What's life without a little obsession over fiction

Eowyn/Faramir was one of the first ships I was truly obsessed with, and am still obsessed with. Faramir has lived the past year of his life in the shadow of the Nazgul, burdened by grief, fighting a desperate war that knows he's going to lose, hating that he has to fight at all but still doing it to protect his men (many of whom will die anyway), to obey his father (who doesn't love him), to defend his city (which is probably doomed.) He bears up heroically under his burden, he doesn't have illusions, he tolerates hopelessness so well that he's not even tempted by the ring: if no actions can avert the inevitable destruction, he might as well act righteously. He holds up under the burden, and he holds others upright as well, but it's sickening him, and the sickening dread that he fights every day has a voice and shape, black wings in the sky.

And then Eowyn shows up having killed one of those.

Imagine waking up in a hospital bed. There's a girl in the room next to yours who keeps arguing with the nurses and trying to check herself out of the hospital even though she's got so many broken bones and just generally looks half dead. There's a security guard on her door because she's an obvious flight risk. You ask another patient who's well enough to walk around how she ended up in there and he tells you she killed depression. Not all depression, but the big one, the King Depression, definitely. She stabbed it in the face.

I finished Andor Season 2 last night.

It's wild how the final shot of the last episode just made one of the major themes in my favorite Star Wars movie obsolete.

I can’t remember the last time I’ve felt this betrayed.

After nine years, we’re now told that the "real" tragedy of Rogue One is that Cassian is a father but will never get to meet his child. That Cassian's sacrifice now has "real" meaning because he has someone who will remember him and keep his "legacy" alive.

And it's so fucked up.

Rogue One was always tragic because these rebels had no one—no one to remember them, no one to keep their legacies alive—except for each other. And yet they still chose to sacrifice themselves for a greater cause.

The real tragedy of Rogue One is that these rebels sacrificed themselves knowing they wouldn't get to live in the world they fought for.

The real tragedy is these rebels not even knowing if their efforts will help others—will save the galaxy.

The real tragedy is Jyn and Cassian finding each other, choosing one another in the end, but not having enough time to be together.

By making Cassian a father in Andor, the original tragedy of Rogue One is meaningless.

And so is one of Rogue One's major themes: a theme that says that your life has meaning—your life has purpose—even when you sacrifice yourself. A theme that says you sacrifice yourself for a cause, not because you expect to be remembered, and not because you expect to reap the benefits, but because it's the right thing to do.

That's the point of the movie.

And at the end of Rogue One, in that final scene on Scarif's beach, Jyn and Cassian had chosen to be together. They had no one but each other. They knew that they would be forgotten, and that their sacrifices would never be written in history. And they had accepted that—and they had accepted each other.

Now, that scene is meaningless. Because Cassian has a child who will carry on his "legacy"—who will remember him.

For weeks, I’ve been looking forward to watching Rogue One upon completing Andor. But now...what’s the point?

The story's been broken by its very own creator.

betrayal is a good word.

if you like ryan cooglers projects please support iron heart it comes out today and episodes drop every tuesday on disney +. racists are review bombing despite the fact that the show literally isn’t out yet because they’re losers who can’t handle a black woman leading a show. this is the acolyte all over again and i at least hope this time that disney doesn’t bend to these freaks

that explains a lot. Excellent marvel show imo. Soundtrack was top tier. Loved the performances.

Please watch, ignore the reviews.

Here we are at the end of Andor. And my opinion of it is pretty simple. I think the show is really good at talking about the politics of fascism and insurrection.

Where this season excels is in the big moments and the political speeches. It's things like the Ghorman Massacre or Luthen teaching Kleya how to be an operative. It's moments like Mon Mothma's speech to the Senate, where she addresses the Senate and says, "Donald Trump is plunging this country into a fascistic hellscape while FOX News erodes the very concept of an objective reality. You, the person sitting here watching Star Wars: Andor, you have to be responsible for pushing back against this."

