untitled (Amy/Ian)
Rating: K
Pairing: Amy/Ian
Prompt: "Iamy + Harry Potter"
Notes: Makie wouldn’t share it cause she said it’s for my birthday, but I want to cause I want it to be somewhere forever (ie. in case I accidentally delete all my messages again.)
If there was one thing Amy Cahill hated more than missing classes, that thing was Ian Kabra. With his cinnamon skin and golden eyes, he was the most egotistical person in all of Hogwarts. He was gorgeous and he knew it, and nothing made a person less attractive than that. At least, that’s what Amy believed. His perfectly sculpted face gave him a silhouette of utter confidence — the annoying kind. He always raised his hand to answer everything, and he knew everything. He was a favorite of all the teachers, and probably one of the few students who kept Slytherin up in terms of house points.
Amy decided the first day he bumped into her — it was Christmas of her first year, she wanted to go home to see her brother, but she wasn’t able to bring herself to leave the magnificent grounds — that she didn’t like him. He had bumped into her, made her drop her books, yet the snobby eleven year old had blamed it on her, didn’t even help to pick up what he’d caused her to drop. An upperclassman — a Gryffindor like her — found her sniveling in a corner. His name was Jake, and he told her not to mind the Slytherins — some of them were pretty snobby, but some were also fairly nice (Amy’s faith in Slytherins being kind was restored when her brother was sorted into the house a few years later).
She was seventeen now, her Hogwarts education nearing its end. As much as she hated missing classes, she was really hating herself right now. She was skipping class — purposefully missing a wonderful class! — in order to meet the boy who has caused the majority of her disdain.
Of course, the note was not signed, but Ian’s chicken scratch was hard to mistake.
As much as she hated this boy, there was no denying that she felt affection towards him as well. In recent years, Ian had become quieter. She heard rumors that his parents were divorcing, but she didn’t think that would silence Ian Kabra. There must’ve been more to it, but Amy was not one to pry. He started answering less and less, Amy saw that his notes were becoming sloppier. He stopped making fun of others, he simply walked to and from classes and hardly bothered in talking to his friends. Not only was his head beginning to deflate, his sister also joined the school. Dan, Amy’s brother, would tell her how annoyingly protective Ian was of her, that it reminded him of how protective Amy was of him, but worse. He started branching out to other houses to make friends — though he only had a Hufflepuff (a small girl named Elizabeth) to show for his efforts. His Quidditch skills didn’t change though, he was still Slytherin’s star player. Amy may hate that smirk of his, but she would be the first to admit that his resolve was admirable.
Maybe that was why she had decided to accept the note’s invitation — she admired him somewhat. She didn’t like him in any kind of romantic way. His grades and his resolve and his care for his sister were why she was meeting him.
A shiver ran through her — the castle was awfully cold this time of the year. Perhaps she still had time to make it to her class. She was a good student, her professor might let the tardiness pass with a warning.
It was then that she heard footsteps. It was then that she became rigid with nerves. Her face became warm suddenly, and she cursed herself for being so easy to make blush.
She was suddenly aware that the person coming might be a professor and panicked. There was no place around her where she could hide. If it was a professor, she was doomed.
Thankfully, or perhaps not, it was the boy she was supposed to be meeting.
He seemed shocked at first, to see her there. Perhaps it was a mistake, perhaps he’d meant to send it to another green eyed Gryffindor.
“Amy,” he said, “you came.”
So it was no mistake. “Y-yes.”
He smiled, apparently not noticing her glaring failure of the spoken language. “I’m glad.”
She lowered her head, trying to get her hair to cover her red cheeks. “I can see that. I didn’t realize you knew how to smile.”
The smile disappeared, he seemed hurt. Amy smiled now, had she actually hurt Ian Kabra?
“What do you want to talk about, Ian?”
He snapped back into reality, turning away from Amy and looking at the musty wall. Amy could’ve sworn his cheeks reddened. “I-I just wanted to know if you’d maybe be interested in going on a date… with me… sometime.”
She looked up at him, her hanging open ever so slightly. It hadn’t been surprised — Ian had asked her out many times before, each time more extravagantly than the last.
No, perhaps it was surprise. They were by themselves — not in front of a group, where they usually were when Ian asked her this question — and they were also in a musty old hallway. Ian’s tastes were far more refined than this place.
But Amy’s tastes weren’t. She loved this hallway — the oldness of it reminded her of how long Hogwarts had been around, that she was a part of a great legacy. Was he actually being serious this time?
He ran a hand through his hair, “I know that you’ve always said no before, but I’m going to keep asking.” He swallowed a lump in his throat. “Because I really like you.” He scratched his chin. “I know you like this hallway, so I thought it’d be nice—”
“One date.” She said suddenly.
“Pardon?”
She took a deep breath and stared into his (very confused) eyes. “One date. If you’re still a jerk, then it’s over.”
He nodded, not quite registering the insult. “I promise, it’ll be fantastic.”
Something in her heart fluttered a bit. Perhaps it was that she’d broken a rule for a great, legitimate reason (though she’d never admit that out loud) or perhaps it was because she had a date with a boy she’d been eyeing since her second year (something she’d also never admit, especially when she had everyone convinced she’d hated him). Regardless why the fluttering was there, she liked it quite a bit.
