A wonderful retelling of the old game with some new delightful twists.

It's a shame that the second one isn't anywhere near as good.

A genuinely not fun experience.

The mechanics of this game are as divorced from reality as my team is from playing the objective.

The challenges are super buggy and many are not tracking. You aren't getting anything for playing the game. Extrapolate that fact to everything else.

This game is another shameless cash grab from EA to capitalize on the name of Battlefield. There will never be a return to form, they want to grab the mindless CoD twitch streamers to play this game the same way to trick your 13 year old to play it. They trick you with the name and paid reviews.

Welcome to the future of gaming, everything sucks.

A tremendously underwhelming installment.

Additionally, it is not good on the Steam Deck. Tons of graphical bugs amongst other issues.

If you are looking for an interesting combat simulator with RPG elements, this is not it. There is so much about this game to love, but the combat is -at best- not rewarding.

On a line graph between 90s JRPG and real life sword fighting, it is a bit close to real life than Elder Scrolls games.

It is less than intuitive, and frequently behaves in ways that are contrary to how the game communicates the mechanics.

So, if you're looking to live out a medieval daydream in Bohemia as a mighty knight... THIS IS NOT THAT GAME. NPCs will always have an edge on you with scaling stats that will always outshine your own. The combat is unpredictable.

* To those who will say, "Get good":
- I have experience in several games with more nuanced and complex combat mechanics, and they all shine in comparison to this (the standout being Mordhau). This is in addition to two decades of real life experience sword fighting. If you play this game, you will find yourself fighting with the game to do things which are plainly obvious and desired behaviors; and you will be punished for anticipating that the game is going to behave in the way it says it will.

* To those who think that combat is meant to be challenging and dangerous, and the game mechanics drive you to try to avoid combat you don't have an edge in.
- Yeah, no duh. I am aware of that. But eventually you need the combat mechanics of a heavily combat focused game to work and make sense. Additionally, that argument holds a lot less water when the game easily funnels you into making a character who should be able to handle combat.

In so far as polish, the game probably came out a month early. But mechanically, and gameplay-wise it is complete.
The game is fun, and rewarding.

Helldivers 1 is a great game. It is exactly what it sets out to do. It's a ton of fun and definitely worth a play. It's an incredible game to play with friends, either couch co-op or online.

I'm normally opposed to this, but it's important that the developer feels the hurt on this. They have used the name brand of Helldivers to make an objectively inferior game where they must punish anyone who plays it in ways they find untoward. If the development team that worked on 2 had worked on 1, it would be unplayable right now.
