After having almost 200 hours in Worlds Adrift I was disappointed when the game shut down. Granted I wasn't a fan of the hyper aggressive PVPers/Seal clubbers(if you know you know) so that was no great loss to me on that front. No, what I was disappointed about the most was the potential behind the game and what it could have been being wasted.

So you can imagine my surprise when I discovered Lost Skies and what Bossa Studios was trying to do this time around. The absence of Worlds Adrift left a hole that I never thought would be filled again. Now here we are on the edge of something amazing. Even though it's only been six years it feels like Worlds Adrift never left. Stepping foot into the game, even as just a demo, I felt like I was returning home from a long journey.

Even though it's a demo, it's very well made and I can't wait for the game's official release date to be announced. I met one of my best friends in Worlds Adrift and we're still friends to this day. I can't wait to plunge into this game and begin anew.

I originally recommended this game. I was so excited for it that I sold off a bunch of old consoles and games to put money together to get my fiancee and myself the gold editions. These were marketed as "all future dlcs/the first four seasons".

Now we're in season 2 and Saber Interactive pulled the rug out from under myself and from the discussions, many others who also bought into it. Legitimately scammed us and nothing is being said about it. I hadn't played in a while because I was letting content build up. Started playing again recently and noticed this today while playing that there was dlc which I didn't have the ability to unlock because I needed to pay for it. I shelled out for two copies of this game and now you want more money from me to get access to what YOU marketed to us as being available to those that bought your stupid "Ultra/Gold Editions".

Screw you Saber Interactive.

After a whole year and some change, I'm updating this review yet again.

The game is fun with friends and occasionally you'll bump into some decent randoms. The accidental deaths, the chaos, and the cinematic moments are all quite nice. It's amazing they gave us this game on an engine that is now no longer supported.

That's where the praise stops for me.

I now have 467 hours on record. This game is like an abusive relationship and the developers try their best to not make it that way, but they have this uncanny ability to give us what we want without giving us what we want. The core elements of the game are fun but the game itself is not very optimized. It pushes your CPU pretty hard and I've personally had numerous screen freezes over my time playing. (I have an intel i7 12700F and a RTX 3060 with 32GB of RAM for the record)

By all accounts I shouldn't have any issues but I do and so do some of my friends who have much more up to date hardware. Supposedly this game and it's anti-cheat are a bane on people's PCs but the developers and CEO downplay the seriousness of it all. I can't verify one way or another if it's the game, the anti-cheat, Windows 11, or all of the above creating some kind of catastrophic potential in people's hardware. I'd put my money on all of the above.

I wish this game were on a different engine because it seems like with every update the optimization gets worse or something breaks and people are forced to wait for a bandaid patch. All the while we live in paranoia wondering if this game will brick our PCs or something.

My original review was negative and posted back in 2022, and it had a lot to do with character creation and the class system or lack thereof. Two years later the game is in a much better state than what it was then.

(TLDR; The character creation has features that are pointless and need to be trimmed/or made to have purpose and character classes were lackluster and need variety.)

The classes now actually feel like classes and you can select perks in the tree and change them at will for free. The weapon mastery aspect is weird to me but I understand it now at least. Essentially they got rid of the need to sacrifice weapons to obtain blessings and instead the more you use a weapon the more you master it and can unlock and level up blessings.

Honestly I enjoy the game a lot more than I did two years ago. Plus, the QOL mods that are out there give the game more life. This is just my personal opinion. I know many people like to keep their games pure and mod-free. Which is perfectly fine. The game is plenty fun without them.

The only negative thing I have to say is the repetitive nature of the game at times. They are adding content as time progresses so there are new things to do.

It really is a shame how this game turned out. When it first fell on my radar upon it's initial release on steam, the devs had a lot of great ideas and even a webpage with a timeline chart showing what they were planning on doing. Originally there was to be a multitude of races with their own unique traits that hindered or enabled them in various environments, as well as a class/profession system. I stopped playing early on once I ran out of things to do and I decided to hunker down and wait.

Now, after three years of checking in occasionally, I see that nothing has really changed. The worlds are dead, the playerbase feels more lifeless than it was when the game first came out into alpha, and the exciting features I had so looked forward too are still nowhere to be seen. It truly is sad because the game is vibrant and pretty with potential to be more but like most other voxel-type games it just falls short of wherever it was trying to land.

Admittedly I don't know what happened within the studio, or if any changes in leadership occurred, and I'm fully aware that game development is never easy. However, it's been a year since I last played and looking at things now, I can say that nothing has changed. If you have a group of friends to play with, you're all bored and want something vibrant, and it's on a massive sale (currently it's 85% off at the time of writing this review landing it at 6.00USD when it sits at 40.00USD) then knock yourselves out.

