i don’t have the time or energy after doing what i need to to survive to make art to post but don’t worry i do still want the love and attention it gets me
the thing that worries me about how a lot of usamericans are protesting right now is there's this desire to find some pure, untouched version of the True American Spirit that Resists Tyranny, and like i'm sorry but that does not exist. people want so badly to believe that what is happening right now is the result of some force corrupting usamerican culture, when it is fundamentally a problem that emerged directly from our past. reading quotes from thomas paine and recreating protests from 200 years ago will not save us because the ideologies that created the myth of american liberty, and the ones they birthed, are what have been used to exert oppressive power over others for the past 200 years.
& before anyone accuses me of this: i'm not saying people shouldn't protest if they aren't Protesting Right. but do you know what would be even better for not just people in the US, but the whole world, than people reading quotes from pretentious old racists? people reading quotes from Black liberationists and Latin American revolutionaries, explaining why it is so vital to call for a complete dismantling of the usamerican empire. this is such a crucial moment where more and more people are questioning some things that usamericans are taught to see as fundamental to how the world works & should work, and i think its more important than ever to connect those people to actually revolutionary ideas & frameworks for positive change. you have to let go of any love you have for the United States of America, if you truly love any of the people on the continent of america & want to see them thrive, physically socially culturally morally etc.
“men can’t be oppressed” -> men of colour
“white men can’t be oppressed” -> gay men
“heterosexual men can’t be oppressed” -> trans men
“cis-het men can’t be oppressed” -> intersex men
“perisex men can’t be oppressed” -> disabled men
“able-bodied men can’t be oppressed” -> neurodivergent men
“cis-het perisex white able-bodied neurotypical men can’t be oppressed” -> buddy let me tell you about wealth and class and homelessness and immigrants and minority languages and cultures and being a child and being an elderly person and and and
we can keep doing this all day but the reality of the world is that very few people don’t face any kind of oppression at all and everyone exists in a complicated, intersecting web where they have privileges over some people in some contexts and some others are have privilege over them in other contexts. no one individual is incapable of enacting oppression and if you think that about yourself you need to go away and interrogate that belief.
If you're at work in a retail or hospitality environment and you see a sex worker with a client... no you didn't.
If your boss asks you if you think that person's a sex worker, you tell them you do not believe that. You don't report their presence to anyone. You don't joke about it with a coworker. You don't eavesdrop or bother them.
We're working the same as you are. Leave us alone!
Some examples of situations where you might need to keep your mouth shut about a potential sex worker:
I do not care what kind of retail or hospitality setting you work in. If you see a sex worker, no you didn't!
exiting a uquiz halfway through when it becomes clear the creator's narrow and immature world view and cultural knowledge leaves them totally unequipped to tell me which peanuts character i am with any degree of accuracy or insight
dogs might look like their owners but cat people always have a cat with the same mental illness as them
My last cat was owned by my friend's Trekkie uncle who passed very suddenly in a car crash. The family just couldn't take him and asked me to possibly foster him until they could. I almost immediately adopted him.
I would set my computer to play a video for him when I left for work. He got mad if it wasn't star trek. He learned to hit the spacebar to pause and start it.
I am and have always been a Trekkie. One time I was having a shit day bc I was in the middle of MCAS starting to kick my butt and I was just crying on my couch. He hopped onto the table and started star trek for me
Then he just stared at me like "did that work?"
And this was his staring face so yes of course it did
But I'm forever amused that I shared needing the same comfort show, with a cat
Omg this is amazing
Like learning to pause???
And knowing it comforted you as well???
It took him some trial and error, but he figured out pawing the keyboard in the area of the spacebar made it stop and start. And also at my mouse, which he had stolen bc I was paying too much attention to the video, in that picture
He was a very smart and like. Attenuated cat.
