I use a controller yeah, you basically need to rebind it for quick movement though or it's very fumbly. I suggest swapping Y with R2, try giving that a shot instead so you don't have to move your thumbs off the sticks for combat.
The demo is also sort of horrendous if you ask me. It gives you a really inefficient map, essentially no instruction time, a scenario from the middle of the game with an non-upgraded soldier and a handful of lazy tutorial slides. It's really not a good example of what the game is like at all.