Personally though for $39.99 I can't recommend anyone buying this game as there's very little to do. Maybe if you're easily entertained or just have a voxel fetish then you'll be able to find some entertainment in this.

I don't usually write reviews but I felt like for this game I needed to do so. I hope that what follows will at least help people make a decision on whether or not to buy this game.

This game is fun. I wish this was all that needed to be said, but as I'm sure some of you have seen or heard this is a game of, "buts," and promises left hanging (there are also a considerable amount of bugs but at least this was expected to some extent).

So lets start with the beginning - character creation. It's not as "deep" as it was proclaimed to be by CDPR and it's marketing. It has some unique areas that other games haven't touched and then there are your generic choices. However, aside from this you do not get as much freedom as some (myself included) would like. Your options are prescribed by CDPR in the form of sliders with at most 30 options for hair and eyes and that's it. Everything else is very minimalistic when you consider how CDPR lauded over how "deep" their character creation aspect was. I'm not saying the character creator is bad, but for people who were hoping for Fallout levels of customization or maybe even Nioh 2 levels then they will be disappointed. For myself I was hoping for a little more variety but a lot of the choices just feel lazy.

Next we have your character's beginning and the choices you make. Aside from some specific missions your choices don't matter (something which CDPR spoke highly of). There is nothing you can do to change the path of the beginning act to perhaps play out differently; which is something we were eluded to believe being possible. On all life paths, apart from your opening sequence where you meet Jackie, you still wind up with the same outcome no matter what you do. This is another aspect which I found disappointing. Your life paths all wind up in the same situation with no deviation in sequence or alternative montage cutscenes of you running the streets with Jackie. It feels lazy and underdeveloped in my personal opinion. The only life path that I felt fitting of the following sequences after meeting Jackie and completing your intro quest was the Nomad. You still get the same sequence after, "The Rescue," and you're still fed the same dialogue, music, and boring drive through the city to your apartment. They may as well have cut out all but one of the life paths and focused their time on polishing that one experience just because of how little difference there is in all three. Lastly you can't influence your V's personality. Your character acts the same, sounds the same, walks the same, and so on no matter from which life path you chose. My advice to players is pick one path and just play that to your heart's content. There's little next to nothing to experience that's different in the other paths save the starting "mission".

Next we have the romances. For those who were expecting a variety of romanceable characters to be present, there is only a small handful of characters to romance and prostitutes to interact with. Each character has their preference so the body you choose and so on will determine which character (specifically the hetero kind) you will get to romance. I haven't really done anything with this one save for Stout (who is bisexual) and Judy (who's not interested in men or masculine bodies). If you want a more detailed explanation into this facet of the game you'll have to look elsewhere.

Another disappointing feature is the style of your character; the clothing you choose. I was honestly expecting more from this especially when shopping at stores. I imagined going to stores in the different districts, finding their local styles for sale and choosing the outfits which I wanted and getting to select how they look (cause after all when you go to a store to buy clothes you have color options right?). Boy was I kicked in the ass on this one. I won't lie, I'm a fashion ♥♥♥♥♥. I like dressing up my characters and making them look badass, sexy, etc (but what rpg player doesn't?). Instead you get this weird RNG system where the shops sell different clothing at different points in time and none of it is customizable, changeable, or etc. What you see in the shops is what you get and you're forced to choose what clothing you want to wear based on stats rather than style (unless you're a hording loot goblin that invested in Engineer and you scrap everything for resources - yes I'm talking about myself and others like me - you know who you are). Barring the loot goblin path of collecting resources, if you haven't invested in that tree and don't collect resources much save for consumables and ammo, you'll be stuck with a character looking like they were homeless and went to a thrift store to buy whatever they could wear.

The main storyline is short and is really only offset by all the sidequests to do in order to earn resources, exp, and gear. Which, by the way, I'm still confused on to an extent because your Street Cred levels faster than your actual level - this keeps you from equipping better gear at times (someone explain please?). I've played 40 hours give or take so far and a lot of that was from doing side stuff to beef myself up before tackling the main storyline. Once I completed the storyline I went back to test the other lifepaths and this is where I found the flaws in the system. Once the flaws became apparent I decided to just screw around at my leisure to see how much mileage the game can net you.

Lastly driving in this game feels like you need a controller to get the most enjoyment out of or the ability to steer with your mouse as keyboard steering feels awkward and clumsy. There is definitely a variety in the vehicle handling but the driving still comes down to the same awkward and clumsy feeling especially when driving in the crowded bits. You're better off fast traveling, running, or getting a motorcycle. For those of you expecting a Cyber GTA V you will be disappointed. Running into other vehicles feels like playing bumper cars at times as vehicles bounce away from each other with no real impact apart from the sound of crunch metal. Vehicle damage is lackluster at best and I've only been launched once off of my motorcycle while driving any other time you either go over the vehicles with a ridiculous bounce or they bounce away from you.

