My biggest pet peeve is when someone misconstrues Eurylochus’s motives for going against Odysseus

no you fucking GOOBER. He was not trying to become king. He was not trying to become the new captain. He was trying to protect the crew from danger and unfortunately, in the pursuit of getting home, Odysseus became the danger.

Like would you not go against your psycho ass captain who just sacrificed your day ones??? You not gon be heated??? You’re gonna take it like a good boy?? Broseph if Eurylochus didn’t start the mutiny I guarantee it was gonna be someone else.

i’m sorry but it literally cannot be more obvious. This god damn community doesn’t absorb any information being delivered unless it is being whispered in their ear by Jorge or Odysseus🫩

I don’t get why people think Eurylochus did not absolutely love Odysseus. Thats literally his day one. HE HAS AN ENTIRE SONG EXPRESSING HOW MUCH HE CARED ABOUT ODY.

But he’s also been about THE CREW since day one. His first actual line is regarding the crew. In almost EVERY song he’s featured in he’s caring about the crew. Full speed ahead, Polyphemus, Remember them, Storm, Luck Runs Out, Puppeteer, Mutiny, Thunder Bringer. (Yes im aware he sings very little in some of these songs but still)

He is still CARING FOR THE CREW. The only reason he wanted to leave those men is because he thought they couldn’t be saved. AND FOR GOOD REASON?? HE DIDNT KNOW ABOUT HERMES AND HES LITERALLY JUST A GUY WTF IS HE GONNA DO😭😭😭

He was CARING for the crew they had left, because he knew if he ran up in there with Ody and Hermes never came— they woulda both gotten slammed and the crew would have no leaders.

Also— you ever noticed how Eurylochus almost never refers to himself?

with Odysseus its (almost) always “I/me/myself (will wood reference🥹)” But with Eurylochus it’s always “the crew/the men/our friends/we”

and the only time Eurylochus regarded himself is when he was apologizing profusely, something Odysseus never did… just saying…

And that time Eury’s gay ass said he and Odysseus should run away together but thas besides the point

Oh and that time he was literally fucking dying. Yknow when he was starving on that funny little island after not eating for lord knows how long.

Eurylochus NEVER makes it just about himself. It is never JUST about him. But he’s the selfish one because he opened the wind bag for reasons still unknown and killing a cow when he was starving? Alr lil bro.

If you actually think Eurylochus staged a mutiny against Odysseus for power then i’m sorry but you are being declared officially slow.

TBH i’d argue Eurylochus stayed truer to Polites’s philosophy than Odysseus.

This is what would have happened:

Eurylochus doesn't say anything about them going to the island and the Cyclops saga is basically the same

Eurylochus doesn't speak out when Odysseus is doing something that's probably hysterical

Odysseus comes back with a random bag, and Eurylochus doesn't say anything

They get to Ithaca AND POSEIDON IS THERE. BECAUSE ARE YOU GUYS STUPID?? THE STORM STOPPING DOESN'T MEAN POSEIDON WENT "damn well lmao I'll get him next time!!"

HE WAS LITERALLY CAMPING IN THE VENGENCE SAGA. WHY WOULDN'T HE DO THE SAME THING??

THEN POSEIDON SAYS "bitch Apologizes" and Odysseus DOESN'T. ALL HE SAYS WAS "W-We only wanted to escape!!"

AND THEN ITHACA IS FLOODED

AT MOST ODYSSEUS COULD OPEN THE BAG TO GET AWAY WHEN THE WHOLE KINGDOM AND MOST OF HIS CREW IS GONE BUT HE'D STILL PROBABLY END UP KILLING HIMSELF BECAUSE HE HAS NO ONE TO RETURN TO
