THE NEW YEAR was formed in 1999 and has released four albums - "Newness Ends" (2001), "The End is Near" (2004), the self-titled album "The New Year" (2008), and "Snow" (2017).
Endlessly rewarding to listen to, Berman was always a little jaded beneath the witticisms under the umbrella of his work frontmanning Silver Jews and it ends up taking the forefront here rather than adding some personal flavor to his amazing sense of humor.
This switch in the major/minor ingredient really makes for a special album, with a touch of snark here and there that makes it clear that as much as he was going through, there was always a perfect comeback or a smart remark he had in mind. Cardian Matsu
