Schizospec culture is watching and reading stories where a character becomes a witch or animal and gets to live out in the woods forever and thinking that sounds so much better than your actual life and wishing you had that kind of opportunity, only to look at other people's reactions and realise you were meant to be offended by the character's choice or at least take pity on them for their “sad” fate.

i am polite, but i am not friendly. i don't consider that a moral failure on my part. not everyone is a "people person", not everyone has the energy, ability, or desire to be constantly talking to new people. if someone talks to me, i will respond, but i don't generally go out of my way to converse with people i don't know well.

children and teenagers are completely correct in how they feel about school and family btw, they just might not have the words for it that will get them taken seriously. let's be real though they wouldn't be taken seriously even if they worded it perfectly. youthlib now

I will never forget the time a classmate offhandedly said to me that his dad told him kids couldn't feel stress when he admitted to being stressed out.

I totally get people having a fear of being/becoming schizophrenic, especially people with OCD. As someone who has both, I can say that it's extremely difficult and often terrifying. But when people say that they fear having psychosis because they don't want to be dangerous or because they think it would mean life wouldn't be worth living, it crosses a line for me. We're statistically more likely to be victims of violence than perpetrators. Just because we experience things most people don't doesn't make us dangerous or scary. I also want to shut down the idea that it's a death sentence. It is difficult and life long, but there can still be joy. There can still be love and hope and fulfillment. It is scary to not 100% know what's real, and it's scary to be judged for things you can't control. But I still feel lucky to experience the beauty and joy of our world. Your fear is valid, but your judgement is not.

“Your fear is valid, but your judgement is not” really is the highlight of this post isn’t it? /pos

why are people so scared of teenagers seeing and interacting with nsfw content? you know what teenagehood is? what puberty is? why so scared then? why do you think a 17yo will combust on the spot when seeing nsfw but a 18yo will be just fine? why do you think a 14yo shouldn't know what sex is and explore their sexuality and themselves overall? why do you make sex ed and safe sexual exploration forbidden? what is fucking wrong with you all?

Doublets in Romanian

Romanian femeie (‘woman’) and familie (‘family’) stem from the same Latin word: ‘familiam’. Femeie was inherited from spoken Latin. It underwent the sound changes that turned Latin into Romanian – as well as a pecular meaning shift; more on that below. Familie, on the other hand, was borrowed from written Latin. Pairs like this are called doublets. Here’s number 6 in my doublet series: Romanian!

Femeie may look like female and feminine, but it’s not related to these words at all. Female stems from Latin fēmella, a diminutive of fēmina (‘woman’); feminine comes from a derived adjective.

The Latin ancestor of femeie is familia (‘household’), a word that’s related to famulus (‘domestic servant’). Romanian femeie still meant ‘family’ in older Romanian (a meaning that evolved from ‘household’) but it underwent a meaning shift to ‘woman’.

This type of meaning change is called totum pro parte, ‘the whole for a part’. It’s a kind of metonymy: the word for the whole (the family) comes to denote a part (the lady of the house). A totum pro parte is often used when talking about soccer teams: when we say that Ireland plays against Denmark, we don’t mean the entire countries but only their national teams.

A nice parallel can be found in Albanian: that language borrowed Latin familiam as fëmijë, but this word came to mean ‘child; offspring; todler’.

the people who deliberately misunderstand youth liberation really piss me off as an adult who was once a kid who wanted to run away and, while literally running away from home, realized they had nowhere else to go but back home. nowhere. no where! the only place i could go was back home to my abusive parents. youth liberation is creating a society wherein i, as a child, would have had a safe place to go that was not my home, where i could prioritize my and my brother's safety.

youth liberation is what helps children get the medical support they need, even if their parents are neglectful.

youth liberation educates the child so that the child has the necessary language to speak on their own behalf, as an agent of themselves with autonomy over themselves.

youth liberation demands we treat all children as what they are: future adults, who at all times have the right to autonomy over their body, and a right to a life free from abuse and exploitation. it would deny parents the ability to force (in the case of intersex "correction" surgeries) or deny medical care, deny them the ability to isolate and control their children through regulated forms of education like in homeschooling, and would instead give that power to the child and the child alone.

youth liberation is not only about preventing abuse before it happens, by demanding that children are treated with respect and as full agents over themselves, it is also about creating a supportive society that allows children to escape abusive situations to a community-based safe space.

everyone trying to argue youth lib is about "letting pedophiles hang out with children" are not only engaging in some of the most deliberate bad faith possible, they're purposefully ignoring the fact youth liberation would also protect and prevent child sexual abuse, which relies upon children being - to a certain extent - trapped, with no ability to leave the situation they're in themselves, at the hands of statistically family members, relatives, family friends, known babysitters, etc. children can only be trapped if they have nowhere else to go.

csa also relies on poor sex education - in fact, every single assault i faced was due to me not having been taught that what i experienced was assault at all. i was raised in an abusive home, and i came to earnestly believe that a relationship with a man necessitated my allowing him to use my body however he wanted, because that's what i saw growing up. my parents were poor educators, only giving us books they purchased about sex education for kids for us to read alone.

youth liberation is necessary, and any who tries to paint youth lib as evil, as a "pedophile" movement, is choosing to view the collective desire of abused kids and former kids who were abused - their desire for a better world where their abuse wouldn't have happened - as something destructive and negative and that's just disgusting to me. youth liberation now.

