Daily reminder: Transphobia actively contributes to sexism. If you don’t fit the beauty standard and are seen as masculine in any way shape or form, you are seen as transgender and as a “problem”

I think it's incredibly important here to not overlook the fact that she is a Black woman. Transphobia, racism, and sexism overlap significantly because of the incredibly eurocentric beauty standards women are judged on.

I keep wondering, why did Harry marry Ginny?

If we disregard the idea that Rowling simply lost her marbles and decided to pair them up to «neatly» tie the story together, and instead base this question on Harry's character, the following answer suggests itself:

Harry grew up with the Dursleys, where he was humiliated, ignored, and made to feel like an outsider. He was considered abnormal both at his Muggle school and within the Dursley family itself. However, even after entering Hogwarts, nothing fundamentally changed. Harry turns out to be the «Chosen One», a celebrity; people look up to him and see the image of a savior, not Harry himself. So, in this environment too, he is not an ordinary boy.

Throughout all the books, he longs for two things: to be a normal, ordinary teenager and to have a family of his own. Ginny is the most obvious and expected choice. The sister of his best friend, whom he's known since childhood — «wow, how cute is that!»

So, Ginny gives him a sense of stability and inclusion into an already established, loving, and familiar family.

When Ron and Hermione became a couple, Harry might well have felt like a third wheel, as he wasn't part of their new family unit, no matter how much they loved him. Previously, he had always been part of the Golden Trio, so his friends' romantic relationship likely made him feel lonely and abandoned. Harry is deeply afraid of being left alone, and marrying Ginny automatically makes him part of the Weasley family and connects him by blood to his best friends.

Furthermore, Harry has an idealized image of a family in his head, based on the stories about James and Lily. He unconsciously replicates this template because he has no other frame of reference. Ginny is red-headed, spirited, and stubborn — in both appearance and character, she resembles Lily. But the problem is, Ginny is not Lily, and Harry himself is not James.

Harry likely doesn't know who he is outside of the fight against evil and the role of the «Chosen One». He never experienced a normal adolescent upbringing, never had the chance to figure out his own desires and interests, so he tends to move through life according to what is expected of him (by the way, I believe this is precisely why he became an Auror, but that's another story).

In general, Ginny is a convenient, safe option that gives him everything he so desperately craved: family, acceptance, and the illusion of «normalcy». But it's highly unlikely that he finds true fulfillment in it.

apple picking - wolfstar raising teen harry (anon request) - hint at drarry - CW: mention of jily death - @wolfstarmicrofic - word count: 408

“Harry James Potter, we are going apple picking if it fucking kills me!” Sirius found himself shouting, his arms crossed, as he stomped his foot and scowled at his godson.

“But why?” Harry asked from his spot sprawled on the couch, with an eyeroll that happened so commonly now, Sirius could have sworn the sixteen-year-old deserved an award for the skill. “I’m not a kid anymore, Padfoot, I don’t care about–”

“About what? Time together? Family bonding?” Remus, who was standing in the doorway of the sitting room, said both lightly, but Sirius could sense the hurt under his husband’s casual tone. Who had allowed Harry to grow up to be such a moody teenager, anyway? He was so like James, sometimes.

Luckily, he was also like Lily, because Harry’s scowl softened and he sat up, staring at his hands. “No, I just…it’s childish. M’not five anymore, you know?”

Sirius’s heart broke a little, knowing all too well how true the words were. Soon, Harry would be in his twenties, older than his parents ever had been. He sent Remus a pained look.

“Alright,” Remus agreed slowly. “What if we make a new before-school tradition? Sirius, you Floo Narcissa and cancel, and–”

But now Harry was staring at both of them with a very curious look on his face. “Narcissa? Malfoy?” he asked, voice breaking a bit. His expression reminded Sirius comically of the one James used to use when trying to be cool around Lily. “She was coming? Er…alone?”

“No, she’d decided to bring Draco,” Sirius said slowly, a smile stretching onto his face. “From what she said, he was just as enthusiastic about it as you are, but she’s trying to spend time with him more, since her and Lucius’s div–”

“I mean, we can go,” Harry cut him off, rubbing his hand on the back of his head, messing up his hair even more than it’d been before. “Er…yeah, bonding is cool.”

It took everything in Sirius not to exchange an amused look with his husband. “Bonding is cool?” he repeated dubiously.

“Yeah,” Harry said shortly. “I’ll change.”

And with that, the teenager walked off toward his bedroom, leaving Sirius and Remus to collapse into each other in a fit of laughter.

“Should’ve led with that part, love,” Remus muttered, eyes dancing with amusement. “We’re obviously worth nothing, but Draco?”

Sirius fake-gagged. “If only James could see him now,” he rolled his eyes and grinned.

you know i don’t think we often talk about how difficult it actually is to suddenly realize that a belief you thought was good and moral and correct was actually really fucking toxic. how you have to look at something and go ‘oh shit, oh i fucked up. oh this is going to take probably years at minimum to deprogram from my brain because of all the little ways this shit pervaded the rest of my beliefs’

so. to all the people picking up all the pieces of a recently shattered world-view and trying to figure out what is safe to keep and what has to be thrown away and started over

to all the people having to relearn how to even listen to other people

to all the people putting in the work to do better while struggling with the guilt that comes from finding out you were the asshole

i’m proud of y’all.

it’s hard to admit being wrong and even harder to change in the aftermath. just keep doing the best you can and just know that the effort is appreciated. everyone can change. everyone can do better. keep fighting.

late night reminder to self: your depressive episode will not last forever. it will have an end. tonight will not be the end of you.

Hey guess what i saw this a few days ago when i was in an absolutely scary slump and then i spoke to my counsellors and did what they told me to do and now i feel so much better. So this is true. Reblogging for more good luck

another bakery employee here to tell you, if you're sad or scared at 3am just remember that's when the croissants are done proofing and are getting egg washed to be baked just for you. the baguettes are being shaped after proofing for hours and heading into a burning hot oven to be ready for you to order for breakfast

Hi! I don't work in a bakery but I do work in a factory that makes food packaging and if you're sad or scared at 1am, just remember I'm finishing up my last few rolls and I've spent my night making sure your veggies are fresh.

So please go get some lettuce or spinach or spring mix, because I made sure the packaging was cut perfectly just for you, and getting good nutritious food helps a lot when you don't feel like yourself.

And while you're at it, know this:

I'm not just being cutesy when I say that. I've seen this post many times, and sometimes when I'm having a bad night at work and want to kick everything to the curb, I think "but I need to stay up for the scared people, I can't just leave them alone" and it helps.

You think of me, I'll think of you. We'll keep each other company in the watches of the night.

Anonymous asked:

how do you cope with "mama mama mama mama mama mama mama" 500x a second without losing you ever loving shit? I am this close to flipping out

I am going to sound insane but I need you to follow along with me here. When I have had enough of hearing my name, but I know I can't tell my child to leave me alone because she's literally dependent on me I will say "Okay! I'm setting a timer for 30 minutes! And until that timer goes off my name is Tammy!"

And if she says "hey mama,"

I go "I AINT YER MAMA WHAT ARE U TALKING ABOUT CHILD" in like a southern accent and she thinks it's the funniest fucking thing and she'll yell "HEY TAMMY CAN YOU GET ME SOME JUICE?!"

And it's also hysterical

I have to tell you, nothing really changed other than not hearing mama mama mama mama but- Tammy is rugged and loud and a line cook and Penny loves her. And when the timer goes off she says "MAMA IS BACK!!!" And then tells me about her time with Tammy and it's a lot less overstimulating

I highly recommend adopting a "moms not home right now" persona
