Thinking about Shang Qinghua not transmigrating into the character of Luo Binghe (his protagonist), but still effectively becoming the character who must unite the human and demon realms and rule over them. And not realizing it.

Like it starts out and first he just has to become Peak Lord of An Ding (system mandated), and handling stuff in the demon realm is just part of his whole spy subplot and his efforts to both make himself useful to Mobei Jun and prevent Mobei Jun's death, even though he also thinks Mobei Jun will kill him one day. He's not pursuing ambition, is the thing, he's just trying to survive, but the stakes keep getting higher the higher his social status becomes, consequently prompting him to gain more status/advantages which in turn increases his authority. By the time of SV's start he's probably the second most influential political authority in Cang Qiong (after the sect leader) and fourth most powerful in the Northern Desert (after MBJ, MBJ's dad, and Linguang Jun), even though he is largely off of a lot of people's radar. Including his own.

Especially because at that point he's still doing everything with the full knowledge & expectation that Luo Binghe is going to come along one day and become Junshang and rule the world. After his ascension Shang Qinghua anticipates either being dead or on the run, or at the very least downgraded to being the servant of a lieutenant who is only nominally king, and the lord of a peak that's a big pile of ash.

In the SV route, however, while Luo Binghe does become Junshang, he forgoes conquering the world and doesn't particularly want to manage/keep most of the bits he did take over, not even really doing much with Huan Hua Palace let alone the entire rest of the cultivation world, or the ruling nobility beyond it, and whether he consolidates the rest of the demon realms or not is more a matter of what options present the greater impediment to him meeting his own enrichment needs than an all-consuming hunger and ambition to be The Best.

Which means that instead of the downgrade he's expecting, Shang Qinghua goes from logistically managing 1 peak and 1 kingdom, to handling a lot of practical affairs of Luo Binghe's entire roughshod empire. Whatever Luo Binghe delegates to Mobei Jun is either done by Mobei Jun or Shang Qinghua, and Mobei Jun usually just handles the combat-oriented stuff.

So, Shang Qinghua is managing the realm. Which is comprised of joint parts of the demon and human worlds. Which he will probably need to expand in some directions just to maintain stability or avoid certain plot upheavals from the latter portions of his novel. Now he's gotta figure out how to broker marriage alliances throughout the various territories and nearby fiefdoms to compensate for Luo Binghe's lack of harem, he's gotta handle trade and business oversight, tribute and taxation, he thankfully doesn't have to personally handle diplomacy (at first) but he's gotta advise and organize things for people who do, and so on.

Then, after he officially becomes Mobei Jun's consort, his political sway increases as does his visibility and the appropriateness of him handling things in public as well. He is officially the master of Mobei Jun's household, and this version of Mobei Jun has a taste for being the spoiled trophy wife, so despite nominally being the one who "married in" Shang Qinghua is doing most of the king's job. Or at least the parts that Mobei is bad at and/or doesn't like doing.

He says this stresses him out but it's also a hell of a power trip. He's not the ruler of the human realms outside of his position in Cang Qiong and his by-proxy management of Huan Hua Palace and thank fuck for that, he doesn't particularly want to be dealing with the extra headaches, but he is officially the third most powerful person in the demon realms and unofficially in fact the no.1 most powerful, at least by any metric that doesn't involve physicality. Obviously pissing off Luo Binghe and Mobei Jun is bad but you're way less likely to even be in a position to do that unless you're on an active battlefield or interrupting their spoiled husband routines, whereas you can piss of Shang Qinghua from half a country away by doing diplomacy wrong and suffer Consequences.

But while Shang Qinghua is aware that he considerably beats the rank-and-file NPCs of the world, he's still mostly operating like he's a twelfth banana and it would be absurd to think he was important.

