stuff u might see here: hades, pjo, atla, mlb, fma, aa, st, and random things i find funny… uh is anyone actually reading this?

ok I just need to establish some stuff about Mike and Mileven in canon for myself...

  1. Mike doesn't kiss his gf this whole season and when he does it's in the mind space and not even actually happening???
  2. Half of the memories of Mileven just casually have Will in them??
  3. Mike is genuinely just kind of homophobic?? Like he had those fights with Will bc of homophobia that wasn't internalized and then proceeded to not even hug his best friend?? Presumably bc he thought said bsf was gay???
  4. Mileven just casually gets paralleled to non-romantic relationships EVEN IN THE LAST SEASON???
  5. Mike gets paralleled to Dr. Brenner, El's abuser and overall just doesn't understand her or what she needs but yet she forgives him for everything???

What is show even

related to my previous post: this is my POV on the eternal "it is/n't that deep" debate always going on with everything, as someone who now just goes "cool okay whatever" and leaves when something disappoints me instead of wasting time raging about what went wrong or waiting around for it to get better. i think it's good to have all those crazy what-if thought experiments, but i also think you need to make sure you're not setting yourself up for heartache! be nice to yourself and be nice to other people (as the moral so often is...)

No one owes artists anything.

But existence is lonely and sometime you throw hours and hours of effort into a void, on the slim chance it will say something back.

it does still make me insane specifically how many queer people lovingly embrace astrology. I went to a poetry workshop yesterday that was genuinely quite good but also included an option to disclose astrology designations during introductions and so many people broke out some variation of "I'm a [x] sum but I have a [y] placement and it SHOWS" girl no it doesn't. that's meaningless correlation you completely invented the causation

I'd say that rejecting biological determinism in favor of space gas determinism isn't the slay the astrology queers think it is but if I'm being completely honest I fear that many members of our community haven't even really rejected biological determinism so much as sprinkled a layer of glitter on it

yes that's how confirmation bias works

People get their panties up in a twist about astrology because they think it’s people shoving themselves into boxes that are not pre-existing.

Most people who like astrology like it because it reflects things about themselves that they relate to that they have difficulty vocalizing themselves. And things like doing a chart reading can allow you to gaze deeply into yourself

yes that's how confirmation bias works

OP what wizard did you cut off in traffic to get cursed like this

This is the Extinct Species Graveyard at the Bronx Zoo in New York. The only “gravestone” not included in this post is that of the Labrador Duck.

I was very pleased to find this little display at the zoo even though some of the dates are inaccurate.

The simple fact that humanity can eradicate an animal that evolved with us, even before us, is abhorrent.

The fact that we can then forget them, truly haunts me.

Hey! If you guys appreciate this work from the Bronx Zoo I highly recommend checking out the work of artist and biologist Brandon Ballengée!

My favourite work from him, is The Frameworks of Absence. He cuts the species out of famous illustrations of extinct species and burns them in a pyre, before putting the ashes in a urn.

I’ve had the extreme pleasure of seeing his work in person and talking with him about it. His entire body if work covers a wide range of environmental issues including, one of his most spectacular displays is one detailing the effects of the BP oil spill on the Gulf Coast. His work is incredibly thoughtful and moving and I highly recommend giving him a look.

some birds are very intuitively named. looked up a sparrow going chipchipchip in my yard, it was a chipping sparrow. saw a black bird with red wings, it was a red winged blackbird. gray bird that sounds like a cat? gray catbird. the first time i saw a house finch it was perched on a windowsill. However, some birds are the red-bellied woodpecker

I gotta google something real quick

who named this bird

I have to say, I don’t ship byler, I’ve never been invested in it, but if the writers had chosen to go that direction and set it up to be endgame, it would’ve been far more interesting than the mileven plot.

(Also, if you’re writing an unrequited crush where you don’t intend on them ever getting together, that is something that should be established and acknowledged by the the second season, and definitely be resolved by the third.)

All those Mike and eleven scenes were such a slog to get through. They just bogged down the whole show for me. And it’s so weird too. Like, why are these 14 year olds making out? Especially when one of them has been locked in a lab her whole life and is severely developmentally delayed as a result. She needs a therapist, not a boyfriend.

Would’ve been cute if they had the typical middle school romance where a boy and a girl will have a crush on eachother, be boyfriend and girlfriend for maybe two weeks, then breakup and just go back to being friends. That is the quintessential middle school romantic experience, and definitely would’ve been better for El than the weirdly serious mellow dramatic on again off again thing she had going on with the first boy she’s ever met. She should’ve been allowed to move on, make more friends, and have other crushes, like a normal teenager.
