Mihi vindicta: ego retribuam, dicit Dominus.
about to say something possibly unfair and definitely cunty but i can smell from a fucking mile away when somebody was raised in a comfortable liberal family and has never had to face like actual conservatism from family and community members. it’s like trying to talk to a child who thinks they know everything and thinks that you’re stupid for not understanding their genius idea of how to fix every problem in the world. and you can’t just tell them they’re ignorant because they’re a Child you have to spoon-feed it to them like well it Would be nice if i could stay home all day! but i have to go to work so we can have money to buy toys and food and go to the movies :) and the child is like you HATE ME why don’t you just get money WITHOUT going to work >:(
but instead of trying to explain capitalism to a child you’re trying to explain to someone from portland that you cannot easily convince people who see themselves as your betters and believe it’s their responsibility to Teach You What’s Right that they are actually wrong about their most deeply held beliefs and have been wrong all their lives. and that it is actually very difficult and often harmful to cut your entire family out of your life forever. and that sometimes we love people who are wrong about things. and that being wrong about things does not make these people irredeemably evil and unworthy of human kindness. and the person from portland is just like ummm you obviously are just performative and if you Actually cared about what’s right you would voluntarily abandon your entire family and support system forever and leave them all to rot