Shang Qinghua just being like this is hazard pay. This is an expense. This is my annual bonus. No one can come after me for this or I'll cut them! And then it's just his Snack Fund that's barely a drop in the bucket and nowhere near the level of egregious expenditures Luo Binghe is pulling out of his ass every time he decides he needs to get more Shot Demon Spider-Silk lingerie for Shizun or etc.

what you need to understand is that textile work is basically the closest i have seen to Real Magic and the reason old ladies in quilting spaces are either the grumpiest or the most whacky cheerful people you'll ever meet is because they're basically wizards who have studied the ancient crafts too long

"knitting circle" ma'am that's a coven

Ugh my boss is super obsessed with the hero and defeating him by his own hand and idk I just worry that it's a bit... one-sided? Like I don't even think the hero lies awake at night dreaming about defeating Boss. I could be wrong though it's just a vibe.

Boss went to all the trouble of setting up a showdown in the Hills of Despair over the tomb of the hero's dead mother and the hero didn't even turn up.

I figured that'd be a turning point but no Boss is just like "no no he has a point this was moving too fast I should have set the dual up in front of the sacred temple instead" like damn man. Have some self-respect! You're an A-tier evil wizard!

There are other heroes you could be challenging!

There's that hot blond elf paladin who keeps coming by the purge the undead, that valiant warrior princess who has sworn to bring about the end of all evil magic, the bumbling dwarven minstrel with the lush beard who is actually really competent somehow...

"Maybe if I team up with him to defeat the King of Destruction he'll understand that only my dark powers are a match for his blade of light" sure Boss. Whatever happens me and the other hench goblins got your back, yeah?

Starting to think this hero must have lowkey hypnotic powers that just make people obsessed with him. World's most standard looking human dude with a magic sword and somehow he's got solid 10's schlepping his luggage and cooking his meals and bridal carrying him up to the King of Destruction's castle just so he can get the last stab in.

Joke's on him I'm gonna seduce his chief minion to the side of evil.

Possibly literally wish me luck.

This excellent story inspired me to make art!

Please accept this humble illustration, from a post-it note!

I like to imagine the hyrule royal family breathes a sigh of relief every time a child is born that has no resemblance to ancient legends or goddesses, and then when they get one a little too uncanny they just go "fucking dammit we got another Zelda. Pack it up lads we're fucked."

King talking to an attendant like "yeah nah legit blonde hair and all. hanging out with that green kid. started playing music at like 2 years old we're so fucked. anyway this big gerudo bloke is here to meet with me. sure this will be just fuckin grand. NOT NOW IMPA I'M BUSY"

i hate seeing people now making fun of those who care about privacy online. i've seen people saying things like "well they already have your data. what are companies going to do with it" and it's like, that's not the point. it's that companies /shouldn't/ be able to have my data and sell it. am i aware they probably already have my data? yes, absolutely. but i'm still going to try and keep them from monetizing it any further, why are we defending companies selling data they shouldn't have to begin with though?

adding this to the post because, 100%, just there's a fire doesn't mean you should pour gasoline on it

I have like ten different ad and/or tracking blockers on my PC and phone... just out of pure spite

Can link it? I wish to hop aboard that train.

Is 25 years old too late to start wielding the cursed sword? Will I ever be a real inheritor of all the world's sins?

Not at all!!!! I started when I was 16, but after my own journey, my mom was inspired to seize the curse as well. She first grasped that blackened blade when she was 41, and she keeps telling me that carving a bloody path through nirvana has been the most freeing and fulfilling experience of her life! I'm so proud of her (even though I'm a little jealous that it gave her bigger boobs than me- what the heck CB!!! 🤣)

Seriously though, I see this question all the time, and the answer is that its never too late to forgo all that is pure and righteous. Whether youre 13 or 70; if you find yourself dreaming of an endless ocean of blood and rot and fire... don't die wondering. Reach heaven through violence.

you know a guy is a piece of work when you gotta get The Boys together to have a meeting because the guy’s been kinda nice lately and this is suspicious in the extreme. lowkey iconic shen jiu, you absolute serpent

I was playing with the options of what fem! Sqq will wear (my only idea was that she must look like a total diva)

The four looks like royalty but yqy will totally spoil her to the point that the empress will ENVY her .
