Getting really annoyed with all the reviewers on youtube who think they’re defending the show by insisting that it is good in spite of the sex, and that it would be just as good or better if all the sex were censored.

You want to praise Ilya for how good he is at pulling Shane out of panic attacks, but you want to erase the reason he got so good at it in the first place. Ilya would never have learned how to talk Shane down from his freakout at the awkward family dinner in episode 6 if he hadn’t put so much attention and effort into gently coaxing Shane out of his sexual comfort zone with his fingers in Shane’s asshole in episode 1.

Sex is a form of self-expression. Sex is a form of interpersonal communication. Sex is part of the human experience. Sexual stories deserve to be told.

Shane and Ilya’s emotional connection was built on a sexual foundation. Their sexual history is inextricable from their romantic narrative. Their love story is beautiful because of the sex, not in spite of it.

Censorship is bad, actually.

Our youth and family nonprofit theatre is doing the musical Annie with a cast and crew of about 100, mostly children. Yesterday we had a two-show day with limited time for kids to rest and eat in between.

A parent offered to set up catering to be delivered for anyone who didn’t want to or couldn’t leave the site, and asked that anybody who was interested contribute a small amount to the cost. A few parents started asking if they could pay for other families who might not be able to contribute, and put in extra.

The whole cast was fed. There was food left over. Very few families left to get food or brought food from home because there was an abundance. Kids got seconds. Kids got seconds of dessert.

It’s been said a million times, but people balk at the idea of socialism and taxation and “paying for freeloaders” because we’re devoid of community and isolated. Nobody feared “paying for freeloaders” because those freeloaders aren’t faceless, they’re kids who go on playdates with your own children, or families who offered your child a ride when your car broke down. If we could think about other people as members of our community instead of faceless, we would be more generous and sharing almost instantly.

there isn’t a single case in history where the US actually saved a country from anything, what they did leave behind, consistently, were stolen resources, exploited land, and futures permanently scarred by military dictatorships.

what the US does in the middle east is widely known, what many people still don’t fully grasp is what they’ve done and continue to do in latin america.

they funded, trained, and supported military dictatorships across most of the region, and they infiltrated our cultures in a calculated, orchestrated way that still shapes us today.
