ok last thing. but what people fundamentally need to get through their heads is the significance of gaza fundraisers not being the same as like mutual aid when you're helping someone get groceries, because it is a genocide. there is insane deliberate scarcity and prices are unmanageable, because there is nowhere nearly enough for everyone, so only people who can pay can eat. and what positioning individual fundraisers as the only course of action does is quite simply give a tiny percentage of random people whose fundraisers take off the ability to pay those prices while thousands of others can't. and every one of those thousands of people without a fundraiser is suffering through the same inconceivably horrific reality. it is giving a few completely desperate people out of hundreds of thousands a slightly more favorable position in a horrific war economy of imposed scarcity. and what grassroots community kitchens do is try to mitigate in some small way that inconceivable hierarchy of who can pay and who can't, by stretching ingredients as far as they can last to cook meals at large scale and give them out at no cost. and obviously people are still going to send money to their friends and families because this is hell what else are we supposed to do but please just think about that before promoting endless individual fundraisers as somehow the most ethical way to help

Operation Olive Branch has a spreadsheet dedicated to mutual aid, local distro, community kitchens, etc. in Gaza.

This is a good place to start if seeking to donate to a community resilience action. Just contact the group(s) directly to make sure they are still active. Life in Gaza and Palestine is full of uncertainty.

I don't have the time and energy to vet the people who come into my inbox with fundraisers. So I'm gonna repost this once a day instead.

[ID: screenshot of a twitter post by user gelrdrgz with a screenshot of a document containing a drawing of a rudimentary trap (a wooden box propped up by a stick with a rope tied around it, such that the box will fall when the rope is pulled) next to a photo of a cat under a cardboard box. The images are beneath the text "If he's just entirely too amped and won't settle the fuck down, the secret is to just put a box over him. He's like a bird and will just go to sleep. You can also prop it up like a cartoon trap and he will just slide on in there. We call this 'going into his office.'" The screenshot of the document is captioned "leaving instructions for the catsitter." End ID.]

This is a very interesting article which highlights not only the existential threat that chytrid fungus poses to amphibians (it has wiped out 90 species already), but also the ethical dilemma around synthetic biology, in which organisms have genetic material introduced or deleted, for example in the hope of increasing disease resistance.

Also, I would be remiss if I did not say that there is an incredibly cute picture of two frogs sharing one of the 'mini-saunas', an intervention which has already helped Australian green and golden bell frogs face off the chytrid fungus threat.

Due to the internet blackout in Iran, it's still difficult to completely verify everything, but several sources are confirming this. If this is true, this means that the regime has captured and sentenced an innocent person to die within a few weeks at most.

Say his name to save his life. Don't let him die, and don't let the regime think it can get away with murdering people who just want freedom and dignity. For those of you who aren't Iranian, pressure your governments to take strong decisive action against the regime like recalling ambassadors, halting business deals with the regime, and proscribing the IRGC.

the man who owns and runs the thai restaurant in my town knows me by name. he is one of the kindest and most thoughtful men i know. i started ordering from his place back in january, which was when i got my fibromyalgia diagnosis. back then i was using a walker, had limited mobility in my entire body but especially my hands, and was very visibly in pain. i always ordered the same thing: yellow curry with no meat, potatoes and carrots only (i have texture and other dietary issues). he always made it a point to make sure i could get out the door and carry the food safely. he had his workers package the food so that it was easier for me to open. as i kept coming back and i told him a little bit about my health status, he would always encourage me to keep going. he told me about how the spices he used were good for inflammation and began to edit the recipe just for me so that spices that were even better for fighting inflammation were used. he’d give me extra portions and despite the fact that i would tip every time, i realized later that he never charged my card for them. as time went on and my condition began to get better, especially with the help of a physical therapist, he would make encouraging remarks and tell me how happy he was for me. the day i came in without my walker, he practically jumped for joy, and despite my insistence, he gave me my meal for free that day. i continue to make progress with my conditions and i continue to go to the thai place. this man who does not know me personally and who i hardly know anything about is one of my favorite people. it’s interactions with humans like these that make loving life easier. and his curry really does help my chronic condition. it’s comfort food taken to the next level.
