"Tutorial" on how to "draw" a blind OC.
Boring tired disclaimer: Keep in mind that this is an introductory "drawing" "tutorial" and has some generalizations in it, so not every “X is Z” statement will be true for Actual People. Which happens to be true for everything in general. Links below so that you can research and do a nuance. Ones that were directly mentioned are bolded.
i think people should be nicer to schizophrenics
I feel like people reblogging and spreading this post around are completely missing the original context that this was a vent post and not a general statement. I am schizophrenic. I posted this after remembering a specific time someone actively made an effort to comb through my online profiles and look for reasons to claim I'm "problematic" in order to get me banned from one of the few places i feel safe talking in because they found me mildly annoying and wanted a more valid reason to hate me. I was a minor at the time.
A lot of people are reblogging this without the addition too which frustrates me because I feel like it's really important to bring attention to the specific sort of discrimination schizophrenic people are subject to.
People will see that you're visibly mentally ill, think that you're annoying and actively look for reasons to dislike you, leading to your presence being constantly fucking monitored and judged because everyone's looking for a concrete reason to hate you. That's what this post is about. this is not a general positivity post or a statement. This is an exasperated vent from a schizophrenic person who has been pushed to his fucking brink so many times.
This doesn't just apply to schizophrenia of course- this applies to other schizospec or psychotic disorders, this applies to personality disorders (ESPECIALLY CLUSTER B.) and this spplies to DID and OSDD and other dissociative disorders. Hell this applies to any even remotely stigmatized disorder. I've seen friends with nothing up with them except for mild autism be treated like this solely because someone found them annoying.
My point is that people should really think hard about why you may find these sorts of people annoying. Just really think about if they actually did anything wrong to you other than be annoying.
Trans and nonbinary books coming in 2026 (from readwithcharles' instagram)
Hella bored what is your hottest take?
Media where it is made explicitly clear that the hero cannot and should not kill the villain, but then kills the villain off anyways for reasons beyond the hero’s control in order to facilitate a happy ending, directly imply that death is a natural and deserved consequence of evil actions AND an acceptable resolution towards peace, which completely undermines the hero’s arguments otherwise.
Having the hero say “murder is wrong so I will not kill you” while the bad guy goes “your compassion is meaningless, I’ve learned nothing” only for a building to fall on the bad guy and kill him is cop-out fantasy fulfillment for those of us who in theory condone capital punishment but cannot reconcile it with our own self-image of the compassionate pacifist, and broadly represents our frustration that there are, in fact, conflicts that cannot be resolved by “good” people
TL/DR: “Hero too good the commit murder VS irredeemable bad guy who cannot be stopped until he is murdered” situations where the bad guy is taken out by a random deus ex machina are fucking boring UNLESS☝️as a poetic consequence of something either character themselves inadvertently put into motion
I hate how bot comments on ao3 are making more and more writers disable their comments and lock their works so that only people with registered accounts can access their works (because while some of these bots are from registered accounts and therefore locking your fics won’t guarantee that you will be safe from them, a lot of them are commenting as guest users so locking fics helps a little), because there are so many genuine readers who read and comment on fics without having their own registered accounts.
these bots are not only annoying and harmful (if you fell for their lies and gave them money, an access to your personal informations), they’re also keeping artists and art from genuine audiences and destroying the community artists built with their audiences.
this is a post to say fuck you every bot out there.
WITH EVERY REBLOG THIS POST GETS, A BOT WILL DIE

I mean I know from experience that tumblrs weird stance about visiting other cultures is appropriation is total bullshit but you really see it when you ask a few folks on the yellowknife flight (all of whom were indigenous) when the best time to see the northern lights is and their faces all light up and they go "march!! Come see them in march!! You should take your partner and all your friends and come see us!! Theyre beautiful and so so important to us and our ancestors and we want to show them to you and tell you all of our stories about them if you want to come and see and listen!! :D!!"
