I live by the motto, “if you can’t buy what you want, make it.” And this motto came to life recently in the form of a floral mosaic dining table for my back deck.
Our deck table had been showing its age already when the wind caught the umbrella and cracked it. I wanted to replace it with a mosaic table because I’d been enjoying that art form recently. But I couldn’t get one the size I wanted so I got creative.
I spent a few weeks looking for tile and figuring out a very loose design concept. I started by picking a limited set of tile shapes and a color palette.
Once the tiles arrived I had a piece of particle board cut to size for the base and I experimented with different motifs until I settled on a selection of floral shapes that gave me plenty of variety to fill space without locking me into one repeating pattern.
And then I was off! I basically doodled my way around the table, attaching tiles with Weld Bond (I went through 4 full bottles!) and rocking out to the K-Pop Demon Hunters soundtrack.
Once the florals were done it was time for the background…
Over 3,800 1cm glass tiles make up the not-design part of the design. It went pretty quickly though because I just had to fill the space, leaving room for grout.
Once I had the tile done, my husband assisted with disassembly and reassembly. We used the legs off the original table for this one (waste not).
One huge bucket of black grout later…
She is finished.
I enjoyed making it and just looking at it makes me so happy - I can’t wait for all the dinners we’ll have around this table 🌼❤️

Some of you think of Cops as kind of a symbolic figure representing “telling you what to do” & you’re Posting things like “acab includes fandom discourse” and I thuink the 80% white website needs to remember the reason why we hate cops is because they kill people
We hate cops because they’re a weapon for enforcing the state’s interests through violence. Like, they kill & imprison people. The antis don’t have a Quite Literal boot on your neck please god log off or talk to a Black person or something
To be SO fair like really generous there is something to be said for unlearning the habit of figuratively “policing” other people especially in the context of, like, not being a fucking snitch, “kill the cop in your head” etc etc, but can we not completely lose the plot re: what cops Are

“this is ilya, i will never listen to your voicemail” and shane takes that to heart!!
he thinks ilya doesn’t ever listen to his messages, so maybe he starts leaving one here and there. maybe they’re nothing really, just a note to say he tried to call. sometimes leaving off with “oh, this is shane. by the way” he calls when he knows ilya won’t be able to pick up; “hey, uh. i know you won’t get this, but i was thinking about you. i miss you. i know you’re just in ottawa but… sometimes it feels a lot further. i love you.” and sometimes he’ll be watching a game and god. he wants to talk to ilya about that play, so he’ll leave message about it. shane never really tells ilya that this is something he does.
ilya knows, of course. watches his voicemail fill up little by little. always makes sure there’s space for new ones. has ones that he listens to so often that knows them by heart. memorizes the way shane laughs because he thinks no one will hear it, the sound of his breath on the other line between words. he listens to every one of them.
Took a crack at this – thank you for letting me play with this amazing premise!
I’ll Talk (Like You’re Listening)
Summary:
Hi. This is Ilya. I will never listen to your voicemail.
The greeting wasn’t a joke or an exaggeration—it was the truth. Shane leaves messages anyway, confessions to a digital void that will never judge him, never push him away.
At least, that’s what he thinks.Excerpt:
Shane had first heard that message when Ilya disappeared from Boston’s lineup in Nashville. No explanation, just “undisclosed reasons” and a media blackout that meant someone was injured or got arrested. Shane had called from a hallway outside the dressing room, heart hammering, and gotten the voicemail. That flat recorded statement: I will never listen.
Shane had left a message anyway. “Hey, just—saw you didn’t travel with the team. Are you okay? Call me back.”
And… Ilya… had called back, eventually, saying he’d seen Shane call. His father was dead. He was in Moscow. No, he hadn’t listened to whatever boring message he’d left. The greeting wasn’t a joke or an exaggeration—it was the truth. Ilya saw missed calls and responded to those. The actual messages disappeared unheard into the ether.
I loved this comment on I’ll Talk (Like You’re Listening) so much that I couldn’t resist. Here’s ~400 words of crack.
Terabyte
Ilya held the phone away from his ear and looked at it incredulously before dragging it back. “What you mean, five hundred gigabytes is ’plenty’?”
“Sir, that’s actually quite a generous amount of storage for personal use—”
“Is not personal use. Is professional.”
“I see. What kind of professional files are we talking about? Video editing? Photography?”
Ilya’s thumb hovered over the screen where Shane’s last voicemail sat, timestamped 2:47 AM, duration 00:47. “Audio files.”
Hi friend that’s my comment!!! Thank you for the bonus story :)
maybe don't post every thought you have
suck me from behind or dont
i got a 100% on this bostonian-to-english quiz but i grew up near boston….. i’m curious what you guys get. there’s a couple things in here i didn’t even know are regionalisms + a couple things i hadn’t heard before but could parse pretty easily from context. tag/reply with what you got and if you’re familiar with the area or not!
#didn’t know these were regionalisms? i’ve never heard any of these phrases in my life (via @worldwarthree)
GENUINELY before today i thought fluffernutter and american chop suey were part of National American Culture ™. i was so puzzled by those questions that i googled both bc i was like “ohhh, this quiz maker thinks some american things aren’t as widespread as they are….. they’re assigning regional markers to things that aren’t regional…… every american will instantly recognize these….”
and then i discovered both of these things are, in fact, particular to the new england region.
& went. What.
This summer, I will have been married to a man from Massachusetts for 25 years. You learn things.
I…know a lot of people from Boston?
My kids did better on this than they did on the Boston one. For some reason.
yaaaaaas
I need to add this to a pile of evidence I can pull out for people when they say “USAmericans all have the same culture” cause what the hell.

FANDOM, THE TWIN CITIES NEED YOU
Alpha News, our local fascist outlet that “leaked” Jonathan Ross’s video of him murdering Renee Good, which also pushed George Floyd conspiracy theories, with an anchor married to loathsome fascist police union boss Bob Kroll (Liz Collin), has set up another doxx line, this time for ICE observers.
WE NEED THEM TO BE OVERWHELMED WITH USELESS INFORMATION.
Please help us! We are under occupation!
Their post about it:
This is something you can do 100% remotely that is VERY HELPFUL to stop observers from being intimidated out of doing this vital work. It is not an exaggeration to say spamming this line will save lives: the more observers we have, the fewer people ICE can abduct, abuse, murder, and send to concentration camps.
PLEASE REBLOG AND SHARE.
