In my headcanon after The Long Game Ilya only speaks to the kids in Russian. Because he wants them to speak it too but also because he thinks it’s funny to have secret convos that Shane can’t keep up with. And it helps with things like sneaking snacks before dinner.

But that only makes Shane more determined to speak Russian better. So he becomes conversationally fluent. But Ilya isn’t even upset he can’t be sneaky anymore because even if he can’t go back to Russia he can still have part of Russia with him in his home with his family. And for the first time since the death of his mom he finally has a family he WANTS to talk to in his native tongue.

And one day he thanks Shane for learning it for him and their kids. But Shane responds that he is also just a practical boring guy and he really learned because one day when they finally can visit Ilya’s home country he wants to be able to understand everything.

And then Illya responds, “You really think that far ahead, Hollander?” And Shane says, “I do about this.”

still talking about wake up dead man but the moment during the call with louise where father jud looks down to the broken jesus figurine and realized how he had lost himself in the investigation. cause i chuckled a little bit when they smashed it with no hesitation after, just a little bit earlier, father jud had cared so much about the jesus images that he quietly removed blanc’s hat from the bust on the table as they were talking

i thought it was a funny way to show how invested he had become in being blanc’s watson, but of course this movie has an actual script so it comes back to bite him in the ass when louise reminds him what being a priest means to him and he looks down to see the broke plastic jesus looking up at him i love when movies are movies