All in all the game is flawed but fun. I know this review sounds negative but these are the glaring areas I feel like people need to be made aware of if they had high expectations. I'm not finding myself overly addicted like I was hoping I'd be but I have been able to enjoy myself playing this game. If you come in with zero expectations I'm sure you'll find enjoyment too. For those like myself who were expecting more, there is a mixed feeling of disappointment and joy. We waited for almost 8 years and suffered through 4 delays and this is what we got. I know the Witcher 3 wasn't perfect at launch but at least it's meat and potatoes were done right. I'm glad the wait is over and I'm able to enjoy this game but there's a displeasing and sour taste in my mouth when the reality sets in on occasion. This game, albeit isn't a disaster like No Man's Sky or Anthem, falls short of many people's expectations and the promises CDPR themselves made are nowhere to be seen or lackluster at best.

I know I haven't covered all of the areas but these were the areas I feel like players interested in this game were most interested about. There's still enjoyment to be had in this game and maybe after some crucial updates it will change but this is your only warning.

I crashed a lot in the beginning. I still crash even now and I've figured out most of the controls. The game is beautiful and the concept is awesome. It can be a bit daunting because the gameplay is centered around reflex in some areas but once you get into the zone and master driving it gets easier. The first person view is even crazier than the third person and personally I find it easier to control my car, from the first person view, even though having spacial awareness from this view is a bit difficult. All in all it's a awesome game. The music gets you pumped once it gets going. I feel like this game is a hell child born from a threesome Rocket League(with it's car jumping mechanics and boosts), Burnout(because it's the only game I can recall that's environment could really bone you over) and Tron.

9/10 Would crash into lasers again.

So for a game that's really only being made by one individual(major props to Nelson Sexton keep it up mate!) it's future looks bright. It's mechanics are nice and even now I still find myself playing the 2.0 version along with the beta 3.0. It's a fun game to get into with your friends though I'm not bing on playing on servers so I can't say much about the multiplayer community. My friends and I use hamachi usually and host our own servers. Either way the game is a lot of fun and the fact that it has so much more potential to offer is really great. Something that started out as nothing has steadily become something. Once 3.0 is out I really see myself getting into this game even more.

Ahhh.....once again I have a biased view. Some of you out there may not necessarily find this game appealing, and some may have just grown impatient waiting. This game has its pros and cons. Currently the cons is just the agonizing wait for the 3.0 version to arrive. I haven't extensively tried multiplayer but while hosting my own servers with my friends I have noticed clipping with vehicles, rubberbanding friends, zombies landing hits while appearing further away than they are. The list is small and not of any major concern entirely, just minor annoyances. Singplayer runs smoothly as far as I can tell, and I'm running on a Dell intel core i3 laptop with Windows 8.1. It is by NO means a gaming laptop.

So with that all being said, would I recommend this game? Yes, yes I would. It's free to play and you've got nothing to really lose.

Okay for starters before I carry on with this review, I am extremely biased simply because I love underwater and oceanic enviroments. Throwing in an alien water world that you've crash landed on and are forced to survive and gather resources while trying to explore this beautiful and unforgiving world is just CHEATING. I love alien planets and aliens damn it. So with that being said I can't write a unbiased review because of this. HOWEVER, I can say for certainty that this game has amazing potential. Even with it being in alpha a lot of the core gaming aspects are already in, but I'm sure there's more to come in the future. The game is highly addictive and can be kind of unnerving when you come into an open ocean area that's 100meters deep and you're unable to see the bottom.

Worst thing to happen when I played this game. Had my surround sound headphones on and was playing at 2:30am and the in-game ambience switched to night time. It is not fun to be rushing back to your lifepod at night in 130meter deep water and all you see is deep dark blue beneath you and you hear some ECHOING #&%#&%# SEA CREATURES CALL. I nearly crapped myself because I was in my own little world playing for the first time, praying that leviathan creature in the reveal trailer wasn't in-game yet.

I recommend anyone reading this to sincerely consider giving this game a shot. I don't blame you if you're sketchy on the price tag, but look at it as investing in the game and helping the Devs by funding this amazing game and helping to push it towards it's finished state. I wish more people were interested in it but with it being alpha I guess it's to be expected. It has a lot of potential and I think once it's closer towards the end of alpha state that maybe the Devs might implement a multiplayer? That seems like a major thing contributing to a lot of games out there these days and who doesn't want to sh%# themselves with their friends as ole' mister Leviathan comes creeping out of the deep blue sea to eat your tiny a$$e$? Okay... Maybe that's not a good thing but hey, you'd get a good amount of laughing and crying as you start singing "Just keep swimming, Just keep swimming" in a frantic tone to try and ease your combined panic?

9/10 Would crap myself again.
