She/her. 25+ followers only. Pro-ship. If you're an anti, block me now. This purpose of this blog is to inform, entertain, and persuade. (And by "persuade," I mean "getting people into my rarepairs.") Writing blog: dreaminonao3. Welcome to my thought processes, please watch your step. :)
I’m a fic writer (@dreaminonao3) and I have a full-time job, so I’m not nearly as prolific a writer as I’d like to be.
I’m over 40, though you’d be forgiven for thinking I’m half that by how enthusiastic I get about my fandoms. :)
I’m a nonpracticing Catholic and I have a lot of issues with the Church. (I’m pro-choice. Despite what the Church says, thoughtcrimes are definitely NOT sins. And a few other issues.) At this point, I doubt I’ll ever be back in the Church’s good graces, but then it’ll never be back in mine either, so we’re even.
Besides being raised Catholic, I was raised in a conservative Republican household. 2016-2020 really opened my eyes about how wrong the GOP is, though I was starting to see the light before then. I now vote Democrat but I’m currently still registered as a Republican and I will change it to Democrat when I move. I’m in a very red state but my current county is becoming more and more blue with each passing election year.
I’m very pro-ship. Write whatever you want, just tag it appropriately. Depiction ≠ glorification. Fictional characters are not real people, so you can do anything you want to them since you are not hurting a real person. Fiction is not required to give any moral lessons (or any other kind of lessons, for that matter).
I’m self-diagnosed as having mild ADHD. It’s not enough to ruin my life but it really shows in my attention span when it comes to what fandom(s) I’m currently obsessed with and how long that obsession lasts. Thankfully, most fandoms I move away from circle back eventually. It also explains why most of my fics are either short one-shots or multi-chaps I take forever to finish (if I finish them at all).
I’m an adult and I sometimes curse. You know, “adult language.” Got a problem with that? Block me.
I love rarepairs, non-canon ships, and canon/oc ships. After being in various fandoms for over twenty years, I’m at the point where I don’t trust show/movie writers to not fuck up canon ships. Give me the ships no canon can sink. ;)
The most amazing thing to me about Jane Austen is that she staunchly refuses to leave any woman behind. It doesn’t matter if a woman is an antagonist, a side character, or what, the reader is assured that they will be okay. This is so different from fiction at the time or even now.
Marianne Dashwood, living a plot perfect for a tragic death by illness to preserve the beauty of her first attachment and disappointment? Nope, she lives and loves with her whole heart again. Maria Rushworth, the fallen woman who cheated on her husband does not die for her crimes or even fall into poverty or prostitution, her father and Aunt Norris will provide for her. She is punished, but she’s protected. Lydia Bennet? Her two sisters will provide for her for the rest of her life. Her husband’s debt will not destroy her. Miss Bates? There is an entire community around her no matter what happens and her newly rich niece will provide. No woman is even left as a governess, Miss Taylor is Mrs. Weston, Jane Fairfax becomes Mrs. Churchill instead. Mrs. Smith is pulled out of her indigent state by Anne and Wentworth.
The only woman Jane Austen allows to suffer a terrible fate is off-page and dead long before the novel begins: Eliza Brandon. Eliza Williams, her mother’s affair baby, is ruined by Willoughby. Colonel Brandon could easily have washed his hands of her and her affair child, but he doesn’t. Eliza Williams is going to be okay. Her child will be okay.
Antagonist women never fall into poverty or die for their crimes, most of them are even in loving marriages. Fanny Dashwood is cruel to her mother and sisters-in-law, one could imagine her falling low in karmic retribution, but no, she’s fine. Lady Susan, the delightful anti-heroine, marries a baronet at the end of her novel. No punishment looms on the horizon for her promiscuity and deception. Caroline Bingley has a loving family that will never turn her away and an independent fortune. Mary Crawford has a loving sister. Isabella Thorpe may have lost the big prize, but she has her mother. Never is a woman thrown to abuse or poverty, even when they have attacked other women. The only punishment would come from their own conscience or regret for the goodness they have thrown away.
Jane Austen somehow imagines a world where even the worst women are safe.
Wait, there’s physical copies of Fallout Equestria? That’d have to be massive.
The first run was five hardbacks of progressively increasing girth. The stack is hefty, but the books are comfortable. Each chapter has chapter art too, which I consider a plus in all fantasy books.
Later runs were single-book softcover monstrosities. I think I saw another five-volume hardback run recently, but I’m not deeply involved in the fandom anymore.
The second print run was two volumes, hardback, with jackets. Dunno about any subsequent runs.
I still think the 5-volume split was the best option. It’s a big damn story.
(For anyone who hasn’t read it: yes, that’s a functional replica of the main character’s go-to weapon. No, I didn’t customize it like that; I bought it from the person who did.)
anon PLEASE tell me your teacher is the author of this
Ok, I Kind of hate that I know this, but I’m pretty sure that anon’s teacher did NOT write the books the others are showing off. He wrote the darker, edgier and somehow even longer fanfic OF that fanfic called Project Horizons.
Original Fallout Equestria was written by someone known as Kkat who I’m 90% sure is a woman and the story only has some PG-13ish scenes at worst (you know, aside from the violence and gore that comes with a Fallout setting.) Project Horizons was written by a guy known as Somber, who I remember him mentioning in the post-chapter notes that he got fired for failing the wrong student once and the fic itself includes multiple explicit sex scenes.
it’s important to me u know what the 3rd printing looks like. please note the gilded pages
one of tumblr’s secret trump cards is its ability to deliver absolutely OBLITERATING gut punches like this post without any context or warning whatsoever
my unpopular opinion is that i hate tiktok because now people just publicly watch loud ass videos in public spaces with no regard for anyone else. 100% it was not this bad with youtube, it’s such a different thing with tiktok. put on headphones. you are grown.
Girl……
This is it! This is what social media/smart tech have done! They’ve rotted away any distinction between private and public.
Yes, we do have the right to make demands on public behavior. Of course we do. Have you never heard of laws and etiquette? I’m not allowed to grocery shop naked. You can’t rummage through my purse. I can’t have a work meeting in the middle of a movie theatre.
I remember when it was taboo simply to answer your cell phone in public. The person answering would apologize and try to go to a more private area. Then public calls were normalized. Then putting people on speaker. Then listening to music without headphones. Do you know how many times I have hiked up a mountain or driven to the beach, only to be met with someone blaring shitty top 40 music from their portable speaker, because Heaven forbid you go one hour without noise?
Old woman yells at cloud and all that, but I can’t believe someone is not only admitting this behavior, but saying it’s a good thing! No one likes you! You’re a menace!
