A Blog With Sturf

A dork that wants to make video games.

It's actually so fucking weird that your identity is absolute these days. like, it's been normalized to the point we don't think of it much, but until a hundred years ago, hell even less, you could just kinda. go somewhere else, and be a new person. and that's not a thing anymore.

Yk this is fully untrue right? You can fully still do this if you're willing to change and let go of everything at literally any moment you want

since a good few people now have said this i want to be clear: you can move to a new town still and change socially, but like. the government still knows who you are. so do tons of corporations. your identity follows you.

13 hours later and the parade of stupid comments like this has not stopped =_=

a guy named Rusty cage did a video on how it's impossible to leave your identity behind unless you become a eunuch

fuck hermit I meant hermit

Identity is stored in the balls.

people saying “don’t use your full government name for your ao3”, “create different emails for work and personal use” but personally I think it’s both sad and dystopian how capitalism/companies/even schools think they have the rights to cross your personal boundaries and insert themselves into your personal life. like, I get it, safety wise, why checking digital footprints can be important sometimes. but a gay fanfiction is not a fucking threat that could ever cause anybody harm. it’s funny (not really, it’s still sad and dystopian) how they now think they can control your personal life and prevent you from having hobbies

Is multiculturalism not a culture? By definition it’s many cultures

"Americans have no culture" is one of those things that sounds deep but is just "racism/xenophobia but make it left wing." There's Black American culture, Jewish American culture, Irish American culture, Chinese American culture, Mexican American culture, Indian American culture, Persian American culture, Italian American culture, etc. Literally hundreds of different Native American cultures. And, yes, even generic white American culture.

Generally "white people have no culture" is a red flag that someone is so immersed in white culture that they can't even tell anymore. Fish don't know they're wet, etc. I've had conversations with almost every immigrant I know about American culture, because they've all had to adjust to it.

  • Hotdish/Casserole
  • Genuine Not Faked Friendliness to strangers [that meet arbitrary racial/ethnic requirements]
  • Baseball, Gridiron Football, and Basketball as primary sports to follow and play in high school rather than Association Football
  • For that matter, High School Football
  • Apple Cider [nonalcoholic variant]
  • Lemonade [noncarbonated]
  • Beverage With Ice In It in general as default
  • Tex-Mex
  • Barbecue (Carolina, Memphis, Texas, Kansas City)
  • Comic Books (Jewish culture rather than White, but still American)
  • Jazz, Rock and Roll, Rap, The Blues (African-American culture rather than White, but still American)
  • Macaroni and Cheese
  • Immigrant Fusion Cuisines (Italian-American and Chinese-American in particular are iconic cuisines distinct to American communities of those peoples, fusion of their home cuisine and the local ingredients and palates)
  • Pumpkin flavored foods and Pumpkin Spice flavored foods
  • The Imperial measuring system (argue whether its good culture or bad culture, its still culture!)
  • Corn grits, corn bread, corn on the cob, CORN
  • Thanksgiving / making the Fall Harvest Festival a Really Big National Holiday Deal
  • Spring Break, Summer Camp

Outside of America, everyone knows what American culture is, we see it on TV and on the Internet. I have zero reasons to expect an American claiming they have no culture is a smart person if they can't look into a mirror.

Other things that are American culture:

  • Free refills
  • Yellow school buses
  • Using cars to drive everywhere
  • Suburbia
  • Shopping malls
  • Corn dogs
  • Tipping
  • Halloween (look, I know it's derived from Samhain but it's so different, it's basically it's own thing)
  • Deer hunting season
  • National parks
  • Disney movies
  • Cartoons (not all but a lot)
  • Silicon Valley start ups
  • Deep frying everything
  • Putting the American flag on absolutely everything for no damn reason

A bunch of microsoft logos from the 70s, 80s, 90s and today but instead of saying Microsoft all of them spell Microslop in the vibe of the original logos.
