Written as a gift for @fftifft for @cyclingsecretsanta, this is my attempt to write about Primož and his many protégés - i really had a wonderful participating to this exchange and hope some of you will enjoy this too!
97 is me porto bonito by bad bunny and . this did not inspire anything in me directly but i have been thinking about every lonley place lately and the AU where leon does clue in on what rebecca and david are putting down. and connor is so normal about it.
Leon calls around dinnertime in Boston, just when Connor wakes from his pre-game nap. They chat idly for a while, both of them puttering around in the kitchen and living room. Leon isn’t playing tonight, and Connor still has time before he needs to make his way towards Rogers’ Place to face the Canucks. If you ignore all the ways everything has been different since the trade, which is something Connor tries and fails to do every day of his life, this is basically normal, the easy way Leon has always fit himself into the spaces in Connor’s life since way back when in rookie year.
Connor has just started digging into his pre-game meal of pasta and chicken and Leon has ribbed him for his aversion to condiments, all as usual, when Leon breaks off whatever he was just saying and looks at him intently. “You know, I figured out why David and Rebecca were acting so strangely,” Leon says.
“Hm?” Connor asks, his mouth half-full. It’s good that Leon has friends in Boston. Connor doesn’t feel any particular way about it, except glad for Leon, of course.
Conspiracy theory or what you wanna call it: but I think Visma and Skjelly were in talks before he extended with Lidl. Just saw an interview with him where he talks about how much he looks up to Jonas and wants to be like him - interviewer then jokes: even copy him in doing diperchanges and floor building? And he says: yes, I want a family too someday. Anyway just the way he has been openly critical of Lidl the past year and clearly weren't ready to go to Guangxi. And eventhough Patrick has been joking and critical of Skjelly he still ended up defending him towards Benji and even talking about why he would be an asset to a team. Just small things. But then he extended with Lidl, so it doesn't really matter, but I have a suspicion that if Simon had announced his retirement last year then Visma would have signed Skjelmose. Sorry this is just my own little theory.
hi anon!!! first of all i appreciate sharing your theory i love hearing people’s theories and speculating about cycling transfers…. this is so interesting and i could definitely see it. like, it was VERY notable to me that there were three separate incidents (the whole the team didn’t tell me about ayuso thing, the kerfuffle about being sent to guangxi, and then at media day saying he didn’t know ayuso was also doing the ardennes) which is pretty at odds with like lidl-trek’s reputation and carefully built image in terms of being a close-knit team environment etc (not to say that that doesn’t mean there can never be any friction but it was very surprising to me that this wasn’t smoothed over behind the scenes!). which speaks to the fact he was genuinely not happy with everything (or maybe he was just leveraging these statements to the press to get a better contract haha who knows). to be honest my guess would’ve been that he’d sign with uno-x at the end of this season (they really need the best danish/norwegian they can get. still possible with a transfer ofc). but yeah i think patrick otoh constantly talks about him crashing but i do think he rates him especially as a one-day racer (and tbf as patrick semi-recently revealed he thinks like at most 1.5 riders can climb so his assessment should be taken with a grain of salt lol)? and visma sure has a slot open for a GC rider now…. also i was unaware of the various ways he was emulating jonas help. they should tell him that doing carpentry is contractually forbidden at visma :( anyway idk if this saga is truly over… let’s see!!!
