This game is truly unique and interesting.

TLDR: (Yes... most of this opening description is from the wiki, they do a really good job of describing the game.)

Foxhole is a massively multiplayer game where you work with thousands of other humans to influence the outcome of a persistent online war between two factions: the Colonials and the Wardens. The game is set somewhere in the middle of WW1 and WW2.

Life is fragile, and you are not a hero. You're not even a side character; you are simply a cog in a very large machine. Every bullet, every weapon, every vehicle, and every structure has been manufactured or built by other soldiers like you.

Actual review

Personal experience

There is so much to explore in this game that I simply haven't had the time to do everything, especially solo. With that being said, I've tried everything: from frontline combat with strangers screaming in pain as their newly made war buddy got blown to bits by enemy artillery when he left our trench and charged toward the enemy, to being part of carefully planned war operations with different clans working together to push forward and regain control of important cities.

I've hauled weapons, ammo, and gas masks from our production facilities to the front line. I've helped design and construct bunker bases for players to spawn in and use to defend against the encroaching enemy threat. I've been behind enemy lines, blowing up bridges and sabotaging enemy logistics to suffocate their front line. It has been a lot of fun.

More cool stuff

As I said previously, there is so much to do in this game, and every little aspect goes surprisingly deep. You could spend thousands of hours on one very specific part of the game and still not know everything. It's practically impossible to know everything about the game, which is why it's so important to remember that you are still just a cog in the machine. You cannot do everything anything alone, and it makes for a fantastic gameplay experience. Let's look at using a tank as an example:

Someone has mined the resources used for refining into the basic components that make up that tank, its fuel, and its ammunition.
Someone has also constructed the facility where the tank was manufactured.
Someone has produced the resources used to spawn you in, as well as your binoculars, gas mask, hammer, and materials to repair the tank.

Great, now you can get into the tank, but you can't really do much. You quickly figure out that the tank needs three soldiers to be operated optimally: The driver controls the tank's movements. The gunner controls the cannon. The commander commands the tank and preferably uses binoculars to relay information to the gunner and driver about enemy vehicles outside their field of view.

Oh, and one more thing: you also need infantry with you. A tank without infantry backing it up will very quickly get swarmed, gassed, and, if you're lucky, blown to bits. If not, your corpses will be removed, and the tank will be repurposed for use by the enemy.

Quickfire cool features

-Massive 24/7 persistent war (usually at least 1,500 players per faction).
-Top-down-ish perspective (it looks cool :3).
-Unlimited roles to get immersed in: Combat, Logistics, Production, Facilities, Naval warfare, Bunker bases, and more.
-Cool community with many clans.
-In-game voice chat, which is especially great on the front line.
-Extremely player-driven gameplay.
-Asymmetric symmetry: Both factions are very different and asymmetric,
leading to very interesting fights.
-Still actively being developed <3.

Bad stuff

Some people argue that the game has a very toxic community, but, to be honest, it's really easy to avoid those people. Personally, in my 250 hours of playtime, I've never really engaged with any toxic players.

Gameplay balancing:
TLDR: People yap about it, but it doesn't really matter for the average player.

In my opinion, the game is well-balanced, especially considering how difficult balancing asymmetric factions must be. Players from both factions complain about something being broken or claim the other faction gets better treatment. From my personal observations, it feels like the Colonials have an early advantage with better rifles and equipment, but the Wardens get the upper hand later in the war.

If there's one thing that seems unbalanced, it would be the naval equipment, where the Colonial ships are just slightly worse. Overall, the gameplay is balanced well enough that the average player wouldn't notice much.

Quick note: There is generally one server that the war takes place on (Able server shard). However, the actual map is divided into 45 server regions called hexes, so their servers don't explode.

Impact on my rating

-Truly unique, one-of-its-kind gameplay - (10/10)
-Art style and graphics - (7/10)
-Community and player base - (7/10)
-Depth of features - (9/10)
-Polish - (7/10)
-Servers and population cap... (5/10)

4/5 stars :3

core gameplay mechanics are pretty fun. movement is solid and actually feels very nice.

it gets boring after one or two hours tho

game needs:

more unique weapons
more diverse enemies
balanced weapons
more maps

and the biggest one is a PvP map that would be incredible

i feel like this with some 1v1 and 2v2 and some csgo ♥♥♥♥ would be very nice

game just needs some more work.

good game
