I never thought I'd be saying that I'm glad these guys got taken off The Wolf Among Us 2, but if it meant this got created.. I'm down for that. This game was awesome, the character animation and writing are really the strongest points.

I had played this game off of steam but it was so good I had to buy it here to support this studio. If you are considering this game, please do yourself a favor and play it. It's truly a return to form for video games, the devs took their time to carefully craft a beautiful game with amazing gameplay and characters, 6 years of development for an awesome experience for just 50 dollars, a far cry from what greedy scum like Nintendo or Microsoft are wanting to charge for their one year turnaround crunch-tastic microtransaction filled slop.

The best souls-like I have played that's not made directly by From Soft.

Only a couple bosses and moves I think need tweaking (namely Archbishop, Simon and some of the field bosses like DOOR GUARDIAN)

There are some minor gameplay annoyances and bugs like stamina regen being a bit slow, and some status effects applying affects before they're even fully applied (shock reducing stamina regen , as well as break applying healing reduction), though these could be design choices but they seem like bugs to me, as usually in souls-like games the bar needs to fill before you are actually afflicted with any negative affects.

The one major thing I think is a problem for the game is the general spongy-ness of enemies later in the game. In my opinion Elden Ring also had this issue to an extent, the amount of damage you can take is far less than even minor enemies who seem like they should be on even footing with you, and it can feel like a slog especially in NG+ to fight bosses with ridiculously inflated health bars, I am one who enjoys spending extra time doing NG+ cycles for new gear and trying new weapons/builds, but in this game I am a bit unmotivated because of the amount of time each fight takes. For right now I rate this game an 8.5/10, if they fix the spongy-ness and the other things mentioned I think this game enters GOTY territory. Great stuff looking forward to DLC if there is any.

I pre-ordered the original Overwatch and put 2000+ hours into it, loved the game to bits. To call this greed-fueled, empty-promise filled, cuckholding piece of monetization a "sequel" is an insult to gaming as a whole. If you purchase things in this game, you are part of the problem.

It's really a great game, lets get the one negative out of the way, teen queues are pretty long due to not many monster players, the tutorial for monster players needs improvement as it doesn't really teach you how to play in a real match. This game is not like dbd when playing monster, there is a push and pull where when you have your abilities you can be aggressive, but when waiting for cooldowns you need to be very careful of the teens because they can and will defend themselves with weapons.

Now the positives:

Let's start with one thing that is central to the gameplay which differs when compared to other asymmetrical games (namely Dead by Daylight). In this game there really is no escape, the objective of the game is to kill the other team with whatever means necessary. A key component to player versus player games being fun is interaction with the other team, this game makes that interaction central to the objective of the game. Rather than just trying to escape or evade the other team the entire match which can lead to very boring matches for either side, they are made to interact throughout the whole match leading to much more exciting gameplay on average.

The solo experience on the team side in asymm games is quite the point of contention with a lot of people, in Dead by Daylight the solo experience can be truly awful, not only because of the lack of information which could be provided by being on comms with teammates, but because of lack of coordination of objectives and timing of certain plays. VHS isn't perfect as a solo teen, but it has much better UX for solo players. The UI is very helpful in this game, it tells you the area each teammate is in, what they are doing, and what their status is. VHS features a built in team voice system, so you can speak to your teammates directlym and if that's not your cup of tea, there is also a very useful ping system which allows you to coordinate ambushes while being chased and coordinate important objectives like crafting weapons and healing.

The progression system seems to be much better than Dead by Daylight's from the outset in my opinion, each character has their own "journey" in which you gain points to move through and unlock things like cosmetics, perk slots, and perk points for the character. Each journey has three acts, and each of these acts unlocks the respective rank of that character's perks on all other teens.

Would reccommend, for right now it's a 7/10 solo 9/10 with friends.
