i think sometimes ppl appeal to things like international law, or domestic law if it works, because it's an authority that backs you up, which i don't think is the right rhetorical move but it's mostly inoffensive. but sometimes ppl appeal to law in a way that makes clear that they bizarrely think the actual genuine problem with genocide and concentration camps etc is that they're illegal or due process was not followed. like baffling mindset that's some shit communists say as a joke to make fun of liberals but some people believe it fr i guess.
