There’s an incredible amount of busywork in Alien: Isolation. Large portions of the game boil down to running back and forth between two or three rooms, with the only real “challenge” being that the alien is also there. It doesn’t feel tense so much as tedious.

The minigames are mostly disappointing. About 90% of them are just the same one repeated over and over, with a couple of others reused a few times and a handful that appear once. They’re extremely simple and give no real sense of accomplishment when completed.

There are also a lot of quick time events. It is a 2014 game, so that part is somewhat expected, but it still feels dated.

Technically, the game is very buggy. I don’t know if this is purely age-related, but it seriously hurts immersion. You can often tell when the xenomorph has spawned because its model stretches through the map into infinity. Sound frequently goes out of sync during animations and in-engine cutscenes, which constantly pulls you out of the experience.

I played on Hard, which is the recommended difficulty, and even then I was constantly maxed out on crafting materials. This makes exploration feel pointless, since everything you find is just more materials you don’t really need.

The controls feel outdated — even for a 2014 release. The setting is honestly the strongest part of the game: the cassette futurism sci-fi aesthetic is great. Unfortunately, it gets boring after a while because most areas look very similar, and you’re forced to revisit the same locations repeatedly.

Combat can also feel unreliable. Sometimes your crosshair is directly on an enemy and the shot still misses.

As for the alien’s AI, it often feels like it exists solely to waste your time. The optimal strategy is usually just to sit still and wait for it to leave the room — except the timing feels completely random. The much-praised “unpredictability” often comes across as nonsense behavior: the alien leaves a room, immediately turns around, comes back, stands still for six seconds, leaves again, and then re-enters through a different door.

The number of times I thought “clever girl” was maybe four. The number of times I thought “this idiot, can you please act like an actual apex predator designed to hunt?” is impossible to count.

Walking sims can be done well, and while this is considered to be the first one, it doesn't change the fact that it is a boring slog with only enjoyable parts being some pretty, screenshot worthy views and beautiful ost by Jessica Curry.
I rate this a bit higher just because for the time the game was very beautiful, which makes me wonder why nothing was done for the remaster

If you do happen to to buy the remaster, atleast you get access to the dev commentary, which is much more interesting than the games story.

If you have played the original game, i don't think there is any point in playing this. I honestly did not see or hear anything being more high fidelity compared to the original release. Sounds, and views were just as beautiful. The Commentary is the only worthwhile addition (and the only one?) and is actually much more enjoyable than the story itself.

Its propably my favourite coop fps game. I like it as much as Left 4 Dead, but the combat and learning curve are much deeper and steeper. This makes beating the challenges feel more earned.

This might very well be the best 2 hours you can buy with about 10€. The graphics are timeless, the multiplayer is perfect in its simplicity and the music is just as good. I've come back to this game over the years on multiple different platforms, and never gotten bored of it!

Funky game with simple combat that gets challenging towards the end. A great achievement from such a small group of developers.

Great with pal's, friend's, masochist's and sadomasochist's.
Game will be just as hard (or ease) as your imagination allows it to be.
Ban coins tho.

There are definite improvements when compared to First Encounter. Areas are more varied and it really uses Serious Engines high draw distance capabilities to its advantage. It is full of huge areas full of enemies and... well more enemies. To be honest textures are fantastic.

If you have played first game, there isn't anything new here. Encounters keep getting longer like in the FE, except levels are longer now and so is the game. So by the time you get to the end the fights last for like 20 mins, even with 3 players. New weapons help a quite a bit.

There are some really great Easter eggs and secrets. some rooms are really greatly designed and add fun spin to mostly boring combat. Sound design is also pretty great, music gets you pumped up and all enemies sound distinct.

All in all, its a fun game to play while catching up with friends, and i will be using yell of headless kamikaze as my phone alarm clock.

Positive points
-great secrets
-good looking
-good sound
-new weapons are fun for a while

Negative points
-too long
-not enough variety in enemies
-makes you doze off towards the end

Pretty fun game, with friends at least. Game does get pretty boring towards the end since most encounters become just running around an arena gunning down bone boys for increasingly longer time. Weapons aren't that fun after a while, except cannon that thing is hella rad.

It's a pretty short game but not short enough, last hour really felt like driving a car while trying to fight dozing off. Atleast last boss makes it worth it. And thank god there are no lives.

Positive points
-Fun with friends
-Almost right length
-Fun Easter eggs

Negative points
-Too many bony boys
-Too many frog lads
-Fun wears of pretty fast
-Good game to play while catching up with friends
