simulator 18 certainly isn’t. Here are some things that annoy me.
  • The Horrible Release State. There was no reason for that whatsoever, especially because the developers have proven they can fix it. There is no excuse why they didn’t just sit on it a few more weeks before releasing it.
  • The Grind. It's just as much as it was in 15, if not worse. To give you an example, you need to be level 30 to unlock the tool that lets you fix body parts. That takes absolutely ages of grinding. Some people say it's not that bad if you just take on fast jobs, but it can hardly be a good thing if people need to do that in the first place. I don’t see why they wouldn’t just let you buy equipment.
  • DLC policy. This is something people will always going to argue about, but to me, having DLC cars all over the trailer, hell even having cars from the Dodge DLC right there in the main menu, just leaves a bitter taste for me.
  • Poor Optimization. It improved but the forums are still full of reports of this, and one thing I personally have experienced as well is that this game makes my GPU heat up pretty easily. Nothing too crazy, but it is noticeable. Usually, my temperature is between 35°C and 45°C, max 55°C in most games. However, it easily reaches 70 when I play this game. It's still not an issue, but something I did notice and should mention

Verdict:

If you would have asked me “Is it worth a buy” at release, or even 2 weeks after that...my answer would have been “No way in Hell” But the developers were able to fix their mess, and it is a big enough improvement over the last game for me to justify the asking price. I mean if you look at this, chances are you already know what the game is all about and played the previous game. So the whole “Gets a bit old after 30 hours” is not something that will keep you from playing it. And honestly, it's not something that keeps me from playing never play this game for hours and hours on end, but I do come back to it pretty much every week. So yeah, I think you should go for it and test it out. Refunds are always an option if you, but for me, it's a very solid game now.
