Technically octopi are already sentient, OP just capitalized the S
Paying your way through college by selling weed or doing Only Fans or whatever is infinitely more honorable than joining the military to get an education. Never forget community college is an option and you do not have to contribute to American imperialism to attend. I knew a girl who had scholarships but sold her dirty socks and underwear to pervs online for living expenses and she is stronger than any US marine for that.
This person wrote a manifesto I ain’t reading all that but this is literally the type of behavior im talking about the idea hobbies all cost money is so removed from reality if you have the time to pick up your phone and write 7 paragraphs on how im victimizing you with my offhanded post you have the time to watch a movie on YouTube with your very same phone instead come on now. How is you freaking out on the internet helping any of these issues
things that dont cost money: hiking, walking, birdwatching, identifying plants, drawing (you have a pen, reading (library), collecting rocks, dancing, singing.... etc wtc etc
if you cant find a hobby you can afford, thats a you problem. and if youre posting online, you have a device to do that, get some free games, trawl wikipedia, study something. stop picking fights online and do something else.
if you can write an essay about it on your phone you can write fanfic or poetry or something on your phone also and it will be much nicer for everyone involved, including you
Facebook buy nothing groups exist, btw. There's probably plenty of people there who started a hobby, realised they didn't like it/got bored of it, and all that stuff is sitting there waiting for somebody to come get it.
"I wanna knit/crochet/embroider/whatever art, but I have no money :(" There's probably somebody out there (and probably even close by) who wants nothing more than to get rid of a part of their stash and/or unused tools.
If you can write an essay on your device, you can go on FB (or reddit) and see if anyone's giving away something you're interested in, for free.
Libraries also host free game sessions, puzzles gatherings, have materials (either books or actual physical materials you can take home with you) for various hobbies and crafts. They also often have free passes to go to museums and other places that also offer free activities to do.
Mutual aid and community groups/community centers/rec centers also are a great way to connect to resources and people.
Join a pick up game at a local park if you like sports. Email a local craft group/guild and see if they know of any places where materials are donated because you are interested in trying but you have a limited budget.
Many adult education classes, including hobby stuff, from nonprofit orgs like museums, commonly have a few scholarship spots or special funds to help people take part.
Or, hell, take up cloud watching or play I-Spy while on your errands.
Somewhat related to that post but for the love of God PLEASE clean the slimy algae off patios and walkways, especially if you live in a wet climate. I have a scar under my chin from slipping on the algae-covered brick walkway in front of my childhood home and sliding like 3 feet. It doesn’t seem like that big of a deal until you are in the ER at 11 pm holding your child’s chin back together.
really fucking boils my cabbages when the right is completely correct that something is a problem in society they're just hyperbolically stupid about why.
eg falling birth rates are not a problem because something something the future of the white race and they're a sign that modern women aren't sufficiently interested in staying home and making babies. they are however a problem because a society with no economic safety net is not prepared to manage a demographic shift toward having more retired people than working people and they're a sign that millions of adults in 2026 do not feel financially stable enough to add to their families
i hope something good happens to me. i hope something good happens to you too. i hope something good happens to all of us soon
Having treatment resistant depression makes you feel like such a Debbie downer loser of a person. You go through periods of trying very hard to get better and then give up when it doesn’t work and resign yourself to being mentally ill and miserable for the rest of your life. Then you go “I have to try to get better.” and the cycle continues.