The show has a lot to say, and what it has to say is extremely relevant to this moment in history. It is a very good at being a powerful political manifesto that wears its themes on its sleeve.

What it's not so good at is... doing things with the characters it has. Holy shit, do I need to vent because when the show wasn't giving political screeds that I like and agree with, it was such a fucking mess.

whooaaa lol yeah op also had a lot of feelings here that i hate to say i agree with.

Adding: Wilmon was shown to become Saw's man; I didn't understand the loyalty to Luthen at all.

I try to think of Cassian in Andor as just a vehicle through who they're telling the larger story. He's supposed to represent multiple individuals in the rebellion. I could see it that way the first season because the stars/protagonists were really Luthen, Nemik, Kino, Maarva, Mon. But he seemed to be claiming agency this season (never mind having a child he had no idea about!) so we had to consider his arc too.

Andor Finale

This show ending was bitter sweet for me. I watched the whole thing, with rapt attention. I think it is a feat to respect your creative vision and honour true story telling instead of commercial appeal. On its own, it was spectcular. But I have to admit. Some major elements of this season fell flat for me. Probably partly because I am such a huge rebelcaptain fixit fan with a wealth of pre Andor headcanons about these characters' backstory and how they would have been had they survived. So I'm going to gripe though I want it clear I stan this show anyway.

While I could see that the Bix/family storyline was written in a way to tug at your heartstrings, mine were not tugged. I never saw her and Andor together in a romantic way. Even when they showed them being sweet it felt like... not right. It felt forced. But I see what they did with her arch and the theme of fighting for something more. It's just that personally I thought the ultimate sacrifice was more impactful when he couldn't know that his legacy would be remembered or cared for. Nameless soldier. His story would mirror Luthen that way. Bix was shown to love him deeply, so now we are toldthat Cassian would die knowing that she will talk about him.

Vel! And Kleya! And Wilmon! Wouldn't they have been on the ground in Scarif?? I love them but that's the natural progression of their story. It doesn't really make sense for them to survive.

They also undo some of the tension in Rogue One. We're given the impresson in Rogue One that Cassian is a chain of command follower. Maybe a rewatch will make his argument with Jyn ironic, but the whole point of that scene after Eadu was Jyn shaking Cassian into seeing they needed to act. Now we are being told he was way ahead of her and never really was one for following orders.

I also think it undoes the very first scene in Rogue One. I wish there had been anything in this show that hinted that Cassian was discerning about killing people for the cause, or at least his own friends. Because that was a star plus level acting from Diego. Maybe someone can point out an example for me if it exists.

We see Saw indirectly lament his sister in the most deranged way possible. Why not do something similar for his adopted daughter who he abandoned??? Crumbs of Jyn would have been appreciated!!

That's just first thoughts. I probably have more gripes and unrealized wishes for this show. I might be able to compartmentalize my rebelcaptain/force fathers/rogue pilots headcanons and enjoy it better on a rewatch. I think I'll appreciate Kleya's story more now we know where she ends up. I've found rewatches to be better in general for this show (maybe because I'm not watching past my bedtime). And then I'm absolutely rewatching Rogue One.

Side note, but major props to all the Ghor actors for learning a whole made-up language and fluently performing entire scenes in it.

genuinely it was so well done, it's this kind of dedication from the actors that fleshed out the plight of the Ghor.

ANDOR: 2x08 "WHO ARE YOU?" (2025) // ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY (2016)

Scene gave me chills. We got maybe five minutes of the hotel clerk but it was all he needed to make this impact. The theme of passing on the message. Chills.

I wonder what happened between Mark leaving the birthing cabin and then showing up at work.

I at first thought that he decided to put his faith in his innie. But Cobel is there. And they're all more shrewd than that. They probably had multiple plans. Getting Gemma out might be a complete surprise to them.

Will have to wait and see, hope for Gemma actually being able to escape.

Really so many head games here. Amazing show.

Also people say there are 25 innie Gemmas. Seems the whole MDR department was working on files, wouldn't it be way more?

