good puzzle

This game is great, but as it is clearly inspired by Myst, I can't help but make comparisons.

First of all, this is a puzzle game. Are the puzzles good? Absolutely. This game has some great puzzles that absolutely match the quality of Myst, but might not live up to the difficulty. There are only a couple puzzles I didn't like; they were almost all top quality throughout. I would like to compare this game to Obduction, as they are both attempts to be spiritual successors to Myst. Since Obduction has somewhat spotty puzzle design, Quern absolutely wins out in this regard.

I would like to also talk about worldbuilding, story, and general aesthetics. This might not matter to some people, but in my opinion it is a very important part of succeeding Myst. Quern does pretty well here. The environments look great and they they have a bit of the mysterious aesthetic that Myst had. A bit. Unfortunately my standards are unreasonably high for this category, and I was somewhat disappointed by a couple of things. Firstly, environment variety. This is something that Obduction did excellently, so it was disappointing to see Quern (mild vague spoilers) set up the idea of wildly different environments without really following through. Another problem comes from the way the story is told, which is directly. There are mysterious things in this game, but they often are explained directly to the player in a way that is impossible to miss. This leaves the world feeling a little bit dull, as the environments feel a more dead without mystery. These aren't major flaws, and I thought the story was overall good enough for what the game is trying to be, but good enough is not the same as excellent, and since Obduction is excellent in these categories, you might want to check it out if you are looking for the feeling of exploring a mysterious world. I don't think you should pass on Quern for this reason though, the game does fulfill this need, if not quite as well.

Overall I was very impressed by Quern,.What it does best it does amazingly, and what it does worst is still pretty good. Pick up this game if you liked Myst, or are otherwise interested in puzzle games.

I prefer playing games in real life, but I wont say no to free board games.

This game is very relaxing. There are no life or death consequences, there is just the feeling of achievement by growing your farm and the friends you make along the way. This is not a fast paced game, but it is full of fun little details that are super charming and keep you wanting to discover more. I was surprised by how much I love this game.
