Contains AI generated content (Some of the stickers are *really* lazily created with very obvious markers like two barrels or multiple ejection ports as well as the usual AI funk).

No persistent servers (or even persistent lobbies!!), which means even though this game has a hundred thousand concurrent players, you STILL have to wait for matchmaking and you STILL can end up with bots in your lobbies. Also means you have a very high chance of repeatedly joining matches mid-progress, instead of just staying in the same server.

Skins also look trash, exactly the same ♥♥♥♥ they made fun of in the earlier trailers. Imo there shouldn't even be paid skins, but that's what gaming is today I guess.

Weapons are not locked to classes, which is a subjective thing but personally I think they should've stuck with BF4 class-locked weapons. You can have this if you choose class-locked weapon lobbies in matchmaking, however you have maybe 5% of the population queueing for that so no point really.

Maps are ok, but they're generally quite small. I like the maps personally but again it's pretty subjective.

Gunplay is great, sound design is awesome, vehicle gameplay is meh, engineer rockets need rebalancing because currently literally no reason not to use the RPG. Assault's class gadget is absolutely useless. I've not played the campaign yet.
I don't like BR in anything, so can't comment on that. Gauntlet was fun however, and a good way to try before you buy the full game. Normal multiplayer is 1000x better than Gauntlet though.

The first two issues I mentioned are enough to not recommend though, and I will not be playing again until something is done about the AI content. I also think that proper persistent servers like in every pre-BF2042 game is VITAL to the longevity of the game.

I also think this will be the last BF ever worth buying, but that might be conspirational.

This was a really fun and engaging little puzzle game. It's cute and I got more attached to the story than I expected. I enjoyed the little extra gimmicks in each level, and the main mechanic itself is just a really nice and unique concept. I played through the game over the course of a few sessions and think it was a nice length, although certain types of levels do repeat a few times so it doesn't feel quite as varied.

Overall a delightful little game.

Three years since i played this, whoops.
This was a great introduction to the steam deck, covering many of the features and giving you a bit of a tutorial. It's also nice to have even a tiny bit more content for the Aperture universe.
It's also free.

A nice nostalgia trip. CTC1 and 2 are both great, but as I'm sure you've read several times in these reviews CTCA is very different and pretty meh in my opinion.

1 and 2 aren't very long although the player packs add a lot of extra content. I probably only played about 10 minutes of CTCA before I switched it off though, so no idea how long that is.

While I am recommending this, I do think it's a big shame that seemingly no changes or bugfixes are made. They're not super buggy games, but considering I have a 7900XTX and a 5800X I had pretty ♥♥♥♥ performance. That seems to be the case with quite a few of these legacy collections though. Still, don't expect this to be any better experience than it was when you first played it.

This review is a little late; I played and finished the game years ago. I finished the sequel a couple years ago even.

This game is brilliant. The combat is fluid, the platforming is fun (I even really enjoyed the bloodstained crossover sections). The visuals are amazing - the game has some of my favourite pixel art I've seen. Majority of deaths feel fair and the bossfights were pretty much all great.

Definitely pick this game up and the sequel when you've finished it.

This game is no longer safe to play due to yet another RCE exploit being discovered and used.

DO NOT PLAY MULTIPLAYER. YOU WILL LOSE YOUR STEAM INVENTORY, STEAM ACCOUNT, AND ANY OTHER CREDENTIALS ON YOUR PC. REINSTALL YOUR OPERATING SYSTEM IMMEDIATELY IF YOU HAVE BEEN COMPROMISED.

Screw activision. WWII, MW3, MW2, BO3, BO2, BO1, and possibly more all have these RCE exploits. Games are still on sale. Despicable

A very fun game with the most engaging sniping mechanics I've played. I much prefer the sniping in this game to the Sniper Elite series, as you don't have to rely on a red dot to be able to hit your shots, but you also don't have to think too hard about the shots - all the information you need is there for you to work it out.

There are not many missions and they're not individually super long, but I played through the whole game on the 2nd hardest difficulty and completed as many challenges as possible (80%ish completion for most missions) and put a decent amount of time into the game. Not as much as my hours suggest, but still well worth it considering how often it goes on sale.

