it turns out i really enjoy making educational posts about the comics making process and ways of thinking. here's another one featuring characters from my graphic novel in a very anachronistic art museum.
tragic when a thing gets hate for being 'woke trash' and you look into it and its not even that woke. like cmon man i was promised monacle popping gay commie propaganda. this is just a video game with a woman in it.
they need to invent clubbing for boring sober people who don't like loud music or crowded group dancing. what's the "she should be at the club" for this hypothetical not-me demographic.
roundup of various common suggestions in the notes:
- "the library": a nice space to hang, granted, but not really the same fun social vibes.
- "the night-library that serves pink drinks and tea": okay okay, now we're cooking.
- "coffee shop": a bit more social and rambunctious than the average library, but still too plain imo.
- "the museum": still a tad too formal I feel like but definitely not opposed.
- "the book club": again, not opposed, but book clubs do have the catch of requiring you to plan ahead and do some homework to really enjoy it, not a very "I'm bored on a friday and want to go do something fun" activity.
- "wine tasting":
- "dnd/ttrpg nights": unfortunately I'm stupid and am bad at these games. I mean unfortunately these hypothetical people are stupid and bad at these games.
- "arcades with cover fees at the door and then free games": won't even lie this sounds killer, gonna see if they have any of those in my area.
- "babe the club is wherever you feel confident in yourself, life is a club and I’m just chilling at a bus stop": beautiful. poetic. heart warming. she should be at the bus stop.

people should be allowed to have low ambition, and also be able to feed a family on the salary of a cashier at a convenience store.
My very first job was at Taco Bell, and most of us working there were horrible young adults with horrible young adult problems, but one of my coworkers was a woman in (I think) her 50s.
And us horrid young adults would ask her why she still worked at Taco Bell, because it was starter job and who would want to stay there forever? Her response?
“I make enough money to make sure I always have roses in my bedroom.”
This answer changed me as a person. It changed the way I thought about what makes someone successful, and made me step back and realize that I was so caught up in what I thought success and happiness should mean that I didn’t know what I wanted them to mean.
Which is to say that sometimes ambition is making enough money to keep fresh roses in your bedroom, and you should be able to do that working at Taco Bell.
how is it that i’ve spent 24 years on this earth without knowing who Woody Strode was?
for those who don’t know Woody Strode was a Black American actor that was primarily active in the late 50s and 60s. his grandmother was Black Cherokee and his grandfather was Black Creek. he was a world-class decathlon and was culturally educated, majoring in history and culture, to the extent that in 1971 he said “I could walk into the White House with it now.” he served in the Air Force during World War II. he starred as the first Black lead in a mainstream cowboy movie in Sergeant Rutledge (1960). his first wife was Princess Luukialuana Kalaeloa, a distant relative of Liliuokalani, the last queen of Hawaii, and they were married until her death. he was also an accomplished martial artist. oh, and Sheriff Woody from Toy Story was named after him.
Strode also broke the NFL color barrier with Kenny Washington in 1946 (they played college football at UCLA, where one of their teammates was Jackie Robinson). Strode is probably best-known for his role in Spartacus where he fights Kirk Douglas with a trident. And he appeared in a lot of Westerns - The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, The Professionals and Once Upon a Time in the West are all classics. A really awesome, underrated actor and I’m glad to see him on my dash tonight.

AWESOME Actor!!!!
[images are of Woody Strode, a muscular, tall, and slim Black man with CHEEKBONES FOR DAYS MY GOODNESS. The photos are largely stills from his films, varyingly showing him in a US cavalry uniform, in football gear, as a gladiator fighting Spartacus, holding a shotgun in a b&w period film, bare-chested wearing a vest, and stood in front of a steam train wearing a black cowboy hat and purple shirt.]
