Funcom’s latest update is a gut punch to anyone who came to Dune: Awakening for high-stakes, open-world PvP. By turning the entire southern half of the Deep Desert into a PvE-only zone, the devs have essentially amputated half the game’s danger.

What used to be a thrilling, high-risk sandbox has now been sterilized. The Deep Desert was meant to be lawless, where only the strong (or clever) survived. Now, it’s just another farming zone with “training wheels.” Nerfed the agility of ornithopters, one of the last tools for creative, asymmetrical fights. Sure, it was janky—but it added life. Now? Combat feels sanitized, like it was designed by a committee scared of Reddit backlash. If someone wants to run, they can and you cannot do anything about it. Good luck catching them with your speed debuffs. This all comes after 80+ hours of PVE content.

The best part about this update is they "Fixed" un-raidable bases that are actively being used at this moment. Turns out they removed the ability to create these bases but never went about removing them from the game world. So now these pentashield bases litter the DD like tumbleweeds. All unraidable, Meaning if someone has a unraidable base next to a resource, good luck farming because they will use these pentashield bases to constantly harrass, and if you try to build a base, you will get raided with no ability for a counter attack. 5 players can make 25 players sit at their base while the storm is active. Not balanced, not fun, and certainly not thought out.

The new update was pushed out in less than 24 hours of a public test version being launched, with little to no thought on the repercussions it will have showing they are more willing to cater to the public for the sake of making money. It represents a retreat, not a refinement. Dune: Awakening once dared to offer a raw, dangerous world—but now, it’s another MMO afraid of offending PvE players. If you came for that wild-west feel, you’ll find an empty desert instead. The developers caved on their vision within two weeks of the game releasing. I do not expect the game to last very much longer unless the devs re-correct their way of thinking and catering to the public.

Early Access Review
Amazing game despite it being in alpha,

Pros
- Beautiful graphics
- Game play that keeps dragging me back for more
- Very high tension moments
- A very active Dev team

Cons
- There are a few minor issues with chunk loading, small techincal issues.
- Too many sharks, if you plan to paddle anywhere, expect some company.
