I can’t speak for other social media webbed sites but I really enjoy how tumblr seems to just completely spin a wheel on whatever media is hot right now. Like yeah sometimes it’s a new show that’s big and actively coming out but also sometimes there will be a solid month where half my dash is Columbo memes. Defy authority. Get really into an book from the 1800s. Watch shows that haven’t aired in 40 years. Celebrate the anniversary of the Boston Molasses Flood. Become unmarketable
I still find it really baffling the way people now apparently feel the need to run their headcanons by the source material creator as if that gives them more legitimacy or whatever. You don’t need author approval! You can just think the thing!
And sometimes we can’t give approval, because your headcanon directly contradicts what we’re about to do in the canon, and we don’t want to lie to you! I had someone get angry with me because a familial connection that had been planned from the very beginning of the story meant that their “and they were lovers” headcanon suddenly meant incest! Like, no, I don’t secretly ship those people! I can’t!
Please don’t ask us to approve. We don’t want to upset you and we don’t want to lie to you, and sometimes those are our only choices.