All of the people i asked today had this reaction btw. As a general rule that i say from personal experience, people actually really love sharing the parts of their cultures and histories and identities and the lands their people are from that are made to be shared with others if you approach them with respect and curiosity
Tumblr: wearing the handmade kimono that you bought off of a japanese artisan in Kyoto is inherently problematic if you arent japanese
People in real life: by buying this off of me and becoming a part of the creative process we are not only sharing intimate parts of ourselves across cultural lines, but you are also feeding my family and keeping a roof over our heads. If youre interested in kimono I would love to take you to a traditional tea ceremony where you can wear what Ive made for you and I can show you how we have conducted everything from minor trade to national politics for thousands of years! My partner would love to sit you down and do your hair and makeup in our traditional style too! :))
What actual cultural appropriation is: haha look at my funny Mexican cartel boss Halloween costume! Here's a sling of bad taste jokes whose punchlines are about how historically black dialects sound stupid! Oh I like this practice, im going to claim it as my own and profit off of it
The key question is, are you doing something in relationship with the people whose culture it is, or are just copying the culture on your own?
(deeply, earnestly concerned) but hes not wearing heels and a mini skirt... how will he be empowered enough to fight supervillains?
Look I know there is so much more to it but right now it's so funny to me when you consider the Knives out movies as a series because the first one is about a woman who fights to be kind and compassionate, the third one is about a man who fights to be kind and compassionate and between them Glass onion is about repeatedly punching a capitalist in the face
Perfect framing 10/10 no notes
it seems that a lot of times people telling someone to “get therapy” envision the ideal outcome of this to be essentially like lobotomizing the person in question
I have been mentally picking at this for a long while, all the way back to when the last HP was published, and I don't think I'm going to find some universal truth to wrap this up, but damn, amatanormativity ruins so many plot arcs. In everything, but wow, fanfiction is plagued by it, so let’s talk about fic.
If you’re writing a pure romance, then the ending is the romantic conclusion. No objection to that. You might want that to be a confession, kissing, banging it out, marriage, babies, idk. If your plot was all about will they/won’t they, then the climax of the story is them getting together. Any secondary plot (the talent show to save the gazebo in the park!) is wrapped up in the denouement bc we never cared all that much about it. It was a vehicle for them to get together. If you want the classic, expected form of a romance genre story, love that for you, enjoy, but the rest of this post isn’t about that.
What irks me is when the story isn’t a pure romance, but the story ends like it was. Out of nowhere, once folks confess and/or bang, the story stops. And I don’t mean the post-battle, victory-party shagging. That’s a frequent trope in action films. They’ve saved the day and then they denouement for 90 seconds with a makeout in the rubble, possibly while an exploded bus burns in the background. I’m fine with that one too.
it’s genuinely so awesome how ds9 stops halfway through its oceans eleven themed holosuite episode to let sisko explain why he’s uncomfortable roleplaying in an era that in reality he wouldnt have been accepted in. hard to imagine a show nowadays that would play this so straight.
even though he does eventually join in, and kasidy presents a different perspective, his opinion isn’t treated as invalid by the narrative or anything. it’s perfectly understandable & in character for him to feel like he does, and also in character for him to put aside his feelings to support his friends. just great stuff
"Oh no I definitely want to support nonbinary people. Yeah, totally. But first you have to let me sort you into these two boxes. What? No no these boxes aren't just assigned sex at birth! It's totally different! Also I'm choosing which one of you goes in which box based on your asab. But it's totally not just asab again! You see, there's also arbitrary moral judgments! Totally different! Why aren't you getting in the box?"
Im so glad this meme is my legacy
hey it’s ok if you lost your ai virginity back when you were uneducated. a lot of posts go like “reblog if you have never ever used generative ai and never ever will!!!” but it’s ok if you have used gen ai before and it’s even ok if you used to think it was cool, back before you understood what it really was and how it worked, either because no one had taught you about it and you discovered it on your own or because the only education you had received about it was from the tech bros. you’re not a burger with a bite out of it for having used ai. ok
It is 100 percent okay to stop using it today and join the "boo AI" club.
This isn't a purity thing. This is a "everyone stand with us against destroying the environment and giving asthma to poor people" thing.
Did you know that when one community says no to an AI data center, they specifically search out communities with fewer resources? Communities that can't defend themselves? And the pollution 100 percent affects their health and wellbeing, in addition to burning through our already scarce drinking water.
