Thank you ❤️

Hi! I was pointed to your tumblr by a few folks and I just wanted to thank you for your thoughtfulness in writing about and interacting with the LiS games and the community. I love how you engage with others and their comments, and it shows what a curious mind and kind heart is at work. It is such an honor to have made a game you love and to have brought to life a character to whom you can relate. Thank you for what you put out into the world (we need more of this kind of passion), I hope you never stop. -Erika

No way. No fucking way. First off, THANK YOU. I am utterly starstruck. You’re thanking ME?? And calling it an honor to have made a game that I love?? I should be thanking you!! The asks I’ve received showed me how many people from all walks of life found something in Alex that helped them feel seen and less alone, so from me and the rest of the LiS community, THANK YOU!!!
I can’t really say much more about your performance that I haven’t said already, but it really did grab me from the start and it was all I could think about after I finished the game. I hope you know just how much Alex means to so many fans, especially during a pandemic. And your engagement with D9 and fans really does have such a huge reach— your interviews with Webb and SE made me smile and laugh even on my bad days. I’ve admired from afar how well-spoken, kind, and funny(!!!) you are, and I can’t believe I can finally say it to you directly! I’m so happy you got the opportunity to bring Alex to life and were nominated for those awards because I can’t think of anyone better for the part!
I never could have anticipated that my random commentary on True Colors could have such an impact and stretch as far as D9! I can’t thank you enough for the encouragement and for taking the time to send such a heartfelt message. I promise I will never stop! :)
This is hands-down the best birthday gift I could’ve ever gotten. Thank you times a million!

The standoff with agents happened on Jan. 8, one day after an ICE agent shot and killed Renee Good in south Minneapolis. Wooten’s refusal to comply with ICE was captured on video and posted to Facebook.

The agents tried everything to intimidate the guard.

“You can’t come back here, bro,” Wooten can be heard in the video saying to an agent wearing a mask and sunglasses. “I’m talking to your manager,” the agent said. Wooten responded: “No, you’re talking to security, I’m in charge.”

ICE left empty-handed. Wooten said he just stood his ground, “10 toes down.”

“I was doing my job like I’m supposed to,’’ Wooten said. “If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything. I just want to make my family safe because I’ve been here three years.”

On Finn on SNL…

Before we get upset, let’s have a think and digest. Some initial thoughts I had - why were there so many queer/gay jokes about Finn/Mike? Every. single. skit.

Many of the writers of SNL are queer themselves, and it would be odd for them to make fun of people thinking a character (i.e. Mike) is gay and shipping him with a canonically gay character (i.e. Will).

Especially considering that yes, while Bylers are a loud part of the fandom, we’re still in the minority compared to the GA.

So, why do an SNL sketch that, on the surface, seems to be ‘mocking’ Bylers (i.e. mocking the idea that anyone could ever interpret Mike as being queer). Feels weird right?

And they also didn’t outright mock Byler - they just made fun of the length of Will’s coming out scene and how it dragged on because Will seemingly kept dancing around the word 'gay’ and convincing everyone he was just a normal dude.

If they were really going to 'mock Bylers’, gayness wouldn’t have been the core theme of the whole SNL show. It would’ve been an offhand jab or one scene. I’m sure that, if S5 was true queerbait, adding fuel to the fire in this manner wouldn’t bode well for Netflix, the Duffers and even Finn himself in the long run.

To me, the fact that every single skit and every single joke was somehow related to Finn being queer (or portraying a queer character) felt like they were intentionally making fun of the GA for not picking up on the queercoding of Mike Wheeler.

He’s queercoded to different degrees in every skit and the writers are literally asking us - how obvious does it need to be before people catch on?

  • Heated Wizardry - this speaks for itself (explicit)
  • Boys day - this is a jab at Mike and El’s relationship. Finn is portraying a 'straight’ character who has a tomboy girlfriend and clearly doesn’t realise that the only reason he’s into her is because he perceives her as 'one of the boys’
  • The dark orbit - he’s literally erotically being spoonfed syrup by a man who he then kisses on the cheek
  • Mike Wheeler as Carrie Bradshaw aka the stereotypically 'fruity’ gay who gossips, sniffs coke and loves cocktails. 11 being portrayed by a man at the end… (bonus point: Ted Wheeler mention using blue and yellow text)
  • Finn’s monologue joke about being scared of demos who look like female genitalia (we were literally making the same jokes about the huge CGI monster in the finale)
  • The podcast skit - “I’m not trying to walk around all thick scaring the huzz” - mocking the chronically online redditors/podcasters who make blatantly homoerotic comments (but no homo though!)

There’s probably more I’m missing but I mean… come on …

I highly doubt this was supposed to be a homophobic campaign, as people are making it out to be - 2026 is bleak, but it’s not THAT bleak!!!

(remember that Heated Rivalry, of all shows, has hit mainstream media and is thriving!!!)

EDIT: to add to this, I think the ultimate message is: which gay stereotype do we need to adopt for people to get the message?

Season 4 OBVIOUSLY depicts Mike as being in love with Will’s feelings - shouldn’t that be enough? Why do we need to shoehorn him into a box for people to UNDERSTAND?

annoying this with LIS:DE and its sequel is that it could have been an interesting character study or they could have at least let it be weird and unique but they refuse to stray from the incredibly stale formula and it reeks not only of fanservice but also being sanitised particularly the new cast (maybe minus Safi but even then idk I wish more was done with her and I’m not loving the direction they’re taking her plot even if I think conceptually there was potential), like while LIS has a lot of flaws I did like that it felt different and more real and messy which increasingly the franchise does not.

Yeah exactly, and Deck Nine focusing increasingly on powers, flashy sequences (like Max swapping out the lake to save Safi), and this Avengers plot proves they’re failing to see that Life is Strange was always a character first, plot second story. Dontnod never explained where Max’s powers come from because it’s irrelevant; the focus is on how Max’s powers let her save Chloe’s life and atone for the five years she didn’t show up for Chloe. They lean into the slow, character-focused storytelling even more in Lost Records, where plenty of scenes are just there for the vibes and character banter and they never explain the origin of the Abyss, and it was still a great game!

What really sucks is that DE had some interesting ideas but none of them were properly executed in the end. It’s cool to see shapeshifting in a LiS game, as well as finally see two powered people meet, but it didn’t have to be Max. We could’ve played as someone else meeting Safi. Same with meeting a powered person who’s more morally gray than Max and has ulterior motives with their powers, but even then, LiS2 already tackled that concept when you could raise Daniel with low morality into an anti-hero who has no problem killing a bunch of cops at the end of the game.

I think what makes LiS1 endearing despite its flaws is again, the people making it loved what they were doing. Innuendo Studios called it an “earnestness” that you can’t help but love. Dontnod games are so sincere and their attention to detail, from foley to handpainted textures in LiS1, feels so authentic. DE looks way too polished, too corporate, and kinda soulless. DN’s not afraid to be cringe while D9’s humor is… actually cringe lol.
