i love that nihuang did one of the single meanest things ever to mei changsu in the show (took him to lin manor) and then spent the rest of the show ready to throw hands with anyone who even looked at him funny. she went from sad to gleefully protecting her sickly bf in like five hot seconds. she was SO EXCITED to swoop in with her army to rescue him at the spring hunt and was ready to deck a prince in broad daylight for being mean to him. she showed up to the almost-rebellion meeting in full battle armor. xia jiang is lucky she was out of town when he arrested mcs because she would have shown up with all 100k of her troops and a wall of cannons (yes i know there weren't cannons yet i don't care she would have invented them if she needed to) and flattened the place. she would have tossed mcs over her horse and then dragged xia jiang through the streets behind it. rip to mcs's self-destructive plans, she doesn't have time for that shit. 'oh but the emperor would have had her killed for treason!' wrong. she is now the empress. good luck bitches

“This is a tapestry I made myself! I just finished it!”

“…. this is…. big.”

“Eighty feet long, ten high, in forty panels! It was originally going to be sixty feet, but then the Thomas Malory Arthuriana got big and I had to put more stuff in.”

“… Malory published in the fifteenth century.”

“Do you have any idea how long it takes one person to embroider eight thousand square feet of tapestry?”

“You’ve had a lot of free time in the last eight hundred years, haven’t you?”

“Not once I took up embroidery as a hobby, no!”

And before I get all the reblogs saying "just move to Linux" some of us can't! So here is a script to make this pile of dung just a little less smelly.

The Complaint - poem by Odysseus Elytis

No fancy translation, it goes pretty much like that:

Here in the middle of the way
it's time for me to say this.
Different are the things I love -
I first set off for elsewhere, elsewher
e.

Be it truth or a lie,
I say this and I confess;
as if I were not myself but someone else,
I navigated my way through lif
e.

No matter how much one takes care,
no matter how much one pursues it,
it will always, always be late.
There is no second lif
e.

This poem has been set to music too, as is frequent in Greece. It´s most famously performed by Eleftheria Arvanitaki but I liked this cover from Veronika Davaki and link this one.

Okay but on a more serious note, I can’t get over the symbolism of the central cross through the new knives out movie. Under Monsignor Wicks, it’s missing, leaving only its shadow as a reminder of what’s supposed to be there. All of his sermons are meant to radicalize his supporters further and build up his own power and his own ego, not Christ, not the mission of the church. It’s meant to be a permanent monument of his hatred and disgust for his mother. The most common reminder of Christ’s teachings on love, service, and self-sacrifice were literally physically absent. When Jud takes over, the crucifix is rebuilt and placed back up front and center as a testament to the fact that his mission and sermons are focused on his faith, grace, and being of service to his community, not the power that he could wield. Such good visual/environmental storytelling my god.
