New Outlook Gets Smarter DLP
The news that the new Outlook client will support custom oversharing dialogs for DLP policies might not seem very interesting, but it provoked me into looking more closely into how to build and deploy custom oversharing dialogs. All it takes is some well-structured JSON and an update to DLP rules, and the classic and Monarch Outlook clients should display custom tenant instructions to anyone who violates DLP rules. https://office365itpros.com/2026/02/12/custom-oversharing-dialog-dlp/15Views0likes0CommentsUnwanted Formular in Excel i need to get rid of Please.
Hello, i had had someone apply the below formular on a spreadsheet i maintain which i am not clear about. apparently this formular is used to append row numbers to the rows in my large excel sheet rather than the manual row number entry. I now don't want this formular and would like to revert back to manual row number entry but don't know what to do. if i delete the formular it also deletes the existing row number and i may loose the ability to match the row numbers to the actual content of the spreadsheet. Is there a way i can convert my rows back to manual please? This formula (="D_4" & TEXT(ROW() - ROW(Table5[[#Headers],[Defect Ref]]) - 400, "0;-0")) generates a custom defect reference code for each row in the “Defect Ref” column of Table5 in the “Defect_Log” sheet. It starts with the text "D_4". ROW() returns the row number of the current cell. ROW(Table5[[#Headers],[Defect Ref]]) returns the row number of the header row for the “Defect Ref” column in Table5 (which is row 3). Subtracts 400 from the difference between the current row and the header row, so for row 4: 4 - 3 - 400 = -399. TEXT(..., "0;-0") formats the result as a number, showing negative values with a minus sign. The formula concatenates "D_4" with the49Views0likes2CommentsValidating & Populating Cells with dates based on a Date Picker
Hello, we are working on a really simple delivery schedule for Monday thru Friday. The top row has a cell that is formatted as a short date picker. In choosing a date in that cell, I would like the dates of the 5 numbered cells below for each day of that week to be updated based on the date chosen. For instance, I chose 2/1/26 in the date picker. I would like cells A2, H2, O2, V2, and AC2 to correlate to that date number and automatically populate the proper day of the month. If possible, it would be great if the month names that are in cells D3, K3, R3, Y3, and AF3 would also correlate and update properly. Any help would be most appreciated, I attached a screenshot to show the layout. Thank you very much in advance.44Views0likes1CommentExcel giving incorrect answer to simple multiplication
This is undoubtedly due to some quirk of Excel, but I was using Excel to illustrate how fast doubling increases things. I was using the old story about the person who would work for $ .01 for the first day, .02 for the second, .04 for the third, etc. My formula is essentially A2=A1*2 carried through 64 cells. The cells are all formatted as currency with two decimal points. The calculations are all correct until day 51. Day 49 = 5,629,499,534,213.12. Day 50 should end with $xxxxxxxx.24. Instead it ends with .20. Day 51 (should end with .48) ends with .50 and so on through the rest of the spreadsheet. This probably has something to do with floating-point calculations, but there should be a way for it to just work with the actual number.52Views0likes3CommentsReplacing a string of words with a single number
I work with a lot of outcome data from a survey that has words as the typical response to questions. I need to convert those words to a number value so that I can analyze the data (example: "I really agree" -> "4"). I would need to be able to do this across multiple cells with multiple different values that I don't want to change. I have tried the substitute and replace functions and have run into problems with both that don't allow me to change the one specific text value to a specific number across multiple cells with different values. I am hoping there is a way to do this in excel using functions that I just haven't found yet as this is a process that I currently do manually across hundreds of cells. Would appreciate any help or advice to streamline this process, thanks!65Views0likes3CommentsOneNote Searching (Indexing ?) Problem (Bug)
This seems to be some sort of bug in the OneNote Search feature (or maybe me). [By the way, I LOVE the Search feature - OneNote is rather useless (for me) without it.] My research into the problem leads me to believe it has something to do with Indexing. Anyway, anything I enter into OneNote now (except for the Title) cannot be found by the OneNote Search feature. My recent problem is in searching for a name (Scott). Search can find old entries with the name Scott and can even find a Scottsdale entry - and Search can find Scott in the Title of a recent entry but cannot find any of the other recent Note entries with Scott in the body (3 of them as a test). I also note that if I manually go to the page with a recent Scott entry, the word Scott is highlighted - but the Notes' containing Scott in it does not appear in the list of notes containing Scott. My OneNote file is huge, probably hundreds of notes (if not thousands) and the Search feature has always worked flawlessly, until now. Can OneNote get too big for Search to work? I really need this feature to work - anyone know what is going on here. ron in shawnee42Views0likes3Comments- 27Views0likes2Comments
Outlook for the web - some tenants not showing reply/forwarded icons in message list