The amount of quality fanart and analysis being generated is astonishing. Everyone should be checking out the severance tag.

DDBA with the feint and rib shot

Matt trying to explain to his client that what he wants wouldn't even be on the table. The client being a complete ass to Matt. Matt getting him a "great deal". We think man don't you know this is Matt Murdoch stop being so rude. Only for the ass to hand it all back to him explaining why the legal system Matt is trying to treat like a religion is failing people.

Matt tracking down Frank itching for a fight. Expecting Frank to take up the mantle and take back the Punisher symbol. Plays the public servant giving out tough advice and tries to enrage/guilt him into action. We think man Frank yeah he's going to be so mad these guys are coopting his brand he's about to go guns ablazing. Only to have Frank tear through it all, declare it isn't his brand of vigilantiism, and expose Matt's need for catharsis and his own guilt at doing nothing. That scene tore my heart out, standout performances there.

Charlie Cox range in this episode alone is amazing. But he needs to cool his rizz wtf man there are themes to analyze here.

Something is not quite right with the tone and the pacing compared to the Netflix run, but the writing is there. I hated Foggy dying but damn if it doesn't fit with the story.

COBRA KAI S6EP13 "SKELETONS" I loved you, man. Idolized you. Every good thing about myself... Strength. Confidence. Karate. You taught me. I only wanted to please you. So, yeah, that night in the parking lot, December 19, 1984, was the single worst moment of my life. But what hurt even more than being choked out was you abandoning me.

actual chills watching this performance

how to say "I love you" in x-files [97/?] ⤷ 1.07 — “Ghost in the Machine”

a lot of the tags talk about ex meeting current but, and i realize I'm about to be pedantic, in the context of the episode i think Mulder knew Scully would suss that the man had fully betrayed Mulder in two seconds and... lo and behold (maybe because of his immediate glance to check her reaction, maybe because she knows his history), she does.

These two read each other like a book right away, it's what i love about them.

So i think it's less uh oh caught with my ex, more oh crap she's gonna know this guy took advantage of me and think I'm pathetic. Either way she's not pleased when she puts it together. But in my head it's because she's protective not jealous.

Everything feels awful right now but it isn't really. We still don't officially have a winner, but regardless of how the presidential election ends up, I wanted to take a minute and find what lights I can in the 3 a.m. darkness. Here's what I know:

* Kentucky overwhelmingly rejected an attempt to undermine the public education system by offering private school vouchers:

* Delaware has elected a transgender woman to the House of Representatives, the first out trans person of any gender ever elected to congress:

* For the first time in history, two Black women will be serving in the senate at the same time, and they are only the fourth and fifth Black women ever elected to the senate:

* New York State has passed a constitutional amendment enshrining the rights of pregnant people (including the right to an abortion), LGBTQIA+ people, the disabled, immigrants regardless of legal status, and other at-risk groups:

* Democrat Josh Stein has beaten self-avowed Nazi Mark Robinson to become governor of North Carolina:

That's everything I know off the top of my head. It's not many bright spots, but it's not zero. I'm going to try to find more and I'll add them to the post. It's the only thing I can think of to do that isn't sobbing and throwing up or looking up Canadian immigration rules.

If you know more good news, I encourage you to add it in reblogs.

* Nevada has amended their constitution to guarantee abortion rights, overturning a state ban:

* Colorado has passed amendment 79, guaranteeing the right to an abortion, with more than a 20 point spread between the Yes and No vote:

* Maryland Question 1, also focused on reproductive rights and abortion, has passed as well: https://www.cnn.com/election/2024/results/maryland/issue-1

* Likewise, Amendment 3 has passed in Missouri, overturning a near-total ban to add reproductive rights to the state constitution:

* Arizona Proposition 139 to protect abortion rights also passed:

Every glimmer helps.

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

deleted prev post because it was too negative. Gist of it is that we need good news and hope. Thanks for sharing.
