If you're even a little curious, why not just take the plunge and see what happens? ;)

Early Access Review
It's quite impressive how stable and optimized it is, not to mention just how much content is in the game already. There is always something to do, and nearly everything you do has a nice feel/feedback for accomplishing it. Definitely give this a try if you think you might be even a tiny bit interested!

Edit: Updated Oct. 2021.
I take it all back, this game is not worth the purchase price. There has been little-to-no progress made in the most lacking areas of the game. There is no joy to be found in what little end-game exists. As a single-player story experience, it is serviceable. However, if you're looking to gain anything more from this game than a serviceable single-player campaign/story-mode, don't bother, there is nothing to be found. Multiplayer is basically non-functional on Steam still, and when it does function you'll still never experience it, as now there is a dearth of players. The single-player campaign has no value beyond the first playthrough. Earlier in the first quarter of 2021 the developers decided to reduce, to a large degree, the amount of XP you earn in-game. The existing rate of advancement was already rather lean and could have used an increase, not a decrease. Now, as of this writing, the developers have broken their original promises to customers and began to sell boosters to increase the your XP gain, rather than simply restoring the rate of advancement to the level prior to the Q1 2021 patch.
I strongly recommend avoiding this title. If you simply have to experience the story mode, then I recommend playing on Game Pass or picking it up during a sale which reduces the price by AT LEAST 50%.

I'm leaving my original review below for posterity, and humor at my naivete.

Excellent game, excellent campaign. A few technical issues, the team is actively patching and working on. More depth and a better story campaign then I would have expected. Deep character build system and itemization reminiscent of older ARPGs where stats and skill choices actually matter and drastically change the way you play, not just "Item Level". A special note for the INCREDIBLE voice acting is well deserved. Quite possibly some of the best voice work I've heard in a game.

Monetization is actually rather generous for a AAA title. Only a cosmetic marketplace, that's it so far at launch. No lootboxes, MTX currency is earnable in-game, no "seasons" which means no FOMO shenanigans with regards to unlockables and cosmetics, their "battle pass" isn't a battle pass, it's a cosmetic unlock progression system with NO TIME LIMIT. Also, a generous amount of cosmetics and skins that are only unlockable via gameplay and can't be purchased in their marketplace.

Overall excellent game, far more content and deeper than I would have expected especially given the PR leading up to release. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a fun single or multi-player ARPG. Worth the full price of admission and a bargain if you can get it on sale.

Just cute enough to not be annoying. Just serious enough to be engaging and maintain interest in the narrative. Just sandboxy/free enough to be creative, try new ideas and have fun without feeling aimless, directionless and not sure what's worth doing next.
If you want to play a game where you live in a tiny town of unique characters, build a house, farm some things and kill some monsters, there is absolutely no game more perfect at realizing this concept than Stardew Valley. A must buy, even if only curious, even when there's no sale.

Gave this game a shot after burning out on Destiny (should have known better, consoles, lol) and hearing someone mention in passing that Destiny actually ripped MANY things from this game.

I had absolutely no idea how accurate that was. What further impressed me, however, was just how many things Warframe did RIGHT where Destiny disappointed and did wrong.

This game is really impressive, especially given it's free to play business model. The business model of any free to play game being often key in determining the enjoyment and structure of the overall gameplay, I can safely say this game does free to play correct. They have an excellent, non-exploitative business model based around selling impatience and cosmetic fluff. There is nothing relating to actual gameplay that you can not earn in the game, most of it in a rather reasonable amount of time either. There is no area, segment, map, mode or feature that is locked out for free players. There is no tiered access, there is no subscription plan. As a person who never spent a dime and a person who spent $200, you are treated the same, you won't even find a mention in a menu, login screen or chat window letting you know how special paying players are or how special you are if you've paid. This is wonderful.

Regarding the gameplay, it is a rather solid game. Nearly the only issue I've had with the gameplay is that the movement system can often be more than a little quirky, sometimes to the point of minor annoyance. The difficulty can often be a bit higher than you might expect going in, especially attempting to play through content solo. However, the action itself from melee to gunplay is rock solid, the enemy AI is competent and the netcode is generally good. Both melee and ranged combat have solid and distinct feels to them that lend themselves to a sense of satisfaction after persevering in the face of a difficult mission as well as a bit of "just one more time" addiction when failing spectacularly.

The performance overall has been stellar, running a modest system that I would classify as mid to high-end, I have all settings maxed, including running built-in SMAA with a solid 60 fps at 1080p in even the most dense of scenes with multiple players and tens of AI enemies on the screen.

Really this game quite surprised me and I was left feeling disappointed I didn't join in sooner. Give this game a shot, I strongly recommend it. You have nothing to lose and a very high chance of gaining a new favorite game!
