080 THE STORY SO FAR
The critically-acclaimed superhero series returns this February and it's never been easier to get caught up
Hey everyone, welcome to 2025.
As I’m sure you’re all aware, it’s been a brutal week here in Los Angeles. So many people have lost everything, friends included, and the destruction has been at a level that’s really hard to comprehend. I lived on the west side for 8 years— the Pacific Palisades being completely wiped out is something I’m still trying to get my head around. Talking to friends and colleagues who have lost their homes, who don’t know where they’re going to go or what they’re going to do… it’s all heartbreaking.
On Wednesday night, Alec Siegel texted me to turn on the news— a fire had broken out at Runyon Canyon and was spreading fast. We live quite close to Runyon, a hair outside of the official evacuation zone, but not by much. My girlfriend grew up in Australia at the foothills of an area known for bush fires and we weren’t going to wait around. As she likes to say, “if you can walk to the fire, you need to get out.”
We packed the car with everything we could, loaded the cat in his carrier, and made a plan to stay with friends in Orange County.
The roads were packed but we moved quick enough and were able to get out before it was total gridlock. Fortunately, what’s been dubbed the Sunset Fire has been contained and we made it back to our apartment on Thursday.
But, as of this writing, the Eaton fire is not contained and the Palisades fire is only about 6% contained, continuing to spread up the coast. The winds have died down considerably since Wednesday morning but are expected to pick up again over the weekend. We’re all bracing for what’s to come, knowing we’re not out of the proverbial woods yet and grateful for all the dedicated LAFD firefighters as well as the scores of firefighters who have come in from outside of LA and California.
For anyone looking for ways to help or places to donate to, LAist has a collection of links that I’ll include right here. I’d also like to call special attention to comics’ artist Andrew Robinson, who lost his home and everything he owns in the Altadena fire. There’s a GoFundMe currently running to help him and his family.
We’re going to keep today’s newsletter brief. With everything going on, it doesn’t feel great trying to talk about “all the exciting things!” we have coming up. That said, I also know the power of distraction— especially in challenging times. So, I wanted to highlight something fun that we’re making available to everyone for free.
On Wednesday, in addition to Moon Man #6 hitting stores and kicking off a new story arc, we also released another comic—this one was a surprise.
Radiant Black - The Story So Far is a free 16 page TLDR recap of the first 30 issues (it’s really 35 after Catalyst War) ahead of February’s Radiant Black Rebuild that kicks off with issue 31.
But if you didn’t manage to snag a copy from stores, don’t worry— we’re making it available to you, digitally, right here.
“Have you heard about our immersive superhero series and been meaning to give it a shot? Or maybe you were an early reader but fell off?
This February, Radiant Black enters a bold new era and we’ve got the perfect way for you to catch up.”
One other thing to flag, either for yourself or any friends who might want to check out the series— for a limited time you can also get all 6 volumes of the series for 15% off ahead of issue 31.
Okay, that’s going to do it for me today. Next week, we’ll come back with a proper newsletter talking about all the big things for this year. But until then— be kind to each other and let’s all stay safe out there.
And without further ado, I hop you enjoy Radiant Black - The Story So Far.

Thanks for sharing the GoFundMe link!
Kyle, I would love to see you and Justin Jacobson of Restoration Games get together and make a Massive-Verse set of fighters for the Unmatched board game. It would truly make my life. With the cooperative sets they are making now on top of competitive sets, the 4 radiants and the catalyst war could EASILY make for a big box expansion to the game.
