• hello this is a pinned post bcus i realized it’d be nice to have a little overview type thing

my name is opal, i use they/them and ze/hir pronouns, i alternate between the two when talking about myself but feel free to use one or the other more if that’s easier. i’m a nonbinary butch lesbian, and if you’d like to know more specifics i have an about page here

this is a personal blog so i just kind of post about whatever comes to mind. my queue is Very long so things will probably come around as a “really, this late?” somewhat often lmao

i do a handful of creative things! i do digital and ink painting, writing, and occasionally voice/audiobook work, all of which you can find under this tag! i also have commissions open which are here. i run a youtube channel that i post on whenever i have the energy to do so, and a twitch channel that i want to get back to streaming semi-regularly on (~1-3 times a week)

i pretty much always have writing going on in the background of my life, so if you want to keep up with it, you can find my ao3 here or see it whenever i randomly post writing to tumblr

my icon is by my wonderful friend @impmakesart and you can find that post here!

anyway thanks for checking out my blog and i hope you have a good day <3

also it does feel insane how many articles will straight up say this shit and see 0 issues at all with outright pathologizing huge swathes of woman of color who have more body hair than the “average” white woman but you know im sure diagnostic criteria falls from the sky

  • Maybe white girls just have a disease that makes them bald

  • with the Sir Cameron book, I was scared that people might find the dynamic between the knight and the mad sorcerer too uncomfortable (because when they start fucking, the knight is essentially still a hostage). BUT WHAT I DIDN'T SEE COMING was people feeling sorry for the mad sorcerer! I just read a review from the most beautiful soul on the planet, who was anxious about whether the mad sorcerer felt coerced. which is lovely, but also really funny because in the first sex scene Cameron is chained to the wall and gagged, so it's literally this:

  • it is of course fine to be a d&d 5e player but if you start pedantically bringing up 5e's specific distinction between warlocks wizards and sorcerers to people talking about literally any other fantasy media--or worse, real world folklore--you need to be sent to the nobilis gulags for a minimum of 6 years

  • I'm not experienced enough to speak authoritatively of this, but I feel like if you're doing RACK stuff that's potentially harmful either physically or emotionally, both domme and sub alike should have people in their lives besides each other that they can talk to about it instead of just each other. People whom they can both trust to take it with the nuance and understanding it deserves, and to not treat it like an inherent reason to dissolve the relationship or spread information about it around. Like, if something bad happens, it's probably gonna fuck *both of you* up. and you might not have the capacity to be fully emotionally available to support each other through that right away. and having outside people to go to who you can trust to say "oof, i'm sorry that happened, I know you knew the risks but it still definitely sucks when things go sideways. let's get you healing up a bit so you can discuss it with each other safely and figure out how to move forward." seems kinda important. It feels like an important part of addressing those risks.

  • There's nothing worse than when the concept for a piece of media feels like it was tailor-made for you in a lab but then you actually watch/read it and it turns out to be dreadful. The betrayal. The utterly dashed hopes. The annoyance that now you can't even write a good version of the concept because then everyone will go "Oh just like X!" and you will have to Bite them.

  • Holy **** oh right okay. So I was about to make a post about how using speech to text has already been a game changer for me but as you can see by the line of asterix at the start of this post the bloody thing auto censors swear words. (Yet bloody got through, ig Because it is a description and also British slang.). Hint: the word I was trying to say there starts with F and ends with K.

Oh and guess what else you can't say you can't say? **** [Nipples]. had to type that myself. penis is ok but **** [clitoris] isn't, and all my attempts to say "clit" were Misunderstood, which may just be my speech but at this point I am not willing to give the benefit of the doubt. Vagina is OK too but every time I say it there is a moment when an * shows up on screen first before the full word does. this doesn't happen when I say the word penis.

It is completely heinous. Anybody who needs speech to text is immediately forced to comply with the rules set out by people in a position of power and then enforced by a machine — a machine that is a very powerful accessibility tool. Imagine trying to dictate a letter to a doctor or fill in an E consult with speech to text, only to have words of your anatomy censored as if they are taboo. there is already far too much stigma around genital physical health — and note that I could say genital but can't say **** [clitoris] — for it to be okay for these words to be censored.

And even if somebody just wants to swear In a message to their friends or write smut/**** [pornography], they should be able to. There is no justification for this feature. No reason for it to be default.

I'm trying to find a way around this. There is a settings icon on the little speech to text bar that comes up, but this only gives me options For the speech typing launcher, auto punctuation, and to set the default microphone. it's making me extremely angry

  • “Doechii needs to credit the Kpop industry for the light sticks !”

You mean the same industry that’ll have their singers dressed like this talking about some “bratt tat tat gang gang gang pow pow running these streets like I’m bow wow” when they grew up in a rich Korean suburb and haven’t even seen a gun before, the same industry that has its rappers and singers do blaccents in their songs to the point it even bled into that kpop demon hunters movie and when black people pointed it out we were told “it isn’t that deep” when almost every kpop group has a photo of them doing blackface if you look or the fact that the kpop industry is credited with starting photo cards when those started all the way back in the day with Motown artists with Diana Ross and Michael Jackson and you want Doechii to credit them over some fucking light sticks that they didn’t even invent in the first place but they stole that too

Doechii can “give them credit” when the entire kpop industry gives credit to every African American entertainer that’s ever existed