There's not much of a story, but there's nothing wrong with it in my opinion and I enjoyed it regardless. The non-sniping gunplay is pretty nice, though the focus is clearly on the snipers here. There are two types of missions, 'longshot' and 'classic'. Longshot is usually a much smaller explorable map, but your contracts are 1km~ away so you find vantage points to complete them from that distance. These are my favourite as they really make the sniping shine when you have to consider high bullet drop, wind speed, and multiple seconds between firing and the round reaching your target. Completing these objectives without raising the alarm is almost like a puzzle; getting each enemy alone (or in line with eachother for a double or triple shot) and avoiding anyone from hearing or seeing your work. The optional objectives in this mode only focus on the long distance targets (nothing in your explorable map) and usually require a few replays of the mission to complete them all. Often it may require you to kill a target in a certain way, or avoid raising alarms at all.
The classic contracts are bigger, more open maps that usually take a lot longer and are more about stealthing around, killing certain targets or completing objectives such as stealing a phone or disabling a radar jammer. Stealth is not (usually) necessary, though on the harder difficulties a full on frontal assault can get you pretty hurt. The objectives here are varied enough to be pretty engaging, and the maps are well designed. The non linear world gives you many opportunities to complete contracts in a unique way and have fun doing it.

The progression systems are neat; a few skill trees covering your equipment and abilities as well as many different weapons and attachments. Due to the stealth requirement, I honestly didn't really touch most of the weapons aside from the snipers and two of the (suppressed) pistols. That said, the rifles, shotgun, SMGs and the bow were fun while I did try them out.

The game has a few bugs, but nothing major in my opinion - occasionally you get stuck, AI glitches, and once I had an enemy take cover 30ft in the air.

Definitely recommend this game, at least when it is on sale. I had a lot of fun with it and look forward to SGW Contracts 3.

I absolutely adored the original Risk of Rain. It was one of the first games I purchased with this steam account, and I put in many hours on it through both steam and even more offline through DRM free versions. I pretty much 100%'d it (although, never knocked 20 whirls to their deaths...) and the only real reason I don't play it so much now is that the controller support is awful, as is both local and online play, and the native linux version no longer works and saves aren't compatible between windows and linux so I don't bother with proton for it.

Risk of Rain Returns is an amazing recreation of the original. I think I like every single change they have made; the graphics are wonderful and improve on the original, the music is absolutely amazing again including the new variations of tracks. There are even more secrets to find on all levels, and each stage now has 6 variants instead of 2. There are more artifacts, though I have not found all of them yet. The items brought back from RoR2 as well as a few new ones are great additions, as are the new alternative abilities for characters. I have also enjoyed playing as one of the new characters, however I have not experimented with all three yet. There are now also trials in the game, which are (mostly) fun and challenging. I really enjoyed the castlevania one in particular.

All of the new content really adds to what was already brilliant.

I absolutely recommend this. Local and online are both vastly improved, so would recommend this one for playing with friends too unlike the original. RoR2 never clicked with me quite as much as the first game does, this now has the best of both worlds imo.

Also will be the last Risk of Rain related product I ever buy, as this is the last entry Hopoo are actually developing, and Gearbox have already decided to make a f***ing mobile gacha of it.

Fiiinally just got the last achievement (Flawless Penance, done on the final boss because I'm stupid) of this beautiful game.

I adored the first, and the sequel has lived up to and exceeded the expectations set by it.

The 'multiple weapons' was not exactly what I had imagined, but it's done in a unique and very metroidvania way, and it adds a lot to the game. Most of the bosses felt very fun and engaging, especially as you gain more abilities and progress further in the game.

I have thoroughly enjoyed exploring the beautiful, beautiful pixel art world of this game, and the combat is even better than it was in the first. I believe pretty much every bug I encountered when I first started playing (within a week of release) have been fixed by the time I finished.

I am a little sad there's no NG+, but I imagine that will come in time - I also assume there may be more (paid or more likely free) DLC added down the line, but I am not certain of that.

I enjoyed the story, the cutscenes and all the NPCs. The VO was great - in both English and Spanish. The sound design in general is amazing, it adds a lot to the combat and gameplay, and the soundtrack is yet again beautiful.

Definitely recommend, for fans of the first game, and for fans of both soulslikes and metroidvanias.
