Does everything the base game does but worse. 3 of the boss fights are actually cool and fun, exploration isn't rewarded. Still somehow has more and better content than most full modern AAA games.

TLDR: A good souls-like game that has a decent amount of content right now. If you don't want to drop the money for it now, I can almost guarantee this game will be amazing when it fully releases.

I'll start by saying that Moon Studios' largest mistake with this game was marketing it as an ARPG when really it's really just an isometric souls-like. This wouldn't be that much of an issue, but the average ARPG player has the mental capacity and temperament of a toddler. This has led to a lot of "y is game so hard, I can't hold down whirlwind button and beat game" complaints and negative reviews. To go along with classifying it as a souls-like, this game's difficulty curve is like that of Elden Ring; it is as difficult as you make it. If you are actually capable of critical thought, this game will pose a decent but completely surmountable challenge for you. Parrying is probably the best I've seen in any souls-like as it is very forgiving, and rune attacks are so overpowered you could probably set up a build right now to 1-2 shot some bosses with a few of them.

My main gripe with those types of negative reviews are that they draw attention away from the actual problems that this game has. The bug list is a mile long, hitboxes, and a general unbalance of some items/equipment. That being said, Moon Studios seems to be on top of it, as we have gotten multiple hotfixes already that have solved many game breaking bugs and item issues.

I've done nearly everything this game has to offer so far. Combat is overall very tight, despite some of the bosses having some weird hitbox issues on their attacks. You can make multiple types of builds, much akin to how you would make a character in a souls game. Building up the town to unlock new merchants and improve their stock is fun (although I wish it wasn't such a pain in the ass to get wood). The art style and cutscenes are incredible. Exploration is well rewarded. The "puzzles" are pretty elementary and I would like to see improvement there. I want to say the story is good, but we haven't gotten that far into it at this point, so I'll just say it's decent for now. 18 hours for Act 1 is pretty damn good, and hopefully they cook up many more. After hitting a wall in the crucible dungeon, I believe a new character and build is in order.

A great homage to the early Armored Core games, with a bit of Earth Defense Force and Ace Combat thrown in. The campaign is short and sweet and the wave mode is fun and simple. Highly recommend for those that want a simple mech game. Support this dev, he is definitely cooking if this is his first(?) game.

TLDR: I got the super-giga-ultra-cringelord edition of this game in a Humble Bundle with a bunch of other games for like $12. If you can't that kind of deal on this game then don't buy it. In general, this is the worst iteration of Borderlands yet.

One of the worst stories I have ever witnessed in any form of media. Who the ♥♥♥♥ wrote this ♥♥♥♥? Better yet, how did it get approved by anyone higher up? Cutscenes are atrocious. Dialogue is awful. Characters all seem to be mentally deficient with the decisions made. A bunch of interesting lore was completely retconned so that they could have m'girl power story. Old characters that return have been gutted and turned into husks that just show up and spout ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ for nostalgia's sake. I had heard the ending was bad in this game, even when compared to the rest of the story, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ its so cringe. Girl on Fire??????

For a game that boasts "one gorillion gun different types of guns", this game has the worst guns in any Borderlands game I have played. A lot of the concepts for the guns are cool, but why would I use the new legendary I got that bounces around and "says ow! ow! ow!" when the blue gun I got 15 levels ago is still doing an astronomical amount of damage comparatively? Drop rates are weird as hell too. Legendary drop from random skag on the side of the road, but when I go into a vault its only greens and whites. The guns being lackluster is a shame because the builds, movement, and gunplay in this game are the best in the series.

This game feels absolutely amazing but there simply isn't much content, which is a damn shame. I beat the campaign in a little under 2 hours and then messed around with firefight. If I really tried I could probably squeeze out a couple more hours of game time but I don't see much appeal to firefight or rogue steel that would keep me playing for very long. I think $25 is a very steep price for what is offered here, but definitely pick it up when it is on sale for some very good movement shooter gampeplay.

A very flawed game with two main reasons I'm giving it a positive review: climbing on big monsters and the final boss fight. I think everything else in the game kind of sucks, but those two things turn this game from a 3 or 4/10 into a 6/10. The post-game content also looks to be where the majority of the "fun" things to do are, but I am not sure if I can force myself to play it after having to run from one end of the map to another for every single quest. The game frequently goes on sale for $4 so pick it up if you want to bash a cyclops in the back of the head until it falls down with a concussion.

I really wish this game was good. Continued release of overpowered units and lack of balancing makes it impossible to overlook other flaws in the game like the horrendous grind. I have 360 hours in this game and just started to feel like I was getting some decent units. The concept of a multiplayer game where everyone controls their own unit is amazing, but this game fails to deliver. I had a lot of fun in this game, but I spent even more time frustrated and annoyed. Hopefully someday another studio will do this genre justice, because the developers of this game have shown time and time again that they have no interest in making this game better.

TLDR: Is this the perfect game with flawless systems that everyone will love? No it isn't. It is a game that has conceptually amazing systems that only seem to have been half-baked. Despite this, I still think it is worth picking up when it is on sale because there are many gems hidden in the pile of bugs, crashes, jank, and design problems.