Learning a language is so wild. Beforehand the language is just some kinda interesting sounding gibberish and squiggles on a page. Just totally opaque. Might as well be Linear A. Afterward it’s like the most obvious thing in the world. Totally self-evident. Of course those words mean those things everybody knows that.

Okay you know what? Schizophrenia is way too demonized and, as someone who has had it for ten freaking years, I want to dispel some myths about hallucinations.

Aka talking about hallucinations using my own personal examples because I had an actual fucking THERAPIST tell me I was the ONLY person in the world who experienced hallucinations that were not solely visual or auditory. Warning for…hallucinations obviously.

Visual hallucinations - These are hallucinations you see. I usually experience these by way of inanimate objects moving (like dolls or mannequins moving on their own, before you ask yes I do hate clothing stores). Sometimes these can be scary and sometimes they’re mundane! I’ve hallucinated monsters and I’ve hallucinated pretty birds. Hallucinations don’t always have to be scary.

Auditory hallucinations - These are hallucinations you hear. I commonly hear crying, talking, music, and video game noises. If I play a video game for too long and it has a repetitive sound in it, I WILL be hearing that sound for minimum three hours. You think the sound that plays in LoZ when you’re low on hearts is annoying? Try having to listen to it on loop when you’re not even playing the game. Like with visual hallucinations, they’re not always scary! Contrary to popular belief, they can be totally mundane. Hearing voices is not always scary either. Sometimes they just say random stuff, sometimes they give me little pep talks, most of the time they just all talk over each other at once and I’m like GUYS ONE AT A TIME PLEASE jeezy cheez-it’s.

Tactile hallucinations - These are hallucinations you feel. I hear common tactile hallucinations are feelings of bugs on you and fur but I don’t usually have these, I mostly have tactile hallucinations of being choked which is…not fun.

Olfactory hallucinations - These are hallucinations you smell. Yeah I thought of farts first too. So far I haven’t heard of that being a common hallucination though. I hear a common olfactory hallucination is burning? But I just smell wet metal. I…don’t know why.

Gustatory hallucinations - These are hallucinations you taste. I don’t know how to pronounce gustatory either. I often taste blood or metal. I hear those are pretty common gustatory hallucinations.

None of these hallucinations are inherently scary! As a child, I thought hallucinations were a super power. After living with them for over ten years, they just don’t phase me that much. Remember: you don’t have to be schizophrenic to experience hallucinations! There are many things that cause hallucinations including and not limited to trauma, PTSD, psychotic depression, etc. (sometimes even stress!)

But please please please be kind to people who hallucinate. I’ve lived with it for over ten years and (rarely) it can still be terrifying to me sometimes. People say “But there’s nothing there and you know that-“ yes I know that! But it’s still very very real to me and very terrifying! Minimizing what people experience with their hallucinations is not helpful and will only make them feel worse.

Thank you for reading!

*guy looking down at you after beating the shit out of you* hey i really wanna commend you for being the bigger person here and not stooping to my level. You’re such a better person than me

If you be the bigger person enough then once you die every evil person in your life will bestow a “bigger person award” on your corpse that they’ll throw in a ditch

Hey I’m god right now you just died. I see you refrained from doing something bad to an evil person because you’d be “just like them”. Great job man even though that persons mind didn’t change and no one really benefitted and you kept suffering and that evil person kept hurting people Atleast you were the bigger person. That was the secret key man welcome to heaven

And I hate to say this but when it comes to the US military you really cant pull the "im gay/brown/a woman" card. A genocidal project is a genocidal project, one you as a grown adult knows. Do you think I have any sympathy for women in the military? Do you know how many civilians they've killed along with the rest of the yankpig soldiers? This is real life, stop with the pity party identity politics bullshit. If anything it's worse because you're a bootlicking scumbag.

Listen, I agree, but there are also people who join the military to avoid homelessness and financial ruin. To me at least that's the only nearly justifiable reason to join, but even then, if it was me I wouldn't

if your only choice is between joining the military and killing yourself, you ought to kill yourself. you don't deserve life more than those that you're helping to kill.

I agree. But I'm not going to judge someone for not being able to make that choice. It's a very different situation once we step out from behind a screen

i will judge them. they deserve it.

People who are vocally anti-police whilst being sympathetic to veterans are incapable of not implying that violence against foreigners is innately more justified than violence against their compatriots
