You can fly! || Emily and Tink

Emily glanced up towards the direction Tinker Bell pointed at, “Oh I see. Well then Miss Tinker Bell, do you think you could show me exactly how to fly? I would like to visit this Neverland. If I’m even allowed that is.”

“The only people Peter and I don’t take are grown-ups,” she explained. “You’re not a grown-up, are you?” she asked skeptically. “They have a lot more trouble learning how to fly, if they can learn at all.”

Emily shook her head, “Not exactly. I don’t consider myself an adult. I didn’t exactly have the best childhood.” Her head lowered slightly. “Would it be too much trouble if we could just try it once? If I’m unable to fly, then perhaps it wasn’t meant to be,” she asked with a hopeful tone to her voice.

“Alright, well first thing’s first; you need to think of a happy thought” she said. “Without happy thoughts, no one would be able to fly.” She laughed a little then, remembering how easy it was for Peter to think of his happy thought when she first taught him how to fly.

“A happy thought huh?,” Emily thought of all the things that made her happy. -Music, Dancing, My newest friends- Remembering all of these Emily smiled, “Okay! I have a few in mind. What do I do next little one?”

“Try not to sneeze,” she said as she flew just above her new friend, sprinkling a light layer of pixie dust on her. “And always think of happy thoughts,” she continued, “because they’re what keeps you up off the ground.” She really did hope that Emily would be able to fly; she didn’t seem like the kind who would enjoy being an adult, and Tink had rather taken a liking to her.

Emily giggled as the glittering dust surrounded her. “Okay.” She focused on her happy thoughts and pleaded over and over in her head -Please, please please let me fly- She took a deep breath and waited. Suddenly, she opened her eyes and realized she was higher and felt lighter. “I did it…I DID IT. OH MY—” She beamed at the fairy “Look Tinker Bell I’m flying!”

“That’s perfect, Emily!” she said cheerfully. “You’re doing great!” Emily was a pretty fast learner, compared to some of the other Mainlanders she’d tried teaching before. “Remember to hold on to those happy thoughts!”

Emily did just as Tinker Bell had instructed. She beamed with happiness as she got higher and higher away from the ground. This freedom…she loved it. She had not felt this happy in a long a time. I will never ever forget this - “So Tinker Bell now that I can fly , thanks to you dear one ,what do you suggest we do now?”

She took a minute to think before asking, “Well, is there anywhere you’ve been wanting to go? I can’t really think of anything,” she said with a small laugh and a shrug.

Emily thought for a bit, making sure she kept her happy thoughts intact. “How about we fly to the Big Ben in London? From there perhaps we can take a trip to Neverland. What do you say?” she asked with a grin on her face.

Emily laughed lightly at his response “Perfect!” She clapped her hands together in front of her before moving on. ” Oh! A piano is a musical instrument. It makes beautiful music. I’m pretty sure you would love it. Perhaps one day I could play a song for you! If we ever come across a piano that is. But I digress. Hiccup dear this place is quite a nice change from the Land of Dead. So why don’t we get on our way? I would very much like to look around.”

He looked to her inquisitively. “Oh, really? I’d…well…I’d like to hear you play!” Hiccup smiled at her, wondering all the while how one of these “pianos” worked. He nodded at her eagerly, moving forward as he did with a sweeping gesture of his hand. “This way then!” It wasn’t everyday that someone from the Land of the Dead visited. He just hoped he wouldn’t have to explain it to his father. “We’ll go to the village first. That way you can meet Toothless!”

Emily could not help but smile back at him fondly. Hiccup’s slightly crocked smile was certainly contagious. She has never met anyone who radiates the large amount of kindness as the boy that stands in front of her does. Emily could tell just by looking at him that he must have gone through a lot in his young life. She had not failed to notice his prosthetic leg that replaced where his flesh leg should have been and a faded scar underneath his lower lip. She was curious to know what happened to him but decided to ask later. For now, she would just enjoy the company of her new friend. After being alone for so long, it was nice to have someone to talk to. Emily nodded, her smile still ever present on her face, as she took his lead towards his village. Her curiosity instantly peaked at his last statement, “Um- I’m-I’m sorry… Toothless?”

He led her towards the village, his gait uneven due to the prosthetic piece that made up the lower half of his left leg. He was worried as to what might happen when they arrived there and his people caught sight of the woman who was with him. Be she ghost, Banshee, or whatever she had given Hiccup no cause to dislike her and even if her condition gave him pause he would be just as kind to her as she was to him. No, it was the other villagers that he worried about. The deathly pallor of her skin coupled with her skeletal arm and visible ribs might push the rest of them over the edge. They did not often receive visitors so he knew that the eyes of the village would be upon her. He slowed himself to walk beside her to help mask most of her from view as the came out onto one of the village’s roads. “Oh! Sorry…I forgot to um- He’s my best friend. He’s…a dragon.” Hiccup glanced over at her to see how she would react. Not everyone believed that dragons could be trusted.

She watched him walk beside her. Slight worry etched on her face for fear that he might fall over. She saw some worry on his face, but she knew it had nothing to do with his leg. She guessed it had something to do with her walking around his village. Sure, she did not know how the others would react to the sight of her but she would worry about it when the time would come. Which will probably be very soon, she thought.

“Oh! Sorry…I forgot to um- He’s my best friend. He’s…a dragon.”

“A dragon?” …That she was not expecting. She froze in her steps with a confused and shocked look on her face. After a moment, she caught up with her companion. “Oh… wow! I-I had no idea dragons existed!” Her eyes suddenly brighten with curiosity. “What does he look like? Is he the only one around? What’s he like?,” she blurted out questions with her excitement clearly shining on her face.
