I’ve been slowly working on illustrating my own Tarot deck about black cats.

I have a long way to go, but I’m nearly done with the major arcana.

Here are some of my favorites:

I set myself a design challenge (as I often do). I wanted to limit the color palette and the brush styles to create a very consistent look.

And since each card focuses on black cats, it forces me to think deeply about symbolism and design to make sure the meaning of each card is clear and each design is unique.

But there’s still a lot of variety coming through. It’s not all class, or all silliness - just like cats

I have a forearm tattoo of the cats in this one ☝️

I’m so happy with how both of these two managed to feel dark, but adorable at the same time.

And then there’s this one absolute diva:

Most of these used my own feline friends for reference.

There are more but I don’t know yet how many I want to share online. If I can actually complete the entire deck I would love to have it made. But I have a ways to go, so for now I continue to chip away, one card at a time.

Thank you for this ask, anon! I have several examples for each.

Mike

1. Green Bay Packers Fleece - It looks like a bathmat and it smells like one too, but it's so iconic. It's so Midwest, it makes me wanna eat tater tot hotdish, and he looks so comfy and cuddly in it.

2. Quarantine Flannel - So rugged, so manly, so lumberjackcore. My one wish is for Mike to regrow his beard and don this baby once more.

3. Brewminati Hoodie - The thing about me is I love a good ol' classic black hoodie. This is my favorite of Mike's black hoodies. (Confession: I found this online with the intent to buy it but it was sold out.)

Jay

1. Orange Matchy-Matchy - A new entry, but an instant classic. The flannel is amazing (I unironically want it) and matches the orange design on the t-shirt perfectly.

2. Halloween Tops - I'm cheating a little, but ALLLL of Jay's Halloween-themed tops (pictured are ones I picked at random). They're cute, they're festive, they're kinda dorky... just like the man who wears them!

3. Black Denim Jacket + Beanie - My favorite Jay look ever! He looks like a stoner boyfriend in the most complimentary way. He looks like a man who knows his way around a video store. He looks like he works really hard in bed. 10/10 would rest my hand on his knee while we sit around a bonfire.

Thanks again for this ask, it was fun to throw this together. I have even more favorite outfits (using the term loosely as these are mostly just tops; what do you want from me, they only ever wear jeans!) so maybe I'll make a part two sometime.
