As someone with DID….dissociation is not a severe trauma response. lol. Dissociation is something that people do day to day and it is normal to an extent. That’s why there’s dissociation, and then a dissociative disorder. The most common form of dissociation is when you drive and the next thing you know you’ve missed your exit without realizing.
That’s normal. It’s not normal if the dissociation impedes on your daily life and makes things harder for you to do. That’s kinda the difference between dissociation normally and dissociation abnormally…
I get feeling upset when people misuse diagnostic words and therapy speak, believe me I am so tired of the “letting my intrusive thoughts win! 🤪” crowd…but we should also stop trying to paint words that describe normal stuff like this as something only severely disordered people can use.
Again, dissociation is a normal thing your brain does sometimes. It only becomes an issue if it greatly impedes on your daily life. “Zoning out” is a form of dissociation for fucks sake.
