Messaging people for the first time is so hard. What am I supposed to say? Like, “You seem really odd and your blog intrigues me. Do you want to have philosophical conversations or perhaps talk about fictional characters?” What! Whatever. I will just follow you back and stare at your blog with my big beautiful brown eyes.

Reblog if you’re okay with people coming into your DMs with the “you seem really odd and your blog intrigues me, do you want to have philosophical conversations or perhaps talk about fictional characters”

    No, but for real!

    Please do this. For real.

Maybe I’m a sucker with bad taste but lately I have been really into meeting tv shows where they are and I’m having a much nicer time. Like basically a show is only bad to me if it’s not fun and not compelling. Like it has to be shockingly bad AND unenjoyable for me to complain. But like I’m not going to call something like pretty little liars bad just because it’s a bit silly and some of the storylines are not ones I would have gone with because it’s fun! And I enjoy watching it! Like I see so much Posting that’s like ‘wow the writers of [show] have no idea what they’re doing’ and it’s like well it’s their job. And obviously you can be bad at your job but I think it’s worth questioning like is this writing bad or do I not like it. Especially because a lot of the time I find that criticism of tv shows is like, people being upset that there is conflict or tension. Maybe you don’t like that a couple broke up or a character died but that doesn’t make it bad writing necessarily. Or like when people are like wow the dialogue in this show is so unrealistic and it’s like well maybe that’s the point. The dialogue in succession is unrealistic but it’s incredibly effective and entertaining and people wouldn’t criticise it on those grounds the same way they might criticise the writing on a teen drama. Idk. I worry that I’m like lowering my standards for what makes ‘good’ tv but I think actually I’m just more attuned to what a show is trying to achieve and judging it based on whether or not it’s succeeding at what it set out to do and whether or not I like what it set to do. Rather than like expecting everything to be pitch perfect prestige television. And I’m having a much better time!

And like I find engaging critically with stuff and being a hater fun but like part of that is like not judging a soap opera like it’s an hbo show.

fascinated by this quora thread positing the bruce springsteen gay multiverse

Here are two academic papers this reminded me of, to add a little pinch of seasoning to our pondering:

Beyond blood brothers: queer Bruce Springsteen

    Sexual Mobilities in Bruce Springsteen
    Sexual Mobilities in Bruce Springsteen
    academia.edu

What I like about them is that they both sort of go ✋ “we do not, cannot, and do not WISH to know if Bruce Springsteen is gay. In fact, it does not matter. His work, however, is very gay.”

just made some chicken and rice burritos that turned out real good and I wanted to share. like literally finished them and immediately was like ‘I have to tell the people’

Rice Cooker Chicken and Rice Burritos, an Approximate Resippy

    Ingredience:

    • about 8 ounces of cooked, boneless chicken (this is about 2 cans, drained)
    • one rice cooker cup of rice (approximately ¾ of a cup)
    • half a packet worth of taco seasoning (about 1.5 tablespoons)
    • some chicken bullion (about one cube)
    • around tablespoon of chipotle powder (optional)
    • teaspoon ish of oil or margarine or butter for the rice
    • water
    • burrito flats (ETA: flour tortillas of a burrito size, sorry, I forgot this was weird terminology lol)
    • grated cheese (optional) (whatever you use for burritos or have on hand)
    • sour cream (optional)
    • enchilada sauce (optional) (you could also sub in taco bell sauce if you those packets on hand)

rinse rice in cold water until water runs clear, put in rice maker. fill to the correct line according to your rice maker (making one rice cooker cup should be fill to the first line, but I don’t know your rice maker)

optional: add about half again more water for extra mooshy rice. I know this is not everybody’s thing, but for me this gave it the texture like the grilled stuffed burritos from taco bell, and part of what made me go OOOH THIS IS GOOD was the texture. however, you do you.

add oil, taco seasoning, bullion, and you can also add some spice with chipotle powder if you want. If not, just leave it out. If you are using low salt seasoning and bullion, you may want to add a pinch of salt. if you’re using canned chicken, also add it now.

turn on your rice cooker and go do something else for a bit. come back when rice is done. my rice cooker takes around 30 minutes, I don’t know about yours.

heat chicken up in microwave, if you’re not using canned. stir chicken into rice.

warm up burrito flats and make burritos, topping with cheese, enchilada sauce, and sour cream to taste. for six inch burrito flats, the recipe will make approximately 12 burritos for me.

more notes below the cut, mostly me yappin in more detail, but I wanted to get the full recipe before the cut

honest to god, I thought burrito flats was a more widely understood term, but it’s possible it was unique to my ma, or maybe something she picked up from hers. they both passed away years ago, and the rest of my mom’s family has gotten vocally conservative in ways that makes me uncomfortable interacting with them, so it’ll have to remain a mystery.

I considered editing it out, but I think it’s worth preserving a linguistic quirk, and I’m only a little embarrassed that I’m using an apparently very unusual term. I learned something!

the important part: these burritos still fuck, and they were very easy to make.

oh when I reheat I put a cube of ice in the container and zap it for 2 minutes, but I break it down into portions that are around 8 ounces I would guess? about half a pint deli style plastic container

microwave times are gonna vary based on power and portion size but if you reheat rice you gotta add water of some kind, ice is a good way to do that. I don’t remember who I learned it from. if there’s still ice when your food is done just throw the ice in the sink to finish melting.

this reheats really really well imo, and honestly might be a good option for a make ahead frozen burrito that you heat up in an air fryer, that’s just not how I tend to handle meal prep. if someone tries that let me know how it goes! I still think this is pretty impressive for some bullshit I threw together whilst distracted and talking to my dad, it was really easy to make

    “Madeleine Silarjuangat”

This is the last large solar system I made. I created it for a custom order so I personalised it with my client who offered it to his wife for her birthday last year ♥️
This embroidery is called “Madeleine Silarjuangat”, which means “Madeleine’s world” in Inuit. My client lives in Canada, he wanted to name his embroidery after his wife, the Inuit language has a rich history of stars and legends about life above.
    Thank you again Kirt!

I hope to have more opportunities like this to create more unique and custom orders, it is always very interesting and challenging for me to have to work directly for a client.
