The firm will have no competition for a product and no substitutes for people to switch to so the quality of the product may be reduced and the firm may have low costs of production.

Monopolies will have low costs of production because they benefit from economies of scale which means that when purchasing goods from the firm it will be in large amounts.

The monopoly may be too big and have diseconomies of scale meaning they will have high costs of production meaning that each time the firm grows so will the costs of production

Monopolies are single firms that have no other competition so they may lose money frequently because running a monopoly company is difficult.
