I saw your question about the BR bear in the forums. That bear despawning if only partially harvested is a bug that's been around for at least a year or so now (the devs haven't acknowledged it, so I doubt a fix is forthcoming). The only workaround I know of is to quarter it, or harvest all you want from it in one go.

message me if you would like some inside tips on how to play Subsistence. I have over 2000 hours in the game now so I pretty well know how to play. Playing coop with another person does make the game easier and you progress a lot faster.
