im constructing this in my mind. Marcille is the server who is constantly crying in the walk in or outside by the dumpsters. Senshi lives in a van that is like light blue or something and has an eagle and a dolphin painted on the left and right sides and has a plot in the community garden. Hes a humanure guy (its a secret so he doesn’t get kicked out of the community garden) (hes big into it though). He’s a career line cook multiple times they’ve tried to bump him up even though his sense of urgency sucks when hes not cooking and his love of food would prevent him from doing any managing and hes always like “aye thats mighty kind of you. I’m happy on the line.” “But we would double your pay” “aye well that’s mighty kind of you. I’m happy on the line”

I need senshi in a beard net and marcille crytyping in the walk in on a rose gold iphone in a sparkly pink case (i know she reeks of lush products) because chilichuck got passive aggressive with her about her skimping on her sidework (she hates cleaning the bathroom OKAY?!?) while laios accidentally abandons falin to the dishpit mid rush because senshi offered to teach him how to trim steaks. Falins kitchen position is subject to change im only on like chapter 16 but i think its funny if laios regularly abandons their joint dishpig post and lets falin slowly drown in dishes

the real fantasy element here is that chilichuck would not immediately get fired from a restaurant let alone become head server

to be clear marcille crying in the walk in or next to the dumpster does not make her a bad server. Shes actually a phenomenal server and has some kind of judo tetris skills to get a truly astonishing number of Boiling Hot plates onto a table in three seconds or less in the correct places. She doesn’t use a notepad for orders which chilchuck used to ride her ass about because marcille you are GOING to forget something (resulting in a lot of crying in the walk in while crytyping into falin’s dm’s whenever falin isnt also working) but finally she snapped and was like JUST WATCH ME DO IT THIS ONCE. And chilchuck watched her do it and watched her repeat a table of 9’s orders back to them in order verbatim and then put them in to be fired perfectly. And then she was like IF I EVER!!!!!!! PUT AN ORDER IN WRONG. I WILL GO BACK TO USING A NOTEPAD!!!! BUT UNTIL THAT HAPPENS I WILL BE USING MY OWN BRAIN!!!!!!!!!!! BECAUSE IT IS MUCH FASTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and because she advocated for herself instead of bursting into tears and also honestly it was almost impressive (chilchuck has been a server since he was 14 and nothing impresses him anymore) he lets her do it even though its against policy

i have now finished reading dungeon meshi and on top of now knowing how to correctly spell chilchucks name i am placing izutsumi as a hostess who hates her job and every single customer due to being a 16 year old hostess. She eats exclusively chicken nuggets and fishsticks and takis and senshi keeps trying to whip up food for her to eat that has like A Green Thing in it and she wont do it. Its his white whale. Also falin keeps letting her take hits off of her vape even though chilchuck keeps yelling at her about it.

the thing about disability is it really does sometimes boil down to “wow i wish i could do that” and then you can’t. and it sucks.

accomodations are important but i think they miss the point of this post. sometimes you can’t do it. at all. someone needs to do it for you or it will never happen.

“and then you force yourself anyway” folks im starting to think some of you really do not understand what it means to not be able to do things.

to give a fuller, more honest response here, i do really think that for many people (myself included) 2016 felt like the last time the world seemed relatively “normal.” to explain with a personal example, as a 31 year old in january 2026, i have voted in a total of four us presidential elections. of those four, three of them have had donald trump running as the republican nominee. and for many fully grown adults now, donald trump has been a dominating presence throughout their entire adult political life. if you are currently 30 years old or just turned 31, there has never been a presidential ballot without his name on it since you were able to start voting.

i think we sometimes forget now how unbelievably ridiculous and far-fetched it seemed pre-2016 that donald trump would get anywhere near political power, much less win two terms as president and bend the entire GOP (and frankly all of american politics) to his will. the idea that someone like him, as crude, vulgar, and unhinged as he is, could be taken seriously as US president was inconceivable. i think 2016 was a real “through the looking glass” moment for a lot of people and now, 10 years on, it’s hard not to look back and see what a complete fucking trainwreck this has all led to.