Hi, (Outlook for the web) I wondered if anyone has experienced this and knows of any way to resolve it. One of my users is reporting that (and I have seen it) new replies are not being "flagged" with the reply icon in the message list. This appears to happen regardless of whether the email is in the inbox or a subfolder. Older emails (that have been replied-to or forwarded prior to today) are showing the relevant icons to indicate that a reply has been sent and it only appears to be affecting new replies/forwards. I've been through all the view settings in and nothing helps. I even tried crazy things like changing themes. This doesn't appear to be consistent across tenants either. I've seen 1 tenant with it working and another with it not working. Regards, Paul9.5KViews0likes9Commentsthose annoying ~$ files
My Word (using Mac Sonoma) leaves behind these ~$ files. They are supposed to be temporary, but they look like files I was last dealing with months ago. They are NOT temporary. I wanted to clean them up, and rm ~$* doesn't do the trick. What works well is rm -i './~$'* . Go figure. Now, WHY are these files getting left behind by Word and polluting my Desktop folder?9Views0likes0CommentsWord document is displayed different on different systems
Hi, I've a word document that, when I open it on my local Mac with Office365, has 17 pages. When I export it to a pdf (electronic version) it suddenly become 16 pages as the document is more compressed, which is a strange behaviour. So I tested it on two other platforms, one Windows PC and another Macbook Air, and there the document has also 16 pages and looks like the exported pdf. The same applies for a colleague who also has 16 pages when open it. So the problem seems to be related with my local configuration. In addition to this strange behaviour, my word version don't open the printing dialog and also exporting a pdf as printable version leads to an error. Excel, for example, opens the printer dialog. Anything I can do to fix this issue? It's really annoying and a NO GO that the same document looks different. I'm using a Macbook Pro M1 with Tahoe 26.2 and Word Version 16.105.3 (26020123)29Views0likes1CommentDoes Microsoft have an employee directory?
Hi everyone, Quick question for the group. My company uses Microsoft Teams every day, and people are constantly trying to find the right person internally, who owns what, who reports to who, who sits in which team/department, etc. Teams search and profile cards help a bit, but we’re really looking for a proper employee directory, specifically: A clean employee directory experience (not scattered across different places). Rich employee profiles (photo, title, department, manager, contact info, location, etc.). Strong employee search (by name, department, role, location, ideally more) Is there a native employee directory in Microsoft 365 that does this well out of the box. If not, what are people using instead, SharePoint, Viva, custom build, or a third-party directory that pulls from Entra ID / M365? Would love to hear what’s working in real life.Solved38Views1like1CommentSame number at several places in document. When I change one I want them all to change?
If I have a number like BC#6543 mentioned several times in my document, I want to be able to change one of the instances and then all the other instances will change as well. How would I set this up?15Views0likes1CommentPAGE BREAK 365 WORD DOC doesn't work
Hello The page break on 365 word docs don't work properly. The create an enormous space between one page and the following, making it very difficult to work with for presentation, taking into account that the company only allows these type of docs to work with. In the attach image you can see how large these breaks are with the circles in red. I've tried all options in paragraph options but it doesn't word. I've tried help with the assistance of an AI but it has given up saying there might be some limitations to these type of pages. Anyone know what I can do to avoid these large page breaks in 364 Word docs? Thank you very much in advance Alberto166Views0likes2CommentsHow to Deactivate an Entra ID Application
This article explores how to deactivate applications (aka disable apps) in Entra ID. Everything is done through PowerShell and the Microsoft Graph PowerShell SDK because the feature isn’t currently available in the Entra admin center. We’ve even included a fully functional example script to show you how the process works. Feel free to fix or enhance our code in GitHub! https://office365itpros.com/2026/02/11/deactivate-application-entra/12Views0likes0CommentsNo stocks button/option
I have an active Microsoft 365 subscription through my Apple ID. But the Stocks button is completely missing from the Data tab. This issue occurs in both the Excel for Mac app (version 16.105.3) and Excel Online. My privacy settings for "Connected Experiences" are all enabled. I've already run the Office License Removal Tool and logged in again, but to no avail. Since the feature is also missing in the web version, it appears to be an issue with my Microsoft account configuration itself. Microsoft support can't see my settings and refers me to this forum. Does anyone have any ideas?32Views0likes2CommentsAssist me with Shared Mailbox Alias Configuration in Outlook 365
We have a shared mailbox with different email alias configurations for various applications. Each application needs to send emails using its respective alias. Shared Mailbox Name: email address removed for privacy reasons Application 1: From email ID – email address removed for privacy reasons Application 2: From email ID – email address removed for privacy reasons Similarly, I need to define aliases for each application. Could you please assist me with setting this up in Outlook 365? Additionally, could you explain if there are any limitations related to using aliases?203Views0likes3Comments
