Tbh the more I think about post canon the more I wonder why Roxy didn’t fall off the wagon back into their old habits, because it would have been in character and a tragically realistic depiction of how one can slide back into addiction. Especially in Candy, where they become especially depressed.
But instead they kinda just fade into the background and stops gaf about anything going on, only to come back in and wag their finger at people for doing anything.
As much as I enjoy the new species introduced in Homestuck 2 I kinda hope they don’t go with the “Dirk’s society is male only because Dirk hates women” bc like.
You do realize that Dirk got sexually harassed by his female friend for years trying to rope him into giving her babies right. Then she started e-rping with the glasses version of himself, negatively comparing him to Dirk because he plays along with her fantasies. Do you think a society without women and therefore the expectations of heterosexuality might be freeing for him
I remember I got a comment on this post to the effect of “but gay men can misogynistic” and well. I don’t disagree but I don’t think Dirk is one of them.
The only male friend he had was Jake and Caliborn wasn’t even a friend, just an internet troll Dirk indulged in. In fact, Dirk discouraged Caliborn’s bullying of her and said “Hey, maybe you guys can bond over this since it’s a similar interest”.
But he genuinely likes Jane? Sure he may have subconsciously saw her as a rival for Jake’s affection, but he still valued her as his friend. He still went out of his way to protect and help Roxy even after her inappropriate boundaries. He’s even receptive to Calliope’s fanfiction and doesn’t berate her for it. Even in the epilogues he and Rose are basically just playing IRL Civ with each other.
“Dirk is a misogynist” yet all his closest confidants are women. Curious.
How I feel having the foresight to make that other post unrebloggable
I do think Homestucks are eventually gonna have to talk about how a section of the fandom remade gender essentialism but woke by making women perpetual victims and men perpetual abusers by nature. Likewise, the weird way they tend to treat sexuality as an indication of someone’s morality. (And almost always, a character must be attracted to women to be good)
Unfortunately you bring that up and suddenly it’s abstracted to “Ugh, look who thinks men are oppressed 🙄” like please man no one is saying that.
Honestly it is strange how often I see people leverage the idea of ‘Comp het’ towards the female characters.
It’s a given that Jake is into Blue ladies and initially was unsure if he’d even like men, but Jane’s attraction to mustached funnymen must be illegitimate somehow. Even though both are continually referenced as quirks of their character.
Gamzee is attracted to men and women, but Vriska can’t be attracted to both. Her crush on John and Nic Cage were performative (for whomst?) but Terezi was real.
Obviously, Karkat is bisexual because he’s had vocal crushes on men and women, but Roxy, who also had vocal crushes on both genders, is somehow just forcing herself to like men.
Jake’s attraction to women is still real even if his relationships with them were forceful or toxic, but Terezi’s relationships with men are illegitimate because they were toxic. But when Terezi was with a woman, that was less toxic- uh, just ignore what Vriska actually did.