You can stop using character.ai today. You can say "I listened to the facts and stopped." And another thing: don't you think it's a bit more impactful to have used it, stopped, and then you're in a position to say how little it helped? How doing things for yourself improved your life?
also posts in the spirit of "if you've used AI even ONCE your soul is tainted!!!!" can't be great to those with OCD
So true. People Gold Star Lesbianning ai makes me so tired.
Being able to change your mind and alter your behavior based on new evidence is a sign of intelligence and morality, actually. Purity politics is a fool's game.
Maybe I'm just being cranky but I get really annoyed when people confuse hanfu for kimono. It's an annoying trend that everything remotely Asian = Japan.
ngl I get annoyed sometimes too, “kimono” is used to describe any east-asian-looking robe thing even though it’s a pretty specific type of garment. Like I kinda hrmmm-ed at this scene in ATLA...
But people don’t usually mistake hanfu for kimono out of malice or racism, but just due to lack of exposure. So I’m gonna use your ask as an opportunity to give some quick n easy tips for how to tell kimono and hanfu apart. and hanbok while we’re at it (which is Korean for those who don’t know).
You can usually tell the difference from silhouette alone. To put it simply, kimono - rectangle, hanfu - triangle, hanbok - like a half oval-ish.
The obi, that wide, stiff sash, is also a distinct characteristic of kimono. I sometimes see people mistake hanfu for hanbok because some styles of hanfu also have high waistlines, so look at the skirt instead. Hanbok skirts can be triangular/A-lined too, but there’s still a sorta poofiness to it. There are different variations of these garments, but those are the basics.
Another factor that complicates matters is that there are many different styles of hanfu, some of which look closer to kimono or hanbok than others. For example, cross-collar one-piece hanfu styles like quju and zhiju look more similar to standard kimono, cross-collar waist-high ruqun looks more similar to hakama, and chest-high ruqun and aoqun look more similar to hanbok.
Nevertheless, there are certainly ways in which you can differentiate the three. The silhouette is one way, as demonstrated by offishwhite’s image and another comparison below (via). It’s crude, but it depicts the general differences - kimono (left) is tubular/rectangular in shape and overall more “geometric” looking with very straight lines, hanfu (center) has a more “curved” silhouette with a more A-line shaped lower half, and hanbok (right) is bell-shaped:
There are also very subtle differences in the shapes of the cross-collars (via) - left - hanfu, center - kimono, right - hanbok:
Other visual tells to differentiate hanfu and kimono include: hanfu sash is typically tied in front while kimono obi is typically tied in back, kimono obi is much wider and thicker than hanfu sash, kimono sleeves are more rectangular while hanfu sleeves are more curved, kimono sleeves are open in the back while hanfu sleeves are closed in the back, hanfu sleeves have more variety in lengths, etc.......
You can also look for context clues, such as makeup, hairstyles, and accessories. If you see huadian (forehead decoration), pibo (long scarf worn about the shoulders and arms), and/or tuanshan (rigid round fan), you can make a relatively safe assumption that it’s hanfu.
But the most efficient way to learn to tell the difference is definitely exposure. The more you look, the easier it will be to tell the difference, even if you don’t know the technical details ^^
This post is really valid and I love it but I kinda hate to point out that the word 'kimono' used to just mean clothing in general. These days it's a little more specific and means traditional style japanese clothing but it's still super broad. 'Kimono' in english is usually used to to refer to women's yukata or furisode(above) (when properly talking about a japanese garment) which I think is where the confusion is coming from here. I can't speak for traditional korean garments here but Kyoshi outfit doesnt really fit any of those 3 in that narrow definition. Structurally it matches the hanfu best but even then its grasping at straws.
However in atla kyoshi island was heavily japanese coded so using the broad definition of kimono probably the most appropriate. Also given atla was made what 15 years ago now the average American viewer might know what a kimono is vaguely but probably not a hanfu/hanbok. Given that the hanfu and the hanbok are distinctly different garments I dont think they have the broad definition like kimono does either. Kimono has also started to become culturally removed from japanese in english. I've seen it used for a generic bathrobe, which makes me mad but language machine go burr. Hanfu and hanbok are distinctly korean. All of this together means that in this case kimono was the best choice of word to use in this case excluding robe.
Not sure if I've made much sense its 5 am