I have a big love/hate relationship with this game. Having followed its development since 2012, you can imagine my disappointment with the game's buggy launch. I had to refund the game because I couldn't get past the first few quests in Skalitz without either crashing or encountering a game breaking bug that would prevent me from progressing at all. I bought the game again about a year later and had almost the exact same experience I had before, so I refunded the game once again. About another year after that, I decided to give the game another shot because it was on sale for $15. I played it again and actually made it a little bit through the story, only to have my save get corrupted. It sat in my steam library for another year until one of my friends started to play it, so I decided to give it another shot.

I'm glad that I kept trying to play this game after all these years because when it shines, its very bright. There are so many cool and unique concepts and moments in this game that are well worth your time investment if you can make it past all of the garbage. The story is generally pretty good and it weaves in actual history pretty well. Most of the quests and NPC interactions are fantastic, and I really enjoyed a lot of the characters. How could you not like discovering that the local pastor is actually a former soldier, only to get ♥♥♥♥-faced drunk with him and raise hell in the town, just to get dragged into having to give his morning sermon for him because he was too hungover? Interactions like that are what make this game worth playing despite all of its faults.

The RPG mechanics are done fairly well, but I believe the game could have benefited much from having a much larger perk selection. Towards higher levels I found that after taking all of the perks I wanted for my play-style that the only perks I could choose from anymore were actually just worse than if I didn't take them at all. Certain skills like hunting feel absolutely pointless, while skills like speech are almost essential. Alchemy is very cool and I would like to see more games implement this system in the future, but it has a very big problem: you don't have to use it, at all. Why would I brew my own potions when every bandit I come across has 2-3 of the really good potions on them?

Combat skills suffer from the combat system itself. At first glance you might think this game has in depth combat, but you would be mistaken. You start the game as a peasant that can hardly hold a sword, but you can quickly gain more strength/agility/warfare/defense/weapon skills and perks that add more depth to fighting. The progression feels really good to start because there is a noticeable difference after only a couple of hours of playing with how you can dominate fights that earlier would have killed you. Then you notice that the enemies are scaling with you. Those cool combos that you unlocked for your weapon of choice no longer work because the enemy just master strikes or perfect blocks you every other hit. Then you start waiting for enemies to attack you so that you can master strike and it just turns into a waiting game. Or you can just clinch an enemy to death in a corner. The combat starts out feeling really good, but then just devolves into every bandit you fight being a master combatant in plate armor. Some people in this game's community will try to say that different weapon types perform different jobs such as swords being very good against unarmored targets while maces are only good against armor. I would like to disagree very much, seeing as how I could 1-3 shot most enemies wearing plate armor with my longsword from halfway through the game till the end. If you want to breeze through the game's combat even more easy, just use a bow. Archery is so mind-boggingly easy and overpowered that if you are in any way accurate, you can 1 shot any enemy in the game from the very beginning. I think the combat in this game has a lot of potential, but it just doesn't fully deliver on any aspect and I can only assume was rushed in production.

Sneaking and thieving are very under powered, until they aren't. For some reason there is a weird wall right at the beginning of level up sneaking where you can't hide from anybody, and then you level up a couple of times and all of a sudden you are Batman. Some missions that require sneaking or stealing are made completely trivial by having a decently leveled sneaking and lockpicking skill because for some reason after a certain level, people can't see you at all anymore when you are crouched. Many times I was able to knock out/stealth kill/pickpocket NPCs right in front of others and they wouldn't react or would just walk away. Combine this with having near infinite wealth from lockpicking stores and you can break the game's economy very early and easily. That being said, you can break this game's economy just by walking on the road right outside of town and killing the 6 bandits wearing full Milanese plate, put their gear on your horse and then go back to town and selling it for more groschen than the lords make in a year.

My next point is mostly just a nitpick, but sometimes it really frustrated the hell out of me. Why can Henry take a bath and get his clothes laundered, just to walk 20 feet down the street and be absolutely covered in dirt? Take a bath, immediately get on your horse after you leave the time skip screen so you don't have to touch the ground and ride directly to the spot you need to go and dismount so you can interact or talk with someone. Did you touch the dirt on the side of the road when you got off the horse? Instantly covered in ♥♥♥♥, piss, and blood. Everyone comments on how much you stink and look like you got the piss beat out of you. With that being said, the layered clothing/armor system in this game is a really good system I hope carries over into more games. Being able to wear a gambeson underneath mail which is in turn underneath plate is cool and I've always been a big fan of games that implement it.

This all leads me to the biggest problem I have with this game: constant crashing and game breaking bugs. They still exist, and they still suck. I finished my first and last playthrough with 102.2 hours recorded on steam. In game my save only has 72.8 hours on it. I'll admit that I save scummed a little bit in this game, so we'll be generous and say that I lost 8 hours of game time due to restarting when things went wrong. That still leaves a whopping 21.4 hours of game time that I lost completely due to the game crashing or bugging out before I could save again. This wouldn't be a problem in most other games because of things like auto-saving or just being able to save on the fly, but the only way you can do that in this game is by using an in-game item called Savior Schnapps, or by exiting the game completely which will save it. Alternatively, you can save the game by sleeping in certain beds. I can only guess how many times I finished a quest and wanted to save afterward, but had already used all of my Savior Schnapps and didn't want to have to exit the game completely to save. All of that progress only to be on the way to a merchant to buy more schnapps or to a bed to sleep just for my game to crash, rendering everything I had just done void. Please for the love of God just let me save when I want to in KCD2.
